I think in the last episode when Saizo jumped from one building to the other the stick fighter couldn't follow.

I guess that's why he wasn't in this episode.

I think ninja moon is like the adventures of saizo and the gang while in their own surroundings: the academy, the battle between rivals in their own village etc where ninja village is like outside their environmen, you know like dragonball was all about when goku was a kid and Dragonball z is about him as an adult. so in a way I think its more of a continuation than a spin off
