I thought the objective for the creation and maintenance of naval forces during non-war periods was to fight pirates, Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't "To the shores of Tripoli" in the U.S. marine corp hymn? Didn't that refer to one of the first peace time conflicts of the United States Navy, that being the confrontation of the Barbary coast pirates of North Africa ( what's now today called Tunisia & Libya)? I find it hard to believe world Navies CAN'T deal with them. It's all priority
All ships should be able to carry guns and kill right when fired on, and if they are stupid enough to attack a navy warship, they should be blown up. Without a second thought.
pirates can never be stop unless all vessel are fully armed and will trained their crew to kill intruder at time of crisis. international governing bodies can only do so much. hiring security contractors or sea marshall is not enough & there are millions of ships around the world. stingy shipowners will make matters worst and leave everything on marine insurance if theres losses.
You don't see it on nightly news because they don't operate in North American waters (well I guess I'm speculating a bit there but it seems unlikely for pirates to be active where it is most likely to get caught), they operate mostly around the countries where regulations on their activities is limited and there is less threat to being caught. You don't hear about the kind of stuff that happens in unclaimed waters or water so far away it doesn't have much impact on your daily life.
Not sanctioned by the U.N.? All the more reason to deploy these pirate hunters.
Pirates, terrorists and the like need to be dealt with in a language they understand. When the price becomes too great, and the victims respond with greater ruthlessness, this business will stop.
Stopping Pirates, is very hard and most attacks go unreported as it's say because of losing business.... the best guessament is over 600 attacks ayear..
But people don't realize there is still pirates in USA, they are know as Salvagers and vessels towing companies...
They have been pirating vessel for years.... Until Now Captain du Bois
i beleive we should report all of the attacks and get more us sailors(like me) to go hunt them down and kill them exacution style.....we need to stop putting up with them and stop being scarred!!!!!!
I worked at a boat club in south florida next to tiger woods yacht privacy. One of the crew members told me they were being attacked by pirates, and they sank them(wouldn't tell me with what). Didn't report it though
@bloodkid7
All images are of actual pirates from the files of PMC's or verified news sources.

The fact is that they are a well-armed and experienced foe with automatic weapons and rpgs. Going in without air support would be too messy.

There's no pirates in the U.S. because they're scared of the U.S. Coast Guard, the worlds primier maritime service!

Unsanctioned by the UN? Then I'm all for it!! Remember, you can't spell unethical, unjust, or unmedicated without the UN.

Greater Somalia,
Thanks for your comment. While that is a good guess...
No country's navy is capable of dealing with this epidemic at this time.

The Pirates are a result of a large scale problem...
Poverty, War...and Greed are the main causes...
But there are those that are trying to help..
UN, Red Cross, Red Crescent, and others such as Black Water...
Are you a pirate fan? Or wanna add to the team to combat them?
