If you remember in the freeway scene, Barricade is seen leading some of the Decepticons through the freeway. But during the battle between Bonecrusher and Optimus Prime, Barricade wasn't seen in any of the later scenes. So he must have gotten away. This could've given him the chance of being a coward and changing his car form.
