Great idea, an old bus or even a truck trailer set up makes a good shelter or even just a nice storage ares.In this case, maybe a deck put over it would do to conceal it better as well as keep it cooler.

This is actually a really good idea if you get a surplus bus for just a few hundred bucks. What might make it an even better idea is to bury it just a few feet deeper so that it's entirely covered, but before you cover it, spray the exterior with insulation foam. This will both protect the metal body of the bus from corrosion, and keep the interior a stable temperature.

in my opinion i would buy a bunch of dirt and cover it, make a garden on top or something. you should not advertise that its there because if you need to use it.... lol all your stuff will be disappearing unless its guarded by granny 24/7 and that will help keep the top safer, the more dirt the better, why in the world would you not put it deeper into the ground :(

Why is it when environutters do something recycling tires, lumber, etc. its called "repurposing" but when some everyday working-class guy uses a bit of ingenuity to protect his family its considered "redneck"? An old school bus makes a darn good camper and I suspect a pretty fair tornado shelter / food cellar. Beats having it sitting in a junkyard somewhere just rusting away.
