  • Hey scrutmonkey what happens after this in the film? Does "No Two People" segue into another song? It's been 20 years since I've seen this movie.

I believe this part of the film was a dream sequence, correct?

  • when i was young i used to want this to be sung at my wedding, not much has changed!

  • Zizi Jeanmaire a french singer/ ballet dancer was the singer with him here. (Taken from WIKI.)

  • i always loved this movie too bad i CANT FIND IT ON DVD IF SOMEONE CAN TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET I WILL BE GRATEFUL

  • @DivinaM1105 Netflix has it

  • Beautiful! I never knew he was married!

  • I call bullshit. Hans Christian Andersen was gay. In fact, the inspiration behind "The Little Mermaid" actually came as a love letter to his former boyfriend, Edvard Collin. Thats right, everyone's favorite Danish storyteller was gay.

  • She is french!

  • Hans totally owned that wife beating clown :)

  • Do you think you could post the clip when he sings "anywhere i wander"? I can't find it and that part makes my soul quiver!

  • The bride has a French accent..

  • AWESOME see through wedding dress! I want my bride to wear that to the Honeymoon, BOinnnggggg!!

  • Michael Jackson's favorite movie.

  • What a fruit.

Isn't this around the time our bullshit government was telling us to hide under our desks for safety when the 'bomb' drops.

Where's the token black actor ..er...uh.. oh yeah, I forgot why all of you like the film so much.

I think that freewhelinfrank dude is right - That Andersen sure did like dolls & kids a bit too much.

  • @hitlerinspace: Fear breeds contempt. You fear what you don't understand. You and Freewhelin should take your homophobic selves (hand and hand) down the yellow brick road.

You said - "Where's the token black actor ..er...uh.. oh yeah, I forgot why all of you like the film so much."

Huh? Oh please DO tell us why we like the film so much. LOL

  • could someone plz post the whole movie...? I'd like to see it entirely.

Danny Kaye was such a wonderful actor, I love his movies...

  • could someone post the whole movie plz....?I would love to see it entirely

  • Straight up quote from Wikipedia .. " In recent times some literary studies have speculated about the homoerotic camouflage in Andersen's works".

  • @FreewheelinPhrank What's your point?

First, Wikipedia is not the end all, be all for information; You do know that, don't you?

Second, Danny was quite known for liking the girls a lot.

You seem to have an odd fascination in the area of homosexuality and pedophiles . Maybe you should look in the mirror?

  • What a lovely clip. Too bad real life is rarely like this.

  • @pris613 This is a dream Hans is having about the ballerina. She doesn't love him, but he thinks she does. It is based on real life infatuations HCA had with a ballerina and a male ballet dancer.

  • A treasure!

  • that dress was VERY see through.. you could see her ass and thighs i swear

  • @littleamoeba: Her ass is covered with a leotard and seeing thighs...wow, how tragic.

Apparently you've never been to the ballet, eh?

  • @chaoscleaner no, i have, i just wouldn't have expected it from something on screen . they were usually more reserved weren't they?

  • @littleamoeba Bless your heart. I don't consider bare legs (and actually they weren't) to be objectionable in any way. This film followed th 19820;s, with it;s Flappers and short skirts and films that had Flappers in them. No one died from it. [g]

  • I love the parts just before this when she steps through the store front into her gown and he into his suit! So charming...

  • Danny Kaye was an amazing talent.

  • is the bride german?, she has a pretty remarkable german accent

  • I have no idea I'm afraid. I always thought she was when I was little lol

  • @scrutmonkey81

her french accent is so thick i always thought thought she was speaking spanish :)

  • I think she's French.

  • yes I think also french, not german.

  • she's French. it's zizi jeanmarie who was a famous ballerina, married to Roland Petit, a famous French choreographer.

  • @jewish1972 i think its french, as her name is zizi jeanmaire :) x

  • @jewish1972

wow i thought it was a french accent...lol

  • @jewish1972: She was born in Paris, France. And it sounds (to me, and probably the rest of the free world) like a French accent.

  • @jewish1972 sound's to me more french ;-)

  • @jewish1972 No, she was French. Renee (Zizi) Jeanmaire.

  • @jewish1972 She's a french ballerina named Jeanmarie

  • @jewish1972 She's French. The actress herself is French and is a very famous ballerina in real life! :) I always loved this movie and this song is so cute!

  • @jewish1972

She's actually French. But I agree; her accent is remarkable.

  • @jewish1972 her accent sounds french to me

  • @jewish1972 I'm German, I think her accent sounds not German at all, mostly french or something like that.

  • @jewish1972 yes she is in the beginning of the credits it says and introducking the famous french ballernia ...... her name i dont remember at the time

  • @jewish1972 i thought she was french

  • can someone please please please post Zitzi Jeanmarie's ballet performances in this movie? Thanks.

  • I will try and do it if you havent got it yet

  • Loved all the musicals my mom took me to see as a child, and this one, at age 9, was at the top of the list! I even played the music on the piano.

  • re your comment al2..... yes, absolutely ,I know things:)

  • this is a bit..hmm.. 'Doris Day / Rock Hudson' isn't it ?...Loving it ! Great Post ! =D

  • @allertonoff2 Doris Day did cover this song but with Donald O'Connor.

  • thank, thank, thank you for putting these up.. this brings back so many memories.. I love it

  • Can you belive this beautiful dancer Zitzi Jeanmarie still performs in a caberat act. Her husband is a famous choreographer. He created the Carmen ballet for her and its still performed. She performed it w/ Barisnokov (spl).

  • Danny Kaye sang exceptionally well in duets. Doris Day recorded the best female part of this song with Donald O'Connor, but I like this version better with Danny singing.

  • Cute.

  • skrutmonkey81 he he

Yes, it is a problem. I learned that during my time as a wireless operator in the marine.

ALWAYS spell a persons name right. Never mind if misspelling in the txt.

  • His name is:

    Hans Christian Anders(e)n

  • Yes I have already been told that.Still, you managed to find it so no problem eh

  • I thank god for the parents keeping the love of these type of movies in their kids lives'. I have seen so many of Danny Kaye's, Jerry Lewis, Bing Crosby's movies, I feel blessed that my mother showed me these.

  • I first saw this on video in the late 80s. It is a classic!

  • I'm 59 and was taken by Mum to see this in about 1953 when I was 4. Apparently I was so enthralled by it, I pleaded to be taken again and again. I can see why I loved it so much. God bless the great Danny Kaye. Never been anyone like him.

  • greatest actor ever! any man who can be sweet and make me laugh wins my heart

  • Danny Kaye was so handsome and charming. Or he looked like he was.

  • Aww yes. I grew up listening to an LP of Danny Kayes greatest. This was one of them. I think I had a sort of childhood infatuation with him! Good memories xx

  • what childhood memories this brings back!Thanksgiving day in NYC, watching it after the macys parade with my brothers and sisters.Life is sweet..cherrish good memories like this clip!!

  • WPYX every year, I just love it 2 .Too bad they don't show it any more along with The March of the Wooden soliders

  • Oh! I have a bird that does just the same! I have the VHS at home. I didn't know that you could get this movie on DVD; my VHS is wearing out from watching it so many times!

  • I wore mine out when I was a kid. I just remember fantasising about the coloured pointe shoes and always being disappointed mine were boring coloured. good luck finding it :)

  • My Video wore out too but I still watch it to listen to the audio, but one sweet day I saw it on DVD in HMV!

  • I love love love this movie! Do you have the first ballet scene when jean-mare (Doral) first meets Danny Kaye?

  • Im afraid I don't have the movie anymore, don't leave dvd's lying around when you have a rabbit that will eat anything!

  • Thank you so much for posting this scene. It's one of my favorites.
