@frenchiecocorico1 man I sure would be blessed if I could get my hands on the English translation of this song...unfortunatley in America (plus my grandfather was killed many many years ago) many have lost our roots..... I know beyond a doubt by my dads blood name that I am Anglo-Saxon.....and for some reason I am really drawn to this music.... could you if you would be so kind explain these lyrics to me...... I would pray a blessing for you if you would be so kind as to share your time
@shovelniron In the case your family name would be Shannon then your roots aren't Anglo Saxon but Irish and Celts. (See my complete answer in your personnal You Tube email box)
@frenchiecocorico1 Actually my fathers birth name is Algers and my mother from France was (Dubay) in American English.... I do not know much about my fathers parents as my grandfather was killed when my dad was only 2 years old and put up for adoption.... I know that Algers came from the England area but beyond that I know nothing really other than Algers meant "noble sword or noble spear" , i wish I knew more about my grandfathers family...but yes my mothers grandfather came from France.
@shovelniron Here's what I can say about Algers ethymology. This is a Saxon originated name but not english. This name is composed by two words "Al" = in German language "Alle" as "All" in english and "Gers" (like in the word German) which means "Brother, tribe or race" So, Algers means "all the brother" or "brotherhood" of the same tribe. The Saxon tribes were the gathering of the same family members (grand parents, parents, uncles, nephews, cousins, ....).
@frenchiecocorico1 do you have any idea where the Saxon tribes originally came from? I learned from a few biblical scholars that the name Saxon meant "Isaccs sons" ...tracing them back to some of the lost tribes of Isreal..do you have any knowledge of this?
@shovelniron As far as I could know, the researchers found the more distant Saxon and generally German tribes origins (Saxons, Teutons, Alamans, Lombards or even Franks) in the Caucasia area between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea shores.
I ignore whether "Saxon" ethymology could mean "Itzak son" but I know well some religious faith in the USA believe the inhabitants are the direct jew descendants.
@frenchiecocorico1 (2) and many thanks from a friend in America .... if you know anything about any of my family names please don't hesitate to share.....this form of history is lost in America today...so I appreciate you sharing the information you have...... thank you Frenchman...may the Lord remember the kindness you showed me
Very nice!... even if I definitely cannot understand what a bunch of nerdy LARP players has to do with the song (if they actually sing the original one... cuz I wasn't able to understand all the lyrics... the accent maybe?)
Three young sailory went on a journey The wind drove them To the new world Beside the stone of the old mill They lowered anchor And in the mill There was a servant She asked me Where we got to know each other In Nantes at the market We chose a ring The ring of engagement And we were short before marriage We will marry Even if we dont have any goods
My mother, you are living comfortable You dont know who is suffering We have neither house nor straw Nor bed to sleep at night We have neither sheet nor blanket Or quilt (pillow?) beneath our heads We will do it like the down-and-out We will sleep on the floor We will do it like the partridge When the sun rises, it runs away My song is at an end The on who knows, may continue
I've been listening to this song since a young teenager (I'm 42 now.) I first heard it by Alan stivell (still one of my favorite singers/musicians). It still makes my hair stand on end. BUT.....can any one tell me what the song is about. I would truley love to know. It would mean a great deal to me.
My mother, you are living comfortable You dont know who is suffering, We have neither house nor straw Nor bed to sleep at night, We have neither sheet nor blanket Or quilt (pillow?) beneath our heads, We will do it like the down-and-out We will sleep on the floor, We will do it like the partridge When the sun rises, it runs away, My song is at an end The on who knows, may continue,

@zeerot53 Before writing anything about the Britons and their origin, informs you! opens a book! the Bretons came to Armorica (ancient name of the peninsula) from the island of Britain, which has since become Great Britain. Some came from Cornwall = Kernevez, other Wales: Caerllion = Bro-Leon, the other Devon = Domnonea. If you do not know when it avoids unnecessary comments
@ismawelcome Aren't there different forms of gaelic? Breton for instance has a lot of Zs in the language whic you won't find in Irish or Scots gaelic although I think Cornish may have Zs..
There are three different forms of Gaelic (Irish/Scottish/Manx), none of which is Breton. I think what you are talking about is Celtic languages, Gaelic(s) are just a sub-genre of them.
You are right however, in saying that Breton resembles Cornish, as they are indeed closely related. The Bretons are descended from Welsh and Cornish (Romano-British) that fled Britain to escape the Anglo-Saxons (English).
It's about three sailors (Tri= three, martolod= sailors) who sail off to Newfoundland, I think, and have crazy adventures and a long trip. In the end, when they finally reach Newfoundland (Canada), one of them falls in love with a girl at the bar, and when he realises she is of Breton descent, they decide to bring her back and they get married. There you go! ;)
It's more than a "metal" version...they enriched the sound givin'it a more deeper sound...i can understand that you may not like the vocals, but only for the instrumentals parts,is the best version of this song.
The vocals are absolutely brilliant though. Oppinions are like...well you know the saying :D I think this is the best version of this song, hands down.
Sure it this...But Inis Mona should be considered not a only a version of this song,it's a completely re-arrangated song ...at the end,it's only got a "taste" of this song ;)
Sorry, but this song is not in the Barzaz Breizh. It is a traditional bigouden fishers song, called "Dans Ron", made famous by Alan Stivell in 1971/72. Manau made a joke of this, using only the tune and not the lyrics.

Prosiendo.

This is a traditional song from Brittany in France and not medieval. "Tri martolod" means "Three sailors". The lyrics are in Britton dialect:
Three young sailors going to travel
The wind took them away to Terre Neuve

those knights are here just to be epic.
Even if the song is completely about something different the clip looks cool and attracts attention imo

...Hmm. I hope you realize your grammar fails. ''Your'' describes something that, in some way, belongs to you. Not what you are/what you're doing.
Holy fuck that comment is hilarious. Hilarious because of the repeated, epic failure.

Prosiendo.
