  • @dani I know what you mean.I especially love the"coming round round the old volcano"part and I cant get enough of the moonwalk type dance step.

  • Cant take my eyes off patty! Shes great!

  • The sisters are so awesome in this video.such energy!

  • Seriously sounds like they're saying "cat poop" at the beginning

  • @mtotten2582 OMG IT DOES! lol!

  • @mtotten2582 They are saying "kapu" - Which is Hawaiian for "forbidden" or "taboo"

  • Hawaii boogie woogie, that's a thumbs up.

  • were there ever any greater lyrics than..."This isn't for a guy like Tosconini or any other 'icky malahini...? Superhartline

  • @SuperHartline By the way, the word"icky" in those days meant a person who didn't like swing music, like Toscanini, who was a classical music conductor. It didn't have the meaning it does now, to describe something that's distasteful.

"Here is a real Hawaiian treat / With a boogie-woogie beat!"

  • This is from "In The Navy", starring Abbott & Costello. In the plot, they and Dick Powell are all in the Navy and are stationed in Hawaii - thus this scene.

The film was released in the summer of 1941. It was shown, however, at one of downtown Honolulu's movie theaters on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1941, just 4 days before the Pearl Harbor attack. And after that happened, Hawaii wasn't seen as romantic or fun for awhile for most Americans.

  • I was born in 1948, but I still have memories of the Andrews Sisters. The memories are few, though. I wish I could have grown-up during the "Big Bands".....the music was sooooooooooooo much better than it is today!!!

  • The were National treasures and they did a lot for the armed services morale at that time. They Rocked!

  • Who would have thought Abba could be outdone in the "power pop" category by the supposedly boring Andrews Sisters!

  • Every female singer these days should be forced to watch this.

  • @pittsky You said it!

  • its a pitty that in germany you could not watch all videos from the andrew sisters because they are blocked.

  • Thank you for uploading! Great stuff!

  • i like t!

  • I love them I love them so much I love the bongos on they clothes!

  • Glorious era...Nothing will ever be like it was back in those days!

  • I'm telling you....drums on a skirt someone could make a fortune in ladies apparel I'd wear them to work....I'll be in a meeting ...boom boom...I'm going to lunch ...boom boom...OMG is 5 O'Clock ever gonna get here boom boom...love the clip thanks

  • Ok hier encore je n'avaient jamais entendue parler des soeurs Andrews et ce soir je suis fan, totalement conquise !! Patty a trop un bon style wow quel move !

  • 8 to the bar means that there are 8 beats to each bar of music and 8 to the bar was what Boogie Woogie was...Rob

  • this is one of my favorits songs

  • I think this is from the Abbott & Costello movie In the Navy....

  • ill like it verry much its make me dreaming

  • Can somebody tell me about "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar?" Just how popular was that song? It seems to show up quoted in a whole lot of other songs.

  • the song itself was just one of their many top 10 hits but its rhythm and title ("eight to the bar") defines their style and that's why it's in a few of their songs.

i think it was their first major boogie woogie hit but i may be wrong.

  • @the1musiclad: If I may clarify, "Hula Ba Luau" was recorded by the girls for Decca but never released in any form, to this day. Their first few of many boogie hits were "Rhumboogie," "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar" & "Scrub Me Mama with a Boogie Beat" (all in 1940). Their classic "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" came in 1941. All charted on Billboard's Top-10, but "Rhumboogie" highest position was #11. (John Sforza, "Swing It! The Andrews Sisters Story," U Press of KY).

  • @marcyhead - I don't think it was clear from just my message which song I was referring to. I was replying to this comment:

"Can somebody tell me about "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar?" Just how popular was that song? It seems to show up quoted in a whole lot of other songs."

I was referring to Beat Me Daddy, which I think was their first top 10 boogie hit. (Your summary seems to confirm this)

  • Geesh i never heard this one, and thats rare for me!

    than k you..

    THANK YOU

  • makes me happy :)

  • I LOVE this clip above all things! (I've gotta get me a skirt with DRUMS attached to it!)

  • The Andrews Sisters were unreal, and Patty was amazing. I love their 1937-1947 period the best.

  • they are singing a Hawaiian war chant, I believe this was the summer of 1941 that is before the a attack

  • I think they r speekin hawaaian

  • Anyoen know if this is after or before Pearl Harbor's Air Raid? I am guessing before.

  • Patricia Marie (Patty) was a natural born clown and with her tap dancing knowledge, was perfect for the lead singer, there was never any petty jealousies over Patty being the main lead, that was a decision made by all three unanimously, for all of their musical career Maxene insisted on a 6 hour daily practice and it paid off

  • @cavaradossij wow it seems you know more about patty than i do lol.

  • Maxene was the first to sing in public at the age of 4 she went to a Greco American social evening with her father and sang by herself, two years later patty was crowned as the Tap Dancing Queen of minneapolis, Laverne had a fine contralto voice and she formed the trio when she was 16, Maxene having the Highest pitch was given, 2nd soprano, she would sing sometiomes 2 notes above the melody and other times two notes below, giving the audio impression that there were 4 singers

  • When I first started listnening to them, I always thought, "Wait, there's 4 voices..." I never knew how they got that sound and just chalked it up to the brilliantly crafted harmonies. Now I know...

  • most of their movies are still available on the net, reasonably priced VHS format or DVD's

  • 1941 "In the Navy" with Abbot and Costello, the girls even have some speaking parts in this one, and young Dick Powel sings in it too

  • What year is this from and what movie is this from?

  • These Girls Have Rhythm in their Souls
