Amazing lecture series. It can be so very confusing to sort through all the many seemingly conflicting notions to identify the thread running through them all. Also, where and how did this idea that we are fundamentally flawed and bad arise? Why are we constantly compelled to transcend? She addresses this and a world of other connections. Brilliant, illuminating, and fascinating!
I hate how the students get up and leave before she's finished. I guess it's all wasted on them. Perhaps I would have been like that when I was young. I'd give anything to take a class like this now. Fascinating. I would love to sit and discuss these topics with her....
@tweaker1bms Yes, you're right - that could be true. I think it's more a cultural difference actually. At Uni in Australia (or at high school), we never just got and left when time was up (or the bell rang). Whoever was speaking got to wrap up quickly and we left in a polite fashion. Looking back it all felt a bit more respectful of the idea that you were there to learn. Not that that means anything about the quality of the teaching ;)
@jude4021 Well that's pretty amazing for us americans in terms of high school. Never be that respectful unless it's a private or some sort of charter school or something... is unfortunate...
Instead of the Malleus Maleficarum, in the current era we have the DSM-V, the Diagnostic and Statistical Maunal of Mental Disorders, 4th ed. (Soon to be a 5th ed.!)
For some reason, there doesn't seem to be a category for those who are so delusional that they think their torment of others is actually beneficial to them. (Remember kids, when they hook the electrodes up to your genitals, it's torture; when they hook the electrodes up to your head, it's therapy!)

@jude4021 Yeah, I think young people are squeezed through education too soon, they should spend some time out in the world working for a while imo.

@jude4021 To plays devil's advocate, in their defense she is going overtime and they may have back-to-back classes.

^^^Yup - you've actually managed to hit on what is probably the least interesting thing about this lecture.
