As an American, I feel like countries like N. Korea should be left alone to fizzle themselves out, the same way as the former U.S.S.R. and China did. They should be able to learn from their own mistakes like everyone else without interference. If they choose to create a situation where they attack another nation then of course action should and will be taken but, as for meddling in their affairs because of a disagreement with their way of life, there is no sound foundation to stand on.
@liberatedanimal It was pure political pressure from the United States and Europe that gave hope to the peoples at the frontier of the USSR, like Eastern European satellite states and people in the Baltics and the Balkans. Without that political and economical pressure, things could have ended quite differently because if the west hadn't cared enough, the Soviets could have done anything they wanted in these places to hold their power.

If you knew about the Korean war, you would know that 120,000 Chinese soldiers were slaughtered while trying to occupy a mountain, simply by running blindly at the machine guns stationed on the top. The machine gun only have 200 crewmen. 120,000/200=600 dead Chinese for every 1 American.

There is no way to make a decision about that. The French journalist even asks the North Korean, "well, where are the Americans now?" Since the Korean implies that the Americans are in control.

I didn't hear him ask anything about N. Korea's famine and slave labor camps. Or their government's theft of aid sent to their own people. Or their nuclear bomb program. Or their kidnapping of random foreigners.
Those questions would likely be met with complete hostility up to his ejection from the tour. He did ask about North Korea's illegal launchng of its satellite. Those American questions are just so integral to the North Korean way of thinking, it seems obvious to ask them, if only to paint a picture of just how warped the North Korean point-of-view is.

Korea was separated in two by USSR and USA, not USA alone. Also, the only thing US did wrong was not winning the Korean war back in early 50's, and not wiping Kim Il Sung and his Soviet and Chinese cronies off the Korean peninsula. Their failure caused suffering of the Northeners for the next 60 (almost) years, and there's no end in sight.

But I don't see why it's total folly to keep a small portion of our armed forces there, supporting our ally, who is still (as you of course know) technically at war. Yes, North Korea is (in relative terms) hilariously impotent, but they wouldn't have to conquer the South to cause a catastrophe. The Kims may not start a war, but some benighted, patriotic regiment might spark it. Who knows? Maybe we actually hold the ROK back when its dander is up.

Korea could defend itself from the North. But we have a treaty with the South with them asking us to stay and continue to remain a deterent from the North.

Korea was separated in two by USSR and USA, not USA alone. Also, the only thing US did wrong was not winning the Korean war back in early 50's, and not wiping Kim Il Sung and his Soviet and Chinese cronies off the Korean peninsula. Their failure caused suffering of the Northeners for the next 60 (almost) years, and there's no end in sight.

North Korea is nothing but a sad relic of the failed system of Stalinist Communism. The only way the North Koreans want to "reunite" the two Koreas is under a single, Communism regime based in Pyongyang. They tried (and failed) to do it by force. That's why they hate the Americans. They are blocking their ultimate goal.
