@iovandrake The laser systems we use nowadays don't come with one-shot battery charges. You have a big-ass generator and capacitator in the back of a truck. I imagine that a tactical man-portable laser would have something like a car battery at least in a pouch or pack.

Though such a system could work better than a larger pack (it's easier to change magazines than it is to lug around a large battery or even worse have to charge it back up). So having disposable battery ammunition for each concentrated shot could be more practical in that regard.

@iovandrake It's a funny thing, what people consider horrendous. A comon problem during WW II was bayonets. Soldiers would use their rifles as clubs rather than deliberately pierce someone with a piece of steel. It's not a matter of some kind of hitpoint ratio.
