  • I 've got a little MP3/4 expandable with SD CARD with video, and now, I am at the beginning og a progress in learning.

Know, learning languages is really fun.

  • appreciate advice from both of you.

Yuh would be surprise how many people are quite content to archive or delete and stay.

As for LingQ versus other ways of studying, this is individual. To me the effort in saving words is rewarded by the functions, flash cards, ability to search content by "known words", highlighting of saved words in texts etc.

Would more people stay if they could keep 10 items active on Work Desk? Won't know unless we try.

  • So for members like me, who are using it to get through the beginning stages, it's simply not worth paying for the service which can be easily subsituted by a functional organizer and some disciplines.(at least in my case)My point is, if it is about traffic, then you should consider giving the free account users a good reason to continue using it.

  • Steve, I think in order to make the free account more attractive to learners, you have to change the number of assignments to at least 10. 5 is too little and in fact it is very discouraging for free account user who want to save a reasonable number of words for review. Also, personally I do not want to pay for the service for now simply because I'm at the beginning stage so will focus on input. And the other reason is because a lot of content can be found all over the internet for free!

  • I disagree. It's the fact that the free account has such limitations that in turn makes the paid ones that much more attractive. I see the aim as making users perhaps eventually think "5 is too few, I need more" and then invest in the paid options. Providing a free services with "at least 10 assignments" would be a potential risk to the business, as it might ultimately attract less people to buy when they already have enough in the first place without paying.

  • I would have agreed with you if Steve did not mention in the video that he hopes more people will use the system. Afterall, you got to have a good reason to give out your services for free in a for-profit business perspective. However, this is not the case here. As the title of the video "Freenomics" and Steve's further elaborations suggest, they wish to increase the number of people using the LingQ.

  • So, I believe making the free account a little more attractive does not hurt but will likely improve the traffic and thereby achieving the main goal here. Once free users become regular users, they probably will be thinking about investing in the system. And again, if it's about more traffic, I believe this can encourage people to use it regularly. Perhaps, in the end, these users will help in contributing to the contents as well.

  • can you turn the volume louder next time? It's hard to hear. thanks.
