I think the important thing to remember here is this: does this story introduce me and all who encounter it to Mystery? Does it lead me into the realm of Mysterium Tremendum Et Fascinans? Does it encourage me to see, as deeply as possible, Divine Light in all?
That is simply untrue. There is explicit direction in the Gospel accounts to take the accounts literally.
Jesus is the source of Divine Light for the redeemed. It makes a tremendous difference whether He exists or not. If the Son of God did not come down to save His Beloved, then we are still in the dark, doomed with no hope to joy, love, and the fullest relationship with God and mankind. It is out of Jesus' Love for us First that He becomes our Joy and Desire.
Beautiful... Though, I think the vibrato on the violin was too fast for the lyrical quality of the piece but it also gives it a more...contemporary sound. All in all, it remains on of the BEST of Bach's works...Just makes you feel like Christmas all over xD

as a person who is not religious at all, i find myself offended by some of the comments posted by those who believe that they must make their (sometimes ugly) thoughts on christianity known. can you not just appreciate beautiful music? leave religion out of it- not all people hold the same veiwpoints.

I am not offended, if you are referring to my comment. I am simply pointing out that the line that it is a "monument to our faith" is irrational. It would be like saying that the Pyramids are a "monument to faith in the Sun God Ra". It is a beautiful piece of music. But it proves NOTHING about the existence of God or Jesus.

If you believe in God who created this world with all his amazing aspects than you'll also experience his majesty in a lot of things that surround us. But it all starts with having faith.

First of all the fact that matter always existed is nowhere denied in the Bible, and I also believe to some extent in evolution. You should read the book by Francis s. Collins, called: the language of God. But there is about just that much proof for the existence of earth by a big bang, as there is for Intelligent design ore moreover the existence of God as proposed by the Bible. You can't provide a anwser to the main questions in live saying matter always existed.

Faith is believing things without proof or evidence, right? Normally, people who believe incredible things without anything to back them up are called "stupid" or "delusional". The clever thing about religion is that they have made believing things for which there is no proof from a defect into a supposed virtue. I can't proof the existence of God by science, thank God for that, otherwise it would be a limited God. A comparison:how would you describe the phenomenon of a breeze if you didn't saw ore heard the external effects that occur. You can't see God in a direct way, but I truely believe that you can see the existence of God all around us. And by following His will, I realised that the Christian religion provides an anwser to all aspects of our live.

A breeze can be recorded, detected, measured may ways. Your God is a figment of your imagination. You have every right to believe in fantasies if it makes you feel good, though. Some people use astrology, or alcohol. Two thousand years ago people believed in Osiris, Jupiter, Zeus, etc., and it made them feel good. But of course, you don't believe in Osiris or Jupiter, do you? Neither do I. you see, we are BOTH atheists where most gods are concerned. You just believe in one more than I do.

And there's a significant difference between the Christian faith and all other faiths. I'm curious, what provides you from an anwser to the main questions in live, such as: Why are we here? I'm sure that Mr. Wilson (if he will excuse my presumption) did not mean that Christian history is blameless. But deviations from the beauty he alludes to have, while ugly indeed, been relatively short lived. They have been, because Christendom (now the West) has deeply understood the wrongs it has done. beautiful planet within a short span of 200 yrs. I've never been the tree-hugging type but I've learned some of the recently, and I'm scared for us all. Even in America, there're wars over water (of all things to run out of!) and its worse in other places (not by conservation, but exploitation).
So yeah, keep trying to prove that Christianity is more beautiful than Islam because thats going to be SO important when our home dies.
