  • Yikes ... Goes with many sports ...

  • I hate hearing all the negative hate comments on Sterling Marlin. I never cared for him as a driver myself. But he raced with Dale Earnhardt for 20 plus years. Dale was one of his closed friends. No one took it harder than Sterling when Dale died. Sterling isnt to blame. They went into turn 3 literally banging off each other. If it was Mark Martin in Dale's position, he probably would have died too. Accidents happen. It's auto racing people.

  • Sterling would probably have won the championship that year. And for all the people wishing hateful shit on Marilin because of Dale - FUCK OFF. Earnhart himself would tell you to fuck off if he was still alive. Shrader was every bit to blame as Marlin, which was ZERO. If you're gonna blame Sterling you might as well blame Kenny too because it was HIS car that forced Dale's into the wall at the angle it did. But if you had any brains you'd know that.

  • at 0:17 you can hear the car hitting the wall

  • I have the DVD this recap came on

  • @krakbaby13 you deserve to die.

  • @krakbaby13 you're the one that deserves to die, wishing dead is against God

  • too bad for marlin, seemed like his career went downhill after that crash

  • Well that wasn't the most jackass comment I've ever read, or anything.

  • @jamespic your a dumbass

  • @jamespic marlin didnt mean to kill dale so get off it

  • @jamespic If Earnhardt wore a proper helmet and safety gear he would be alive. Dont blame Marlin for holding his line.

  • This was his year until this happened. I hated it for Sterling, he still is my favorite driver, since Dale died. I had hope after such a good start he could pull off the championship, then this happened.

  • poor sterling :(

  • Sadly this was the beginning of the end for Sterlings career

  • He could've won the championship that year. too bad.

  • Sterling was the best at that race team

  • yeah definately, goldenjimbo. the best thing that ever happened in NASCAR was dale's death. as i recall, everyone was happy when he died. the best ever. wow. now do you hope that jeff gordon dies so he has a legacy or something?

  • Johnson and Martin were both eliminated at Talladega. Before the green flew, martin locked up the steering under caution and destroyed both all their fenders

  • It was the other way around.

    Johnson hit Martin.

  • no martin hit johnson. watch the replays.

  • but it sparked mcmurrys career

  • chip ganassi racing also crumbled after this

  • @TheeeeeJ

yeah they struggled for the next few years after that that's for sure. They are on the rebound though right now. They got a real good program together. My brother is currently working for them he sets up the race cars before they get sent out to the race track. If they keep getting better watch out b/c not only will they continue to win races but they will start competing for championships like they use to.

  • just be happy sterling is alive none of this dale crap. Sure i'm a fan of dale don't get me wronng but that wasn't sterlings fault it was a fluke. I'm sure dale wants us to move on and remember what he did not what he could of done. Ginassi made a good choice about putting Mcmurray in the car he won two races later.

  • The most unbelievable thing about it, after Sterling could never compete for the title again and he would have won the title in 02, he never complained, once. Also it is a little creepy most fans blame Sterling, and Sterling missed the rest of the season after this race. It is pretty creepy, Im not saying its Marlins fault, Im just saying its creepy.

  • So Tony was the champ thats not right sterling was closing for sure to the championship! it pisses me off but im ok with Tony winning but sterling deserves it

  • its payback from earnhardt

  • some how i agree with you

  • you people just wont let it go will you. Nobody gave Kerry Earnhardt a hard time for killing Blaise Alexander.

  • LOL they werent talking about Kerry Earnhardt they are talking about Dale Sr. LOL

  • No shit? And im talking about when Kerry Earnhardt put Blaise Alexander head on into the wall in an ARCA race. WTF is your point?

  • no farrelhidayat said payback from earnhardt cause Sterling Marlin accidently hit Dale Sr. and then u said about Blaise Alexander and Kerry Earnhardt which is nothing about the point its like u dont know Dale Sr. LOL

  • Your right I absolutley no idea who Dale SR #3 is.

  • and yet u know all about fatal crashes

  • Ive seen them all bud.

  • well Dale Sr. the number 3 and the car is black and had a fatal crash at Daytona with Ken Schrader u know that for sure right!

  • Ya, I remeber how Kenny acted like a ghost while they interviewed him after the wreck. I remember how terrified DW was after the crash also, like he knew Dale had died. Been watching NASCAR since 1988. Seen alot of good driver come and go.

  • defintly was the same guy after this :\ . he was good and he had a shot to that year to win the championship :(

  • While I've never broken a vertebrae, I know the pain from an accident when I was 7. My neck hurts frequently now.

  • I feel bad for Marlin. I myself have two fractured vertibrates and it's no fun.

  • Does anyone know if this was a Show or DVD or what becuz I see alot of these with the Same Narrator over the whole 2002 year and it was one of the Most Interesting years ever with Marlin leading, Johnson being a Rookie and On top the Points but Newman winning the ROTY, and McMurray Filling in for Marlin and Winning 2 weeks later in the 40.

  • yea there a bunch dvds like this, check ebay

  • i remember that if it hadnt been because of that wreck marlin could have won his first championchip

  • he finished way ahead in the points of a lot of guys that finished all of the races even though he only finished less than they did. Had he not been hurt he would have won the championship easily.

  • Well, I hate that he was injured, but I don't like him. When I saw it in 2002, I went on like nothing happened.

  • this truly was a mega heartbreaker...like JunBug i too call marline the 02 champ sucks that tony won it it pisses me off to see stewart win anything especially when it that win belonged to someone else

  • I felt bad for him, that was his year and he was never the same after that, I still call Marlin the 02' Champ

  • does anyone know what show this is called?

  • omg....earnhardt got himself killed by trying to block the entire field, sterling had about as much to do with it as George W. Bush

  • i half agree with u. yes, marlin had as much to do with it as g.w.bush. but Earnhardt wasnt trying to block the whole field. remember, after the first caution when everyone pitted, he nailed shrader in the pits. his air dam was thoroughly destroyed! if it wasnt destroyed, he would have won! get it right, dumb ass!!

  • If Earnhardt just stayed in the top lane like most drivers normally would have, disaster would have been averted and history would have changed. Woulda coulda shoulda, but then again Earnhardt's death was the best thing to ever happen to NASCAR; his legacy has created a monster.

  • ikr, how can you say dales death is the best that ever happened to nascar, his death resulted in safety devices, thats about the only good thing, dale was THE sport when he was racing, he owned it. He wasn't afraid to push ppl around. Nascar listened to him

  • @Carpenter1125

And that isn't a all good thing, that he pushed guys around, and when he talked, NASCAR listened.

  • I think it was the Richmond crash, not this one, that he was injured in...

  • he got hurt in the one

  • Like Mark Martin, he was one of the best drivers in NASCAR history to have never won the championship. I believe Mark Martin was close to winning the 2002 championship, too.

  • I remember this crash too; when it happened in real time I was exhilarated because I strongly dislike Sterling Marlin.

  • Sterling was holding his line while Earnhardt was going back and forth. Even Junior admitted it wasn't Marlin's fault so get over it.

  • No. Sterling didn't come within 3 inches of Earnhardt's bumper. Dale came down on Sterling and got himself wrecked.

  • It's creppy thought.

  • I hate people who hate drivers for no reason.. and if you like it when a driver gets hurt.. your not a real fan.. and those of you who are still discussing Sr and Marlin at the 2001 Tona 500 ... get over it.. Sr was loose and tagged Marlin you gotta wake up.

  • Sr wood of done the same thing to Sterling that Sterling did to him.....so it was a 2-way street

  • sterling didn't do anything... he was holding the bottom.. Rusty Wallace said he felt a little guilty because he may have got him aero loose, but it was a racin deal

  • O ya i know that...its just that SOME ppl make it sound like Marlin was at fault

  • i too will never forget this crash had it never happened Stewart would only have one championship, the 05 one. ce the 2002 winston cup would have belonged to sterling he had it in the bag

  • Oh man I feel so bad, I would like to see him win again

  • Notice the car that blocked his line, he drives the car now.

  • no.... that car was the #14 Conceco Pontiac owned by larry foyt. Marlin drives the #14 Waste management/panasonic Chevy owned by bobby Ginn

  • o and no car blocked his line.. he lost it and over corrected

  • Hey Golden Jimbo I agree with you If he hadnt of gotten injured he woulda won the championchip and his career wouldnt of gone down the crapper, such a shame Sterling is a nice guy

  • I'll never forget this crash.
