well first and for most your little oogle crew may not know me but im always around i dont stop in van now headed east and would love to run into you so where are you home bumming it and you may not know me but you will
@travellingbum1 oogle, original! I don't home bum it son..and Im in South America right now then India...doubt you'd be be able to get off your ass long enough to make it out this way.
@travellingbum1 I ride the belleville sub, if you know anything about freight lines well cross paths..chances are you still live at home with mommy and the closest youve gotten to a train is getting drunk of a 40 trackside.
@travellingbum1 sure man looking forward too it, although I highly doubt Ill ever see you anywhere. Where do you normally ride, maybe Ill come looking for you...although Im thinking youve never even set foot on a freight
have you hopped at all before?...halifax is pretty easy considering the tracks only go west...although if you dont know much about hopping freights you wont get too far !
Yup, I've hopped before. And I know what kind of train to catch. I'm just wondering about areas in Halifax. Is Bedford for instance any good? Or would you go straight into the yard on the northern tip of the peninsula?
Vids=snowball effect. Nobody knows it all & no reason to pretend to. I interviewed extensively(Chicago& Milwaukee). In my fractured knowledge you're all right.SOME workers haven't seen "hobos" since 70's but all have traumatic experiences hitting people. Sarah George's film "Catching Out", despite exposing us, ethnographically captured key values in the genealogy of riding. You take away the challenge & diminish the mystery to make it "available" and you destroy a living myth.We need solidarity.
I'm not sure how you consider yourself to be "experienced" or what M.A means to us who actually ride. Train hopping is not political, and I hate to burst your bubble but most of us are far from anarchists. the majority of kids who hide under that title are skids who don't stand for anything. It is a common knowledge that there are less riders now than ever before, and the numbers are in steady decline. I know this for fact, so I'm not sure what books your reading or who you think you know.
Yes good vid but why does human ego resist any suggestion that riders (new/old, whatever) create problems both hopping and posting vids/info online. Some can't admit that they're not the only ones in the world; consideration for others is a virtue. I'm an M.A. student of anarchism, social movements, and freight train hopping, and it's sad; for years I see that, increasingly, people are not LISTENING to the exp. riders/activists as if we can't teach one another something. PLEASE stop posting.
I encourage people to hop and I can assure you that there will only be more vids to come. I fully intend to promote train hopping and all its components to the fullest (in many ways), if not to bleed out so called anarchists, then to at least to allow others to experience life as they see fit. Capitalism built the railroads and everything else you may enjoy...if you want to set an example get of the computer and go live in the bush. DEAL with you EGO first
How old are you and why can't you have an educated discussion. You can't generalize across the board about who riders are or aren't. Yes, 200,000 people were riding during the depression, of course there aren't as many now. I never said there were. Why would you attack my experience when I admit that my knowledge is extremely partial (as all of ours is), say I have an Ego prob & try to pretend that there aren't extremely educated people & anarchists, with or without college degrees , who ride?
Education is based on experience, if your experience is "extremely partial" then you have nothing to base an opinion on. You said that these vid's will snow ball ( which is actually the point) so you ARE assuming that there will be more and more riders. I'm just curious now who you think you are saving train hopping for, if not for the Capitalist masses? Do you know what the CCG is?
"I assure you..." My ego?You don't even care what I'm saying as you're someone who does what they feel like whether it effects people or not. "So-called anarchists?" Why are you so hostile?I've ridden to protests with anarchists who care deeply about trains and making the world more livable. Live in the bush? I'm not a primitivist, do you know anything about anarchism's nuances? "As they see fit?" That IS anarchism! Beyond your anger you seriously can't even consider advertising is detrimental?
The bulls aren't a personal concern to me. it's just a symptom of a problem. The problem is idiots rideing trains, more so then they ever have. this will only be tolerated for so long by the rail companies, and the government. people have been rideing for decades because they were relativly few in numbers and had a degree of respect for what they were doing. This is changeing.
I expect in 20-30 years the security will be so tight it will take quite a bit more effort to ride trains.
I don't begrudge anyone their right to catch out once in a while without being a full fledged tramp. I do ask that they display a little caution, though.
I said the only CN bull for the east coast is based in moncton. I know this for a fact, verified through my own experience, and I know someone who was the first person ever pulled off by the newly hired halifax bulls. you are misinformed, they are boosting security. I don't find it coincidental the boosting of CN and CP security correlates with the increase of dumb kids rideing trains over the last 2-3 years.
Dude, news flash! people have been hopping trains out of there for decades...including me. I have never had a problem getting in or out of that yard or any for that matter..bulls change nothing...if anything they add the the joy..and hey if they keep the careless ones out, all the more power to em!
right, because I dont agree with you and your facts are way off....look save your finger strength and go write a cheque to world vision or something. Im not going to stop posting vids....period!
there have been bulls there and many other yards for years...that yard is in the open, right by a busy road, but I have never had a problem getting in or out of there
It does heat it out, maybe not much, it's not much worse then pictures on myspace that people have, but really, if you ever make a video again, avoid any shots of the kind of car your rideing, people don't need to know that shit. Their is to many idiots rideing, it is a big concern to the CN police and workers, because they don't want to find mangled bodies from accidents and have to talk to parents of victims.
I'm sure no one would be offended. But say this was your way of life, you would protect it. If you know riders, then you know there is a code..and posting catch out spots..where you sit, and so much more is just kind of a crappy thing. Guns aren't scary, and i've rode and rode and never..in any country been attacked.
In reference again-It does heat shit out.If you would really like to know how I am moree than happy to message you about it.
(there was, the reply button is too close to remove)
I have talked with the rail police as well as rail employees. There main concern is theifs who break into containers, vandals ext. Most of the time they let riders on as longh as there not causing any trouble..I know this from experience. As well I ran into the RCMP up here this summer and in there words they told me" they have not seen someone on a train since the 70's.
well your misinformed. c.p. last june in winnipeg at headquarters launched a huge project hiring bike bulls, even dogs because so many people were riding. They then began imposing a law where they have the choice to arrest you, andwere encouraged to leave peoples items on the train.
Also you don't have to be defensive, im not attakcing you. what i said is ride if you ride, but i strongly disagree with recording it for the world to see. Its good rcmp doesnt think people ride.
Canadian Pacific headquarters is in Calgary. They have always had the ability to arrest trespassers, and can hand out fines of up too $10'000 and up to a year in jail. The rail companies actually have there own police force. I was on tyhe front page of the newspaper a few weeks ago here in Ottawa and the cops called me. we had a good chat and I am well awair of the risks.
Oh by the way...hopping freights is my way of life. I don't need to be a tramp to catch out and just because I can afford to pay the fine does not mean I cant ride them.
My friend told me what was going on with your videos. I hate to tell you but billybob does know what he is talking about. There is no need to post your rides on youtube. I am sure no one cares about you or what you do, but the c.p. bull told me last year of the huge expansions in security because of all the dumb people riding in Canada. There's too many of you. And if you do really love riding, then just love it. ...(next comment)
These vids do not post info, besides look at how many people actually watch. If I post some chick dancing I would get a 1000 hits a day. These clips are for people who are into freight hopping. There is every reason to post them. To share with others who love it,and hopefully some people will see this and finaly try what they have been dreaming about there whole life. I have no problems promoting it to the few who will actually enjoy it,and I have taken people out, one even flew from england!
Fuck thats rad dude I'd show you my Calgary to Revelstoke steach that I have on video but I can't pull it of my damn facebook profile anymore ... I'm gearing up for an ontario trek up the rails soon.. Keep ridding and Ride hard dudes!
I'm thinking about hopping this summer too, when I'm done school. Gets boring sitting in a ditch for four days waiting for a good ride... but when you caught one, there's nothing like it!
Thats the biggest load of shit I have ever heard..kind a goes along with the whole all train hoppers are stupid and going to die under a train. Who exactly am I over exposing this too?, how many people do you think see this that aren't already looking for it? Nobody hops trains man!..Ive been doing it for years and not one of my friends has even tried it....no matter how much I have pushed it, and I had a film play in theaters and on t.v.... Besides I want people to fucking hop.....
listen. it exposes the scene to people like me that live their lives by trains. believe it or not their is a whole subculture of vargants, hobo's, gypsy's...whatever you want to call it who breath traveling and are raised on freight,. cept they aint college kids tapin it and puttin it on youtube.
What difference does it make, most people dont ride freights for many reasons. its not like kids who look up public safely are coming across these...train hopping has been around for as long as trains, its been no secret that people hop them. Its been in movies, newspapers, books ext over the years....I highly doubt that I will be the one with the magical touch that gets the world hoppy trains. If that does happen, coca cola better fucking call me up and give me ten mill a year to sell coke.
List, I'm quite aware of the culture that goes with hopping trains, Ive been doing it for over a decade, and I'm not even close to being a collage kid. I love when people like you who know fuck all about me seem to think that for some reason I am in danger on the rails. I've been around the world many times, had guns in my face, been attacked by people in far scarier countries than Canada and the USA.

hello,
nice video -- interesting convo.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good places to hop in Halifax. I'm trying to get to BC and I'm unfamiliar with Halifax railways lines.
Help would be appreciated.
