I drive a modified 550 CAT also.. I can't tell you exactly what modified pertains to because my dad handed it down to me.. But it's got 8" miters on it and trainhorns on the back.. That thing can get loud if it wants to.. Jake Break is my favorite sound of them all though..
i thought it was the feather river canyon west of quincy, i used to run through there quite a bit when i was running lowboy for harco outta reno like the way the airhorns are angles LOL
You would be right. That is the Feather River Canyon. Yeah, when I put all those lights accross the top of the cab, they were interfering with the air horn mounts, and I didn't want to just take the air horns off, so I just angled them out like that. ha ha
Are you still logging? If so, how much does that pay where you are? Are they hiring? Owner operator I assume? Nice sound, too! I will only drive a truck with a cat 3406 or c15 (non acert)
esté idiotá está destruindo o planetá olhá ás descargas a imensa nuvem pretá que sai só pode ser americano que não pensam no planetá no efeito estufa eles deveriam morrer primeiros idiotas
old truckers never die, they get a new peterbilt! rock on. i drive a 2006 379 with a 550 kitty cat! it's a pretty cool roll-off, but the 18 speed is a bit too much.cool vid, thanks for sharing!
I have a juiced up 425 mechanical CAT and would like that deep rumble sound. but love those 8" bull haulers look. Is it true that the 6" stacks sound better? I want to go with 8's but want that loud sounding jake and accelerating sound.
I guess it all depends on what you think sounds good. My experience has been that the 6 inch pipes do make a much louder almost echoing rap rap rap sounding jake brake, while the 8 inchers create a really low rumble as well as some fairly nice loud jake noise. I love low rumbling sound, so the 8's are my thing all the way. And they just look a lot better to me than the 6's do. More proportional to me. Other people think they look too big, and not proportional, but I disagree:-)
I think i'll also go with the 8" Bullhaulers. Are the Dynaflex kits good? i don't want the truck extremely loud but i do want to have that deep rumble and the turbo whistle that i already hear with the stock exhause to be even louder.
Hey there, sorry I didn't respond sooner. Yes the Dynaflex kits are pretty good, but the main problem I had with them, is the stainless steel bolts they supply with the clamps are crap. You can only tighten them up so far before the nut just freezes solid on the bolt and there is nothing you can do to tighten it OR loosen it from that point. I had to cut all mine off and replace them with regular bolts because I couldn't get the clamps tight enough to keep the stacks from coming apart.
But other than that, yes the Dynaflex kits are really good. I got mine from 4StateTrucks . com. They were the only place that I could find that had the 8 inch bull haulers. Other places had the 7 inch bull haulers and 8 inch straight and miter cut, but I had to have the 8 inch bull haulers:-) I did actually have a small muffler before the stacks in these videos. I think it helped to keep the load noise down so you could hear the turbo whistle better. While still being loud enough for me.
Good to hear someone else treat a transmission with some respect! Tired of listening to those gear jammers!! lol. Thats a nice truck, I got a buffer...we can work on those wheels and tanks. lol. Drive Safe Man..
Well thank you very much. Yeah, it doesn't really get you any where to destroy the transmission by jamming it into gear all the time. You have to feel for it. You are welcome to polish my aluminum anytime you'd like:-) I actually polished it all up very nice after making this video. I hadn't had the truck very long, and hadn't gotten around to that yet. And now I went and sold this truck. Been kicking myself in the butt ever since.
we straight piped our 3406E yesterday and its not very loud. With 5" stacks it sounds pretty good, i was surprised with the jakes, they were pretty quiet. It would sound better with 6" stacks though.
how did u make it smoke like that? is there some other mods that u did that your not telling us? because a 75 hp gain shouldent make it smoke like that. Especially on a eletronic motor.
There are various places that make this harness that plugs inline with the boost sensor that tricks the computer into sending more fuel to the injectors. Normally that translates into more power and smoke, but with this truck it just meant a ton of smoke. It was cool for a while, but took it off and gave it to a friend later.
very nice sounding Cat! My dad drives a 1999 kenworth T800 for hauling chips and it has a 3406E Cat in it. It only has 5 inch stacks though. with only the 5 inch staks on its pretty quiet, inside of the truck is pretty soundproof. i got some clips of the truck, i might post it later.
how about an in cab view, starting out going through the gears, and jake brake. Having the window open will really enhance the sound. That'd be cool as hell.
In my other videos I have some video from in the cab. Don't think I start out going through the gears in the cab though. And a couple of my other ones have the jake brake sound better.
one question where and how do I get started my mom was going to be truck driver a few months ago (i lived alone with my mom back then my age on my profile isnt my real age) for star but she had to back out because we couldn't find a place near the school to live all my life I wanted to be truck driver but never knew where to start could you help eith this at all
Well thank you:-) I've never driven a mack so I couldn't say, other than I deffinently prefer the looks of the peterbilt over a mack. But we all have different tastes. That's what maketh life interesting.
Nice paint, sweet shining. lol... I'm not into trucks so bare me with my stupid question. How do you take the it down, I mean the 8wheels sitting on your truck. I dont know what yuo call it, the end part of a Log-Trailer
Hey there. THanks! That is actually a question I get quite often from people. When you get to the log landing to get loaded, the loader lifts the log dolly off and sets it down on the ground, then when you are leaving the mill after getting unloaded there is a trailer loader that you use to put it back up. If you go to my other videos and watch the Hauling Logs one it shows the whole process.
I was never into trucks but for some reason every time I see one I want to hear it, the engine, the turbo constantly squeeling. I think it came from being a kid, especially hearing the exhaust brakes, they would come into town to slow down and we would run along the fence at school to race them and get them to honk.
Hey there, sorry I didn't reply sooner. Yep she is my truck. I've owned this one for a year and a half now and have almost contantly been doing stuff to improve it. Was just a very plain teal green Peterbilt 378 logging truck when I got it.
That's a good idea. I haven't really gotten much video of it being loaded and stuff. I think I will do that real soon. Kind of cool, I actually just today got a first place Blue Ribbon for my truck in our annual country parade, and the other night got a second place ribbon at a local show and shine. I've polished it up a LOT more since this video.
Ha ha! If I was only driving the thing for fun now and then I would take the muffler off, but after riding in the thing 12-14 hours a day 5 days a week it really starts to wear on a persons hearing, and I'd like to be able to hear my grand kids when they talk to me someday:-)
This one used at 10 years old together with the log dolly cost $49,000. They sure aint cheap. Log hauling can be a really good job, but can really suck sometimes too, but that's true with most things:-)
It's the 3406E. I just was realizing this morning that I failed to put that in the video title. I do have other videos of it driving and stuff, don't know why this one has 8,700 views and the others only a few hundred.
serial number, 3406E usually denots a 6ts or a 5ek, but that dash looks much newer then that.. more like 2004+ which would put it in bxs or mxs range :)
Yeah, I like the long nose pete's better too, but I liked the idea of the shorter sloped nose for better maneuverability and visibility while hauling logs since I have to turn around in some pretty dang tight spots all the time.
very true, long nose are more for highway use than to be going on the narrow logging trails
my dad has a Freightliner Classic XL Midrise and he pulls super-B curtain sides from calgary to edmonton everyday hauling dry wall (hes an owner operator)
I did put a muffler underneath. Didn't want to go deaf even if it would sound cool for a while. But even without the muffler for some reason that motor just tends to be fairly quiet.
Electrical tape assisted in holding the camera up on the tip of the stake:-) And I'm not sure exactly why they call the stacks bull haulers. They also call them "Bull Horns" I guess due to the ever so slight resemblance to bulls horns:-)
Yeah I've got a Hornblasters four horn train horn on there that in some ways sounds a little better to me than the real train horns, but I would really like to have a k5la or something. Just don't feel like spending $1500 on it:-)
Yeah it's been driving me nuts. Been a work in progress. Finally got a chance to polish one of my wheels and my battery box the other day. The previous owner let the aluminum go so long that it is major work now:-( oh well, all in due time.
Ha ha. Looks kind of funny doesn't it. Almost like Shrek's ears or something. I really wanted to put more lights accross the top of my cab, but couldn't unless I did something with my air horns, but didn't want to get rid of them, and it would have been too hard to move the rear of them out too to keep them straight so that's what I ended up with. It is different, but doesn't bother me too bad.

Whats up with the horns?
