People seem to talk down on people who do not speak English 100% (these same people only know one language). She sounded pretty good to me in any case I understood everything she said.

She is speaking English in Chinese. Let's face it, in Canadian schools, French is taught using the English alphabet. Come on, a big part of learning another language is to get the phonetics right. I bet this lady was taught or clung to the phonetics of her mother tongue. Big mistake. Reflects poorly on service. The airline should provide training and choose their spokespeople with care.
I don't speak Chinese, I do speak French and a little Turkish, but I do admire people from other countries who can speak almost perfect English considering it is not there first language!! People have already mentioned Americans, but as someone who lives in England, I can tell you the English are generally no better at speaking other languages either!! The first part of the annoucement may be in Chinese speaking. But we can clearly hear that the second one is in English. The accent is not so bad..the difficulty is coming of the bad video sound quality, that's it!
I don't think anyone is out here is trying to condemn the FA ... rather, we are all very concerned for her NOT UP TO STANDARD English because it can be a hazard during emergency evacuation. We're NOT asking for all FAs to speak the Queen's English but all FAs must attempt to speak a form of English that is intelligible to everyone. I would say we can roughly understand 80% of what she's trying to convey but as long as there is the 20% gap, it should NOT be tolerated.
It's obvious that she knows English well, there were no hesitations in her speech. With that said, she needs to practice her pronounciation, that was the only thing I had trouble with. BUT I could understand like 75% of the words, so I think she did well!
Chinese isn't a requirement for my job... It is unfortunate people are making fun of the woman, I agree. However, job requirements are in place for a reason.

She is speaking English in Chinese. Let's face it, in Canadian schools, French is taught using the English alphabet. Come on, a big part of learning another language is to get the phonetics right. I bet this lady was taught or clung to the phonetics of her mother tongue. Big mistake. Reflects poorly on service. The airline should provide training and choose their spokespeople with care.

I don't speak Chinese, I do speak French and a little Turkish, but I do admire people from other countries who can speak almost perfect English considering it is not there first language!! People have already mentioned Americans, but as someone who lives in England, I can tell you the English are generally no better at speaking other languages either!! However....I did struggle to understand what she was saying there, at one point I couldn't tell if it was Chinese or English!! :-S

The first part of the annoucement may be in Chinese speaking. But we can clearly hear that the second one is in English. The accent is not so bad..the difficulty is coming of the bad video sound quality, that's it!

I don't think anyone is out here is trying to condemn the FA ... rather, we are all very concerned for her NOT UP TO STANDARD English because it can be a hazard during emergency evacuation. We're NOT asking for all FAs to speak the Queen's English but all FAs must attempt to speak a form of English that is intelligible to everyone. I would say we can roughly understand 80% of what she's trying to convey but as long as there is the 20% gap, it should NOT be tolerated.

It's obvious that she knows English well, there were no hesitations in her speech. With that said, she needs to practice her pronounciation, that was the only thing I had trouble with. BUT I could understand like 75% of the words, so I think she did well!
