  • thanks... good to know. how much load could you put the chloe under though?

  • @thebraveengineer Not a lot, depending on the grade. One or adults plus the engineer and a lightweight car or three is the limit of comfortable, unless the track is really flat. this is a very small boiler for 7.5' gauge. If you are going to build one, I suggest using a 6" boiler, or building the Fitchburg northern variant which has a 6" boiler designed in. Gene Allen has the plans for the Fitch as well.

  • @thebraveengineer At the Joshua Tree & Southern I pulled two kids on a riding car, a small gondola and a small log car full of logs, plus my riding tender which is about 500 lbs with engineer, up a 4 1/2% grade at one point. But that was pushing it. You don't want to prematurely wear out the rods and the boiler doing that. The Chloe boiler has no margin to use up, the fire has to directly replenish what is being taken out in those circumstances.

  • how many inch diameter is that boiler? and how long did it take you to build that?

    Nico

  • @thebraveengineer 5" diameter, 3 years part time.

  • Great vid but how much did it you.

  • Interesting riding car.

  • Love the sound at 55 sec

  • I'm amazed by all the rail and trestle work that's gone into this. (The train's pretty dang awesome, too.)

  • @batsbatsbats I now have a video out about this railroad, look for the 'flintridge and portola valley' trailer, can be ordered from my website.

  • Looks and sounds great! Beautiful railroad as well!

  • Awesome engine!!! Love the stack talk!

  • Very nice Mike! I love it

  • The locomotive looks really nice. Good job and I think shes a keeper.

  • Great loco Mike, is she a propane burner?

  • @spacemarine88 Yup uses the BBQ fuel. It's hidden in the caboose shell.

  • @CaptainHarlock999 Ah very good, she looks great and sounds like the timing is spot on.

Am an curious though what valve gear setup does it have?

  • @spacemarine88 Stephenson valve gear. Sorry it took so long to reply.

  • @CaptainHarlock999 Ah righto, thanks for the reply.

I'm sure she will give you many hours of enjoyment.

  • What a nice Engine Mike. I have just started to work on mine i have a Chole also that was modified into a Forney... Your engine came out beautiful. I am some what jealous of u now. But thats ok lol Nice engine cant wait to see it at Bittercreek. You should come down to OCME to run it there sometime? Well enjoy ur engine hope u will post other videos up of ur engine? See you later!

  • Gonna try to make it out to OCME this fall. I'll be at the NG meet at Bitter Creek with the engine. I saw a Chloe - Forney (Chlorney!) last year at Bitter Creek. I think it's from SoCal live steamers?

  • @CaptainHarlock999 ya thats Tom Downings. He And I will be up there this year with that loco are Allen American and some other people and possible equipment. Hope you get all the buggs worked out and get it running to an acceptable condition. Those damn steamers!

  • The squeaking at the end is from the oil reservoir running out sooner than we expected.
