Why does NYPD have Heavy Rescues? Why do they have officers in NJ and overseas? They are out of control and being funded by the CIA, that's why. They like taking jobs from the military and now they are stealing calls from FDNY. If that motorcyclist that died some time ago because of ESU tells you anything, it is a very dangerous department.
@OnThe23rd Well NYC is the center for global terrorism throughout the world. If you ask any terrorist their #1 goal is NYC. So after 9/11 money poured into NYC for NYPD to strengthen and waste money on any they want to buy. There is two ESU trucks, 1 smaller one ( More of these vehicles maybe 50 - 100 in NYPD ) and the big one you saw ( 20-40 ). The vehicles are fit for ANY kind of operation/rescue. I didn't even know some of those tools exist until I saw the inside. Is it needed? *Shrugs*
@marchdisco77 I had the same question so I went to Rescue 1 headquarters and put the question to the guys on duty and they sort of shrugged their shoulders and said "the police can do whatever they want." There you have it.
@code3paris now for the real answer: the cops have their own heavy rescues because fdny's heavy rescues & nypd's neavy rescues respond to slightly different calls. The one's from fdny will go to stuff like crasjes, elevator rescues, fires... nypd's do stuff like co2 alarms, bombs, threats... Also, nypd has many more than fdny, so they might be able to reach the call faster.
@code3paris That is, sadly, the issue that the FDNY faces everyday with the "hotdogs" of NYPD ESU. Other than SWAT and other police matters they are firefighter wanna-bes who get in the way of the firefighters trying to do their job. It is a duplication of services and costs the city millions and because they are the police they can get away with it. They are arrogant police and think they are as elite or even better than FDNY Rescue which is total bullshit!
@marchdisco77 I could be mistaken, but I believe the ESU is basically NYPD's SWAT team. They get called out to any situation patrol officers can't handle. As for the ambulances, those are regular FDNY units.
@marchdisco77 Ok All that your talking about in the NYPD falls under ESU, They Get crazy people from bridges, Do warrants all that good cop shit ... They do everything Firefighters (and carry guns) do but run into burning buildings .. but they Respond to car accidents, and everything else all the same ... there is no "lighten" load... shit happens all day in the city its more like extra help
lol, thanks. Now got me looking for good ESU uploads. Now does NYPD have a dedicated SWAT team or do they just use ESU....oooooor is ESU New York talk for SWAT team?
@marchdisco77 It's a complicated question. In truth, the NYPD Emergency Service Unit has been around for a very long time - back in the days when the fire department was concerned mostly with real fires, not rescues or medicals. A few years back the city set forth Core Competencies for each department, but was unable to solve the longstanding problem of who gets jurisdiction at auto accidents - it's still "whoever gets there first"
@firemedic916 I titled it correctly. I also could have written HAZMAT and that would have been correct as well. The ESU do much more than SWAT work. Do some research and you'll see.
@code3paris Frenchy here is right. ESU not only do SWAT/SRT operations but are a multifunctional unit in New York who attend and assist in such situations as HAZMAT, SWAT, S&R etc. They also attend scene that would not usually require police presence. They attend most things that the FDNY do even when they do not essentially need to be there.

@firemedic916 They are also heavy rescue equipped and do extrication, building collapse and other fire duties if they get there first. They have been butting heads with the FDNY for years and have even tried to take over ALL rescue duties in the city. The FDNY needs a mayor with some balls to put the NYPD in it's place.
@marchdisco77 On the ESU patch is a FDNY Fire truck. In the early 1900's when there were fires,(no fire codes, flammable building materials, no sprinklers, etc) the Fire Department gave the Police Department a truck so that they could respond to rescues and, indeed, "lighten the load" of the Fire Department. The men of ESU keep this very same truck operational and they drive it out on funerals.
@jazzbutterworth You have done me a favor. Thank you. It is always disturbing when this happens. Please send my a personal message with your mailing address.
Thank you again and thanks for watching my videos!
The 2nd is the Emergency Service Unit-Truck which is like a Rescue Unit or in Germany a " Rüstwagen" for the Police with SCBA´s hazmat tools and ballistic shields. simply google NYPD ESU and go to the Wiki site.
@call17police NYPD ESU is a mix between SWAT, Riot Police and Fire Department.
They do Hostage Situations, Raids, dangerous warrants etc., they secure various buildings like the Stock Exchange against Terrorism, do bomb-squad work and they also provide technical rescues like accidents, trench rescues, water rescue or combined space rescue.
The ESS-Truck is equipped for both, law enforcement and rescue operations, it's carrying multiple tools and jaws of life, but also guns, armor and shields
@Crazyfogfighter NYPD has two Detectives - Detective Specialists, which are specialists in all the stuff and Detective Investigators, who are real detectives. ESU is in the Special Operations Bureau as far as I know, so it's two different bureaus.
that heavy rescue your all talking about the truck number is 5514

I'm guessing the ESU can also act as a mobile command point for the NYPD.
