Many cats get very upset when you try to put them in water. Doesn't bathing them dry their skin. I thought that cats keep themselves clean and you don't need to bath them. Is this true.

@MdnightWnd It's all about the origin of the cat. Most cats whose ancestors lived in Central or East Asia or Africa love water. In fact, egyptian Sphinx loves getting in the water. Other not so much but they don't fight neither.

As for using a hair dryer on a cat - whether it's a short or longhaired cat always far better to dry it. Some cats are afraid of dryers but after awhile they realize it doesn't hurt them. My RagaMuffin, Mocha, used to be terrified of it and now will purr the entire time. You also keep your hand infront of the dryer with a comb combing it as you dry. If your hand feels to hot, you're staying too long in one area and the cat will feel hot as well. And no, it doesn't "burn their insides" LOL!

I have 9 cats, Cats cleaning themselves is a misconception, yes they do lick themselves and groom themselves but by no means do they clean the skin where fleas leave their feces and they get regular dirt in general. They need a bath to clean the skin and the hair down to the root. I'm not saying take a old cat that had never had a bath and dunk it, you have to start when they are kittens and then they don't mind getting a bath at all for life. My Persian takes a shower with me.

@jp7464 Why does your cat have flea dirt on it in the first place? Keep it on Advantage or Revolution and indoors. Unless a cat is a show cat you don't really to bathe them. With breeds like the Exotic - who shed a TON and also can get tend to have greasy bathing every month or so is often necessary. But your average domestic? Not needed at all.

I read a comment on another video of someone giving their cat a bath that it's not ok to blow-dry the cat because it heats up their insides and hurts them. Is that true? The difference between you and the other owner is that she actually took the hair dryer all over the cat and you had it lying on the floor with Pancake in front of it.

@noodlemonster89 Sounds completely bogus to me, I hear plenty of professional cat-groomers blow dry cats. I can imagine that it wouldn't be recommended for the average cat cause it could be scary for them and the owner might not be experienced enough to know how to do it without hurting the cat or traumatizing them.

I'm pretty sure these guys know what they're doing... all their kitties look so beautiful and well-groomed.

@noodlemonster89 You understand that on most hair dryers there's a "cool" setting, right? It blows cool air at whatever setting they have it at, and that sounds pretty low setting. Even if it wasn't on cool, the low setting is far enough down from the sound of it, and the cat is far enough away where it wouldn't burn the cat at all. If it was blasting heat the cat wouldn't have been near as calm as it was, and the owner brushing more than likely would have been flinching away from the heat.
