many people have forgotten the old soul music back from the 60s and 70s, but hip hop was one of the first genres to sample these records. i would never have started listening to lionel richie or the stylistics had i not heard the samples used in my favorite hip hop songs. i don't view sampling as "stealing", because they don't take the entire song and claim it as theirs, they chop parts from it and loop it to make it their own. to me these hip hop artists opened my eyes to a past generation..
