  • Guys , the strokes are NOT a secret . Look at Ireland , the UK , Australia and New Zealand . After 5 years of nothing , they can come back without an album and headline major summer festivals , be it T in the Park , Oxegen or Reading and Leeds . They re massive here , they ve completely reinvented a genre that had been in decline since Brit Pop and Girls bands. They re part of the reason that guitars have become so popular for young kids . Think how many bands have been influenced by them !

  • @Eamonn15ify You brought up some real good points..they do seem to be pretty famous all around the world..and they DID headline all those big festivals. I do agree that so many bands were strongly influenced by them. It's just that when I read that even Julian had wished they could have brought their cool music to more mainstream ears...it just reminded me how frustrated I get with the choices on the radio..so much crappy stuff being played..it just doesn't seem right!

  • at 4.38, its celebrate with a 'cigar lit' not 'cigarette'

  • I remembered when the strokes were a small time band... I've followed them since their beginning and I will follow them to the end.

  • how come the strokes aren't like someone everybody knows. when i bring up the strokes all i get are a bunch of " Who's???" i think i'm the only one in my school to know who they are...

  • @KatyForever93 That makes two of us.

  • @KatyForever93 the Strokes are like a special secret amongst us fans. people that dont know them dont know what great music theyre missing out on. that makes the Strokes even more special for me :)

  • @killanjo I agree..it's almost like a secret Strokes club..BUT..I do get frustrated that our really talented guys do not get the recognition they deserve..I read an interview just yesterday where Julian said "I wanted to bring underground, cool music to the mainstream-and since 2001 we haven't been able to do that" and he mentions bands like Green Day...STROKES MUSIC DESERVES TO BE HEARD!!! Who IS running these stupid radio stations???!!!

  • i think some lyrics might be wrong.. ?

  • Beautiful and profound....he is such a gifted song writer.

  • more than beautiful...

  • This is so good.

  • This guy just rhymed a word with orange... Julian Casablancas is a god.

  • through the redwood forest.........

  • can someone tell me what this is about? i would like to know :D

  • @MTrencher4life maybe you'll find it in this site: songmeanings . net

  • @JennyWantsToRock Thanks!! :D

  • @MTrencher4life Listen to what he's saying, and interpret it your own way, not someone else's opinion on a website..how does it relate to you.

  • @nekken87 i cound figuir it our ny wase. i just wanted to hear some one elses opion on it :D

  • word of wisdom! it's like he's talking too me<3

  • I love this like an unloved child love family traditions !

  • Sounds like something by The Velvet Underground... So fucking good

  • LEAVE JULIAN MUSIC TO THE ONES THAT DESERVE IT

  • this song has such a dylan influence, and i love it. so beautiful man. julian is a genius.

  • @yourpainismygain Julian is not influenced by anyone how dare you say that

  • @YourMomJJCC oh lmfao you're right i forgot.

  • He sounds like Bob Dylan here, weird, but not really...

  • I live on Long Island :D

  • is there a new album on the horizon? I like the Strokes, but I just adore his solo work, he is the Dylan of my generation in my eyes, and too bad that this generation can't appreciate him enough..this guy should deserve more fandom and should have way more views so that he could have a strong influence on the Bieber lover girls. And I'm not hating on B., I'm just saying that Julian should have his fandom for the simplest reason : he is more talented IMO

he's more talented than the most out there

  • @KicsiRamy i agree this guys music is revolutionary

  • @KicsiRamy Agree. I hate how people don't know about him. :/ Or only know him because of Boombox, and haven't seen his other works.

And to answer your question, in a radio interview he says he has enough ideas/melodies to make another album but I'm not sure if he's going to.

Also, I heard that he is making some sort of cologne and will make music for a commercial to promote it. But that's all I know.

  • @KicsiRamy I agree with you, but maybe it's better if Julian and The Strokes are followed by people who can really appreciate how much they're good and talented =)

  • @KicsiRamy couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @KicsiRamy um, do you really want a bunch of stupid little girls obsessing over him like idiots? I think its better this way, just leave Julian to the people who deserve him. I dont know about you but the last thing I would want is his image ruined by bieberfans, thank you. Just my opinion

  • @KicsiRamy exactly what i was gonna say

  • @ jubilaz

Well, pointless little wiseass, I obviously do know a bit about music. Otherwise I wouldn’t have said I was only pointing out ´some connections and references in people’s creative work every once in a while`, which basically indicates that I am well aware that adopting or adapting parts of already existing pieces of music into new songs is a rather common thing to do. So, next time actually read what somebody else wrote before you yap against it.

  • My favorite song!

  • And just to get this straight: I’m not spreading this info to disparage Mr. Casablanca’s work. I consider him a rather interesting musician. But I still think it’s important to highlight some connections and references in people’s creative work every once in a while…

  • Just like some other poster somewhere on Youtube said before: the chorus of this song is copy and paste ´This Land is your Land` by Woody Guthry. Or probably not even really by Woody Guthry either, because according to Wikipedia Guthry only wrote the lyrics to an already existing melody. Which is probably why Mr. Casablancas faced no copyright problems adopting the melody and providing it with yet another lyrics.

  • @68mastermind

If you knew anything about music you would know all folk musicians copy melodies and chord progressions that aren't their own. A lot of Bob Dylan's early songs copied chord progressions directly from old folk songs and Woody Guthrie songs. He had no shame in admitting this. All musicians copy each other, what matters is whether they or honest or not.

  • this is fucking brilliant.

  • omg he sounds bobdylan-ish lou reed-ish AMAZING

  • @pupl0vr but you can actually understand Julian Casablancas ;) lol Bob Dylan is great, but I cant understand what hes saying half the time.
