  • Alright I absolutely adore Ramin singing thin song and every other time I've herd Ben i"ve been iffy, but this one is close. However the way Ben sings real (2:31) us not as good as Ramins. its also very hard to choose one over the other because Ben sings in a more mature tone as appose to Ramins. Id also like to point out that when Ben makes that hand motion at 2:40 is originally what Ramin does. I think that im still leanin twords Ramin

  • I watched LND - and I kind of wish I didn't just purely because I feel it stripped away all that was beautiful in TPOTO. But in saying that, this song is amazing and Ben Lewis sings the hell out of it! His voice is rich and powerful - and i watch this video over and over again

  • I wasn't big on his singing at first, but after I heard Ben sing this, I have definitely grown to like him! [:

  • watched the live show last night in Sydney...wow!!!! Ben was awesome, the show looked and sounded fantastic. cast should be VERY VERY proud.

  • I love Ramin but this guy is fantastic too! They're both amazing in their own way.

Ramin is one of my favourite performers and I absolutely adore his version of this song but I have to admit Ben Lewis sings this perfectly. His voice is so rich and powerful and the emotion is all there. Ramin sounds a lot more youthful I think.

I've not seen LND because I really dislike the fact that it's a POTO sequel but I love this song to bits.

  • I really dislike the idea of a PotO sequel but saw LND multiple times. Ben Lewis blew me away without fail, every single show. He is powerful and magnetic; his voice just draws you in, exactly like the Phantom should.

I'm also a big fan of Ramin -- just saw his Valjean, which was awesome! -- but even so, I have to admit he's pretty pitchy (he comes in sharp a lot). Ben is much better at hitting the right notes consistently. I do love both performers but personally Ben's LND!Phantom is my fave.

  • When I got the program I looked at who was playing the Phantom (Ben Lewis) and I was a little sceptical and then the opening scene came on and he started to sing and a was awestruck I would never have expected to hear such a voice from him!! But wow, seriously just WOW!!

  • This is a truly terrific performance. From a musical stand point, he sings with perfect clarity and strength, and for a musical genre, has passion and despair in his voice. Such a beautiful performance.....a true phantom!

  • is he standing in a kitchen? :/

  • @ulrika97 It's probably some kind of conference room... this was filmed at a rehearsal they did before going into the theatre, I believe.

  • *Song finishes*

Director: "Oh, the water in the kettle over there has boiled."

Someone else: "But....it wasn't plugged in."

    Ben: "I know ;)"

  • Ben Lewis for Phantom when the original tours Australia once more! So glad I saw LND in Melbourne... so excited for the DVD release! Something tells me I will be watching it more than once!!

  • Making WAAPA proud, good onya Ben!

  • When i first heard him here on this youtube video, i thought he was ok and not too good, but when i went and seen him perform live last night i was completely blown away on how powerful his voice is. He has grown much better, now i really like his voice and this video too!! I really liked how they change a couple of words from some songs, it makes it a really unique experience. I hope a dvd for australia comes out soon!

  • @lovelysky100 well, 3 months until the dvd is released is kind of soon, so you'll get your wish :)

  • I saw LND Melbourne on the weekend and I wasn't too sure whether I would like it or not. But I went there and I was completely blown away it was amazing. A must see! Ben made me cry as the phantom. Definitely seeing it again before it heads to Sydney :)

  • Ben and Ramin are both wonderful Phantoms. I think Ben captures the emotional essence of the Phantom while Ramin has the beautiful vocals and sexier more darker side of the Phantom. Overall great choice!

  • Ramin is closer to Michael Crawford. It's what I grew to love. It's like I know that Barbra Streisand had one of the best voices ever and can perform Memory adequately if not better than most people in the whole wide world. But Elaine Page will always be Grizabella. Out of all the LND Phantoms: Both Ramin and Ben are the best of the 2.

  • When the cast was first announced I really did not like his singing or acting style. However, he has definitely grown on me. I'm in love with the sound of his voice. Ramin is still my favorite, but I am very impressed. :)

  • @politicalcorruption ramin being better is an opinion, not a fact. i have seen all 4 lnd uk phantoms, as well as ben and they were all amazing in their own way imo. to have a preference is fine, but this is about the 4thtime i have seen you comment on a video of ben singing and each time you praise ramin while downgrading ben. and then you make your opinion sound like its fact when its just an opinion. if ben is so much worse than ramin, why waste your time listening to him just to insult him?

  • @trombne1980 to see what the big deal...obviously!

  • @politicalcorruption big deal?

  • @politicalcorruption it wasn't the fact that you like ramin better than ben.as i said, i liked ramin. he is my fav in poto and one of my faves in lnd. its the way your opinion was done. from the looks of it, you didnt mean to come across as bashing ben, sorry, but it was easy to interpret it that way. fans do not always like something negative spoken about an actor they like on a video about that actor, as they consider it rude. anyway, i hope you can warm up to ben for the dvd if you like lnd

  • @trombne1980 thank you for the apology. and i too am sorry if i came across that way. fact of the matter is, whether we a ramin or ben fan, it would be an injustice if either side denied both these actors are superbly amazing actors with incredible voices. hope we get to enjoy more of these great actors' work in the furtue :)

  • @politicalcorruption well, ramin is going to be on the phantom 25 dvd. and i think i heard aboutt him starring in a canadian film and he is about to star in a musical about houdini. and yes, both of them are good. can't wait to watch the poto 25 dvd and lnd dvd back to back :)

  • @trombne1980 yup me neither :D yay :D

  • Not sure I like the lyric rewrites. But he is amazing. He has more power then Ramin. But I love them both :)

  • I love this song and I love Ben singing it...

  • God, I love Ben's voice!! -3

  • I definitely prefer Ben over Ramin. Ramin's voice is amazing, but his performance style is very youthful and energetic. If you look at LND as a stand-alone piece (as ALW has suggested), this is fine, but Ben's performance feels much more in keeping with the Phantom from the original. Ramin is very angry and bombastic as the Phantom, while Ben keeps the anger balanced with the sad tenderness that made POTO so moving. I can believe that Ben is the same man from POTO, just older and weary.

  • Saw Love Never Dies last night, My sister and I were blown away at Ben's talent! :D We love this song <3

  • he gives me the goosebumps even ramin cannot...

  • I saw Love Never Dies recently and I think that Ben Lewis was incredible as the Phantom. He took my breath away and I cannot imagine a better performer in such an iconic role. What great talent.

  • Personally, I prefer John Owen Jones' version (you can find it on youtube, he did it for a live radio show, or Ramin's but Ben has a terrific voice, like, seriously terrific, and I can't wait to see what he does with the character.

  • I've always thought the ideal sound for the phantom would be a light tenor like Michael Crawford... but after seeing Anthony Warlow in the flesh as the Phantom in the original Phantom of the Opera, I love the dark rich timbre of a baritone singing the role - as n1nthr93 said, "mysterious, ominous, dark, but tender" - and so listening to Ben Lewis (a baritone I assume) singing this role in what I imagine to be a tenor's range is just amazing! :)

  • Actually, I think Ben is fantastic. The Phantom ought to be mysterious, ominous, dark, but tender too and the depth of Ben's vocals capture the light and shade, the very heart of the Phantom's struggle. I don't usual comment on these walls, but I was quite struck by Ben's performance - I thought he was excellent.

  • @n1nthr93 I completely agree, I just went to watch it yesterday, and to me he was the highlight of the show!

  • @n1nthr93 Choosing a baritone for an older and sadder Phantom (over a tenor like the original) is a stroke of genius I think. The depth really carries that extra something. This Phantom is no longer the young lustful mastermind we once knew. The years have made him really bitter and frustrated, and the weight of his obsession is greater. I think you do sense that focus throughout the whole piece. There is purposefully less musical variations and more restraint.

I thought it was a masterpiece.

  • I love Ben's version. Until you've heard him sing this live in the production you have no say in who's better. I've seen both, and they're incomparable. Both sung it differently, both sung it perfectly in their own way :)

  • Wow Wow The Phantom lives in Aussie alias Ben Lewis. It is beautiful and sends shivers. When will the australian cast CD / DVD be available ? i want to be first order.Go Aussie cast you nailed it.

  • I prefer Ramin but Ben is not bad...

  • Seeing this in July -3

  • OMG, I love this fantastic song..... How can i resist at this song?

Love the lyrics, the melody and the man who singing it, is "cute"?

Whoever who sing it, this song is a magnificent proof of Love and sincerity of the words are incredible!

  • ramin is definitely much better overall, especially in the lower register, but ben can absolutely nail that Bb

  • Oh my god, this is gorgeous.

  • absolutely rocked it last Sunday Benny...good to hear that high Bb hit LIKE A BOSS!!! :D :D :D

  • Saw a preview performance in Melbourne earlier this week. The two leads sang beautifully. Really enjoyed the show but just don't think that LND has as many excellent moments as POTO. One of the best was The Beauty Underneath. The staging of that song was absolutely superb. Saw Ben Lewis in the street today by chance, but was too shy to say what a great job he had done. Go see it and judge for yourselves.

  • Here Here regnjen! Nicely put.

Good onya Bennie. It's come miles from months ago. Can't wait to see you do your thing.

  • Please don't compare an artist who is singing into a microphone at a press release or a sitzprobe with another artist performing on stage, in character, infront of a live audience. You can't possibly say one is better than the other. I have seen Ben in several musical performances and I can say that performing in character live on stage Ben is amazing.

To all of you who bag a performer, I look forward to seeing you on Australias got talent where we can judge you as you judge others. Take Tissues!

  • @regnjen regnjen....I think I love you xxx

  • Sounds better than Ramin's IMO. Can't wait for a National Tour so it can come to Perth :)

  • By George he's got it ! Sounds magnificent

  • Ben Lewis comes from a legacy of good singers both of his parents and his brother have international careers in the operatic world..So is no wonder Ben Lewis is also an accomplished singer himself ,together with a great stage presence.

  • mmm no offense but ramin is way better

  • @roxanaphantom Yeah, for Love Never Dies, Ramin is best Phantom ever. For Phantom of the Opera, Michael Crawford is best ever.

  • It was even better live! This video doesn't do it justice. Go see it! You will not be disappointed.

  • Awesome,

I wasn't so keen on Ben Lewis playing the Phantom, but he actually impressed me this time :o

  • @TLKthing3 He just needs time to get into the role. Most major performers do, especially for such a huge part! :)

  • @BusinessDog2000 Yeah, I understand xD I'm on a musical-theatre college.

But it was his vocal range which made me worry.

  • @TLKthing3 This is already a HUGE improvement from the last press video of him recorded a few months ago, so I'm really confident in him now :) I really like his voice. He sounds more "older" than some of the others I have heard.

  • @BusinessDog2000 His voice also sounds like a phantom to me.

We'll see how it goes :) I can't wait 'til I see can see it.

  • @TLKthing3 Got my tickets already :D

  • @BusinessDog2000 Haha, I don't live anywhere near Australia xD

I'm from the Netherlands, europe But I've seen the london production a few times and I'm really curious how much Love Never Dies is changed in Australia :p
