  • 'muhrica...

  • real hot rod never die..

  • trailer queen hot rods = yes

    rat rods = :l

hot rods that are actually driven = hell yes

and whats better than buy one...building one

  • i don't think the last part of the video is right, you can buy a hotrod? YOU CAN'T BUY A HOTROD! Hotrods are build, not purchased. People that buy their hotrod are not the real hotrod ckind of people.

  • i take on the opinion that if YOU built the car the way YOU want it and YOU as the owner/operator/maintainer like the vehicle then good! Getting hung up on class labels has been then death of the hot rodding spirit. i have a 1950 plymouth "rat rod". i enjoy it, if you dont, too bad. see you at the finish line.

  • Great video, Love street rods.

  • hoodlum chic...WTF?

  • Forty Grand ? I'm pretty sure It's cheaper than that especially if you built it yourself .

  • @azyaninvasion no it is not.the original 32's are very expensive.you can pay 100.000 $ for a restored one because they become so rare.or you decide to buy a reproduction kit made of steel or fiberglass.but anyways till it shines like his one does you will easily be at a price of 40.000 POUNDS.

  • ZZ Top made the 34' Ford popular? Ahh was YEARS before that Album.. lol

  • I like em. Individuality does it for me every time.

  • Hotrodding today is who can spend the most money, just like circle track racing. The backyard racer no longer can compete with the money mongers that pay someone else to build their car so they can win.

I quit racing 25 years ago because we could not compete with the money. Same with "Rat Rodding". A car built with a ton of money tossed at it isn't a rat rod. It's a wannabe street rod.

I switched to Harley Davidson and see it's that way now. Who can spend the most money.

  • I used to own the rusty car that is in this video, just for the record, it is you yanks that think you know it all, that car is a hot rod not a rat rod, a rat rod is a piece of crap that should not be on the road. Also the term rat rod was coigned over here, not over there, quite a time before you lot caught on to the idea.

  • "Hoodlum Sheek" what kind of homo termanology is that. How about 'Bad Ass'?

  • i wouldn't call a purpose build "rat rod" a real rat rod, its just the rat look, you can make any car have a rat look but a real rat is made from the scraps people dig up from a tip

  • I saw this guy on Top Gear once

  • Rats rods is not a trend, trends are for shithead losers that thinks that dressing in the most populare clothes, driving in the most populare cars and using the most populare words actuely make you someone, but thats wrong, rat rods is life, not a fucking trend, if you like rat rods you will never stop liking them, it doesnt matter how many or how few people that likes and drives them, one time a hot/rat rod fan, ALWAYS a hot/rat rod fan!!

  • ZZ top's Eliminator was a 33. Why do the brits think they know everything?

  • nice car. love it.

  • rat rids are not a new trend and 32 ford arent the best dont listen to the british bastard lol

  • zz top how about the beach boys and american graffiti did that way before zz top but i will always have respect from the biggest little blues band from teaxes

  • nice ride when i grow up ill buy the coolest one, black coulor yellow flames

  • get the damn chevy motors out of the fords

  • this remindes me of mafia 2 lol

  • ''For a car like this, i ques your looking 40 up'' Yeah if you want to built it from fiberglas, original Henry Ford steel body Deuce, will cost 80-200.000$.

  • @31Roadsterford right now on ebay steel 32 5 window for $36k

  • @31Roadsterford He was in England, so he was talking about the British Pound. Depending how crappy the US $ is doing, he was saying $65,000. and up

  • "The car that ZZ top made famous"

Ummm I think they were pretty well known before ZZ Top :L

  • @Nekroguitar

the car made zz top famous.not zz top made tha car famous. understand?! ;P

  • @GIwillo I think what he means is that particular 33-34 coupe that ZZ top used it in their video was so cool that after the video it became famous...just like the Graffiti Coupe in American Graffiti is famous...

  • Comment removed

  • @Nekroguitar they've always been well known in the U.S.......but probably not in Britain.

  • @Nekroguitar they made it famous, it didn't make them famous...

  • I want to build a Model A Coupe someday, but the interior looks tiny. It looks like it would be really cramped. Does anybody know for a fact if this assumption is true?

  • @renewer yup they are narrow,,,unless you get one modified to be wider...mine i cut it in half with a sawsall then rewelded it back together 6 " wider than origional.

  • @johncartelli So you cut it in half length wise then you ran some 6" plate in between?Does it look...crappy? Not trying to be rude, just curious!

  • @renewer... its not finished ...but look at my video the walk around one...it shows the vehicle pretty good...

  • the term "Rat rod"...is just stupid. "Ratrods" are just a trend. They didnt call these things ratrods back when they filled highschool parking lots, Hell they didnt call um that 5 years ago. There hotrods, some are top-dollar, some are traditional.

"the rat rod was made up by the "rebel" high school kids that wanted fast cars but only could spend there money on junk cars to make them fast, and there you got a rat rod"- Sorry bro. you just defined HOTRODDING... NEWB.

  • Comment removed

  • Half the shtuff he says is wrong lol

  • I thought a rat rod was the same as a rat bike. Something not modified, but kept working by instead of buying a new part, improvise another with whatever is lying around.

  • OK, I really hope that guy at :23 owns that car, or else he souldn't be touching it!!!

    (pet peave)

and that isnt a rat rod(my opinion), I just dont think its shinny

  • mongo5888, i'm sorry, but i thought your pm was a kind of argument, and in a way an aggressive reply, as far as me being a dick, i think you should think before you speak, but hey distance and tragedy, perfect recipe for humour, you idiot.

  • hey i want a hot rod for my first car but i dont know if i should use especially when in crumy wheather....

  • Or buy some english tin and make your own Rod

  • how much did he say the blue hot rod costs ??

and how the well can u buy one ?

  • I'm not usually the patriotic type, but I have to admit, seeing that there are enthusiasts of American cars in England does make me kind of proud.

  • I like fifth gear more than Jeremy Clarkson's show much better. They don't trash talk the Americans, and aren't just overly annoying. Jeremy Clarkson needs to realize who rules this world and shhhhhhhhh.

  • mongo 5888, I thought that was a reply, nice to see you have my car on film as one of your favourites, my car is a real American 32 thanks, but hey fat boy distance and tragedy are a perfect recipe for humour.

  • Yup, you can buy one there alright...but it's still not a real American deuce.

  • @mongo5888 hey dude, how can u buy one hot rod like that ?

  • @ChrisJackass1995 Depends on what exactly you want. What kind of ride you thinking about?

  • @mongo5888 just like the blue one at 1:37 or whatever. He sais that u can buy one and u dont need to go to America. So there should be a site with a variety to choose from. If u just knew that site u would help me very much :D

  • @ChrisJackass1995 I will pm you since it wont let me put a link in here.

  • I think hotrods are ugly because of all that shiny chrome and polishing. But ratrods are cool!

  • WHOA! Look at the bionocular specs on the whistle chambers!, can hear her roar from langstosh, africa!! i can only find mine in the 8.0mm and with the twist tie valves on the exterior motive ranger but i had luck at sears with my rear and upper neck singuloids, but now thinking about replacing the solar plexes on it too, oh well, stellar rod mate! cheers!

  • ahhhhh, nothing better than seeing these true classics cruising the american roads that they dominated! oh wait a minute..... :(...

  • rat rods date back to the 40s, but they werent built to be like that until relatively recently

  • american cars best ever!!

  • I say i would own a 48" F-1. Do a lot of overhauling and choping to it. Oh Yeah! It would look pretty owesome too.

  • greasers,punks and hot rods.....

  • The Vicky body style is the best.

  • I own the 'rusty 32' in this video, I'm guessing that most of you that have posted on this are yanks, you suprise me with your pathetic attitudes regarding hot rods, something that you alegedly started, as far us getting into hot rods, we make a far better job of it than you yanks do, we aim to build cars that drive, not show cars or death traps like mine was when it was bought over here.

  • @fentonmag Cute. Hope it makes you feel good to TRY making fun of Americans. Quit biting off of everything that we do over here, that would be a good start. Your just jealous because all the rodders over there are whipped compared to us in the Great States...when WE build something, we build it how we WANT it. And I wouldn't be saying this if you hadn't decided to be such a dick by the way so go whine to someone else because you aren't getting any reply out of me. I don't have time to argue.

  • when did the english get into hot rods? by the way do you guys have macdonalds over there?

  • Since they came out over there.

My uncle has a '32 ford sedan, english drive.

    And yes, there is McDonalds.

  • yeah I think the rust look is new, low budget simple hot rods from back in the day had spray (paint) paint jobs at minimum. According to my 50's hot rod magazines anyway

  • Usual mis-informed TV fodder...i dred to arsk ow much it cost

  • whoever Rods a Vintage Car - 1949 and back should be shot and the creator of fifth gear should be shot and the creator of this clip for this show should be shot aswell as the presenter.

  • ok.............. why?

  • Because...

Vintage cars should be preserved for future generations.

Take this,You Buying a Vintage car and puttin a V8 in it is the same as me Buyin the Mona Lisa and putting a mustache on it.

Fifth gear is a knock of top gear, like Athoutz said.

The creator of this clip is encouraging Hot rodding.

  • because hotrodding is the father of all sports cars. hot rodding is cool and its traditonal and its not like we are taking perfectly restore cars and cutting them up were taking the rusted out bodies that have been forgotten and turned them into something to make our hot rodding forefathers proud.

  • If you Look on the HAMB/Jolapy Journal you can see that there are many people who bought Fully original and unmolested Cars and parted the chassis out, etc.I don't mind the people who make hot/rat rods out of bodies hauled out of fields as long as it was something a restorer wouldn't look twice at.

  • im confused are you saying hot rodders arent good enough to have nice cars just because there tastes dont fit yours. i dont like country but im not going to take away there guitars.

  • knock-off of top gear.

  • to be honest hotrodding is to modify any car for performance.... if you grab a 50's hotrodder that remained in coma for 50 years without getting older I'm sure he would end up as a tuner, since they were using the beste technology they had at hande those days, not steam engines.

  • wow love...!!!!

  • wow wish I had one of those

  • Rat Rods rule,I hate cars built from a box of bits from a shop,Kinda grown up lego..Yuck...Rust will always be with us...!

  • porquerias

  • Fucking love those sxey, cool, powerful cars!

  • you aint kidding..I could use the ss checks for gas..(see my video) its slow..but so far i got a rollin chassis and the engine is running. the major work now is getting the body roadworthy..ps I'll be 60 in 4 months..yikes!!

  • too fancy for my tastes, well most of 'em in the video.

  • actually a rat rod is not what these guys make it sound, those are "fake" rat rods, a real rat rod is a car built with nothing but junk yard parts, the rat rod was made up by the "rebel" high school kids that wanted fast cars but only could spend there money on junk cars to make them fast, and there you got a rat rod

  • @Raceboy65 I can assure you the first car they show as soon as the music changes (32 Model B with red wheels) is as close as you're going to get to a modern rat rod. Was bought from a scrap dealer in the states, moved over here and everything on it was begged borrowed and stolen from various scrap places or old builds, and if he couldn't find the part, he made it himself. Built by a man named Paul Hobby. Since this shoot it's now running without the wings and with a heavy chop.

  • Anyone that makes that kind of a statement just shows their lack of intelligence..although dirtball your entitled to your opinion...r33cer people with no mechanical ability (which includes common sense) should not build a hotrod..those that do can and should....for f-sake

  • unless if you're a mechanic

  • @r33cer that's the fun of it

  • my hot rod will be a rat rod when it is finished...mostly because my budget says so...i have $20 bucks a week to put towards my car..I have spent $2300 so far and the rolling chassis is just about donewith engine tranny all in.body work will start soon...it is a 1931 5 window coupe studebaker with parts from anything i could find..and I love it dearly

  • the origanal rat rods were cars that were being driven while being still worked on whats more important the ability to drive it into town or having the body fixed up, so its a simple thing get your car operational and use it becuse cars are ment to be used... then while you have a working car you can spend so much money and time a week till you get it to were you want it... The term Rat Rod is a slap in the face to many Hot Roders, and the intention of making somthing to look old and shaby is...

  • @johncartelli at 20 a week you'll be 60 before you get done because the parts you put on it when you started will be bad. try 40.00 a week maybe you'll get done before you start getting S.S. checks.

  • @johncartelli Thats a real rat rod there, not just some black car with red wheels.

  • @johncartelli And where did you get the chasse from?

  • @CrimsonSkin given to me for free..

  • @johncartelli rolling chasses means body and frame without engine/trans. Good luck with the project!

  • @captainpegs07 ok..but for me, if its just a chassis and it will roll because at least the wheels are on..then its a rolling chassis. mtr tranny included or not...but thanks for your info..

  • @johncartelli Pics? I'll drop by your channel.

  • i like the hot rod in IRON MAN. it looks sooo coooll

  • Nice, though personally i'd get rid of the flames, perhaps keep them on ht egrill though.. and just have a bit of nice pinstriping ^.^

  • Professionally built hot rods completely destroy the entire point of what hot rods were meant to be. With more chrome than paint, rich yuppie fakes drive "hot rods", real hot rodders drive rat rods.

  • yeah so does my dad. whatever.

  • hmmmmmmmm, i went to school to be a mechanic, and 1200 horses aint that hard when your motor pushes out 800 horses naturally and you then put turbos on it, so fuck off

  • it is so easy to say you have something online b/c i would never know if you did or not. watch......i have a 2009 lamborghini gallardo that make 1500 hp and i have done 225 mph in it but i have no videos. where are your videos? so until then you fuck off.

  • there are very very few stock engines pumping out 800HP fuckwit.

  • ur goddamn right!

  • I agree with the fact that Professionally built hot rods rip the heart and soul out of hot rodding. But not all hot roders are rich yuppie fagots that never actually drive their cars. I build them on a hourly pay of $15 (not rich by any sense of the word). And i drive them like their built to be driven. Mostly rat rods are just an excuse to not finish your project. They'd be pretty fucking nice cars if they only had a paint job.

  • There's a car show at the Wendy's i work at every thursday. If anybody trailers a car for any reason other than it not being street legal, then they are told to go home. We had a $300,000 Bugatti Type 37 one time that the guy drove there meanwhile some guy tried to show off his professionally built hotrod that he trailered there.

  • Same here. The shows i go to, every single one of the cars are driven there. Some of them aren't even street legal (more dragster than car). I was just saying, just because it has paint and chrome" doesn't mean it doesn't get driven every day, and is owned by some rich hot rodder wannabe. And doesn't mean it was professionally built. There are some rat rods there, but not many, and NO one there is rich. They're all just working men like me.

  • thats what they've become, but not what they started out as. it used to be an excuse to save a car from rotting in a field. take a rusty old body, slap a running engine in it and roll! the "rat rod: scean gets alot of crap from people these days, but it was started with good intentions.

  • "what happens if it rains?"

    "cry first"

    lol

  • I love my 37 ford hot rod !!!

    beauty stylle

  • and now you can buy a 33 ford kit that handles like a porsche and at 2500 lbs will blow the doors off anything, complete with everything, you supply motor ,trans mission and paint, thats it,all for 20,000 US dollars.Factory Five is the company

  • it is the frist english bloke, I have have seen, that like US-made car.

    It is nice to see.

And I'm from Denmark and here is American-car starting to get as in Sweden, many pepole are starting to buy and restore, simply becures, They are nice cars to own and drive.

  • go fuck yourself

  • the best car right now is probably that tata nano. fucking great engine there.

  • what i find funny about this is that im an american and besides the 50's pick up i want to build id really verry much love to build a volvo PV544 or a TP21(sugga)

  • Those cars are absolutely gorgeus. Luv the looks, that V8 gargle and that particular Rat Rod is fab. £40/50K is a price worth taking. I want one! And I luv Ian's Coupe.

  • classic americans cars were the best but they lost it now a days.

  • Nice to see some Euros like American cars, I was starting to think they hated all of our cars...

  • no they hate the cars we made in the late 70's all the way up to like a year ago...

challengers and camero's are adored in Europe

  • we also adore rods, tri-Chevies, gassers, leadsleds... we in the UK kicked off the whole rat rod thing in the mid 1980s - something many people don't seem to realise.

Check out the British mags like Custom Car and Classic American, we're just as into the old American car scene as anyone else in the world.

  • Rat rods came from the 50's eighties don't count for anything you donkey.

  • Actually there was no such thing as a 'rat rod' in the 1950s, rat rods are being built today by people who think that's the way cars were intended to look - they weren't , they were simply unfinished cars. And if anything it's a 1930's 40's look. So check your hot rod history before you start calling anyone a donkey matey. A UK club called the Low Flyers kicked off the whole nostalgia build as a statement against the high $ bright red billet look of the 1980s that was rapidly getting boring.

  • @CycolacFan yes there was a huge brittish scene in the 80's. but there actually sort of were "ratrods" inthe 50's, although they probibly werent called that, but guy's wre choppin up and restoring cars from the 20's and 30's. in fact the scene was so big in the 80's there that there were songs written about the "skinhead/rockabilly rumbles on the beaches. fuck the jackass that called you a donkey. lol.

  • @JamesThWilliams thats not what he meant, jackass! he's reffering to the retro rockabilly scene that started being popular again in the '80's.

  • you realize that rat rodding has been around since the 50s right?

  • rat rods and hot rods are the way to go. i'm building a rat rod. out of an 1981 malibu wagon. mainly cause i cant find a steel bodied car to build my old school ratrod out of.

  • duce is becuse of being a '32 ford not a modle B... meny people say "look a rat rod" but odds are your asking for the owner to kick you in the nuts, most likly its a HOT ROD hot rods are made to be driven and lots of guys drive them around as the work on them

  • spell much?

  • What's funny is you spelling "your funny" instead of "you're funny.

  • Why does everyone insist on putting chevy junk in these beautiful old Ford's?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I would Love to put a Ford 351 in a '69 Camode. :P

  • probably because they want it to run reliably.

  • Your funny

  • no, it's because they're shit-cheap to buy. and about your "reliably", a chevy SB valve train is complete trash. you're welcome.

  • Brother I was wondering the same thing... I am building a 43 Chevy truck but my last build was a 72 Ford bronco Windsor 351

  • and people say american cars suck i would prefer a old hotrod/ratrod over a super car anyday infact i am building my own in my own garage

  • well this car was made before american car turn sucks...lol now us of a make junks mainly

  • the corvette is american and is a great car ...

  • I like the red car at the background in 3:00 :>

  • I LOOOOOOVE HOT RODS!

  • And just to add to that please people dont just go out and buy one, that aint hot rodding!!!!!!

  • I see all these cars all the time, i

i dunno why but i hate seeing hot rods on programmes like this, coz they dont know jack shit lol lets just keep hot rodding between us :)

  • got a 29 Model A

  • 69 dodge charger rt with a 440 best car ever (my baised opion as an owner) only seond to a 69 hemi daytona

but gotta love the real oldies

  • Wow1 First time I saw a British automobile program on American cars where someone didn't screw up the history or start belittling them.

Take, for example, a 1959 Desoto....usually the Brits will call them "Yank Tanks" and then start saying how an Austin A40 is better.

    Just ribbing you guys!

    However, he did screw up...ZZ Top didn't promote a 1932 Ford....they had a 1934 Ford as Eliminator.

  • I do agree with you, i am british and alot of people here do slate american cars, i have been guilty of this as i dont like some but hot rod's and american muscle in my opinion are unbeatable! i love them! just wish i could afford one over here

  • Cooooool ass video my man!!

  • I want one of those..... how to buy?

  • you build one oasiejiun, find a frame, and build it from the ground up.

  • Yeah rat rods have been around SoCal since the 40s

  • pwnt. go america!

  • Comment removed

  • They werent called rat rods in the 40s you fucking wanker.

  • Comment removed

  • @twoslices how do you know, dickhead? were you there? go have your tea and crumpets and shut the fuck up!

  • they didnt build them as ratrods in the 40s they just didnt bother with paint and other accessories they just spent all there money on the engine.

  • Comment removed

  • How often did they drive them back then? If you ever see a "rat rod" its usually just some guy trying to show off a rusted wreck at a car show, not "driving" like they were intended to be.

  • thats the reason for having a rat rod they werent for flash or ''bling'' like now they were performance and performance only!

  • you were led wrong it started in the mid late 40s in the US by the GIs that came back from the war!!

  • ummm where are the Americans?? Dont tell me all that was filmed in the UK!!!..... #@*%! All are vintage hot rods are going to europe!

  • "ZZ Top made famous?" Guess he never heard of the Beach Boys!!!

Every other country is USA's critic... and at the same time they are clamering for any bit of Americana.

  • you can buy it here, right on your doorstep,

    and what about germany? ;D

  • ive read the the purist hot rod groups don't like the term rat rod and claim those are the core style of hot rods, educate me

  • come to america and get yer fill....
