  • It's a beautiful song, but the drums ruin it imo. It takes away from how haunting the melody is supposed to be.

  • Beautiful, although I prefer the version sung in the film itself (by the fire). The first time I heard it I was absolutely brought to my knees.

  • I don't know if anyone has already mentioned it, but this was the theme tune to Rob Roy, in 1995. You can still get the soundtrack. Fantastic track.

  • Beautiful images (besides the music obviously!). What a shame that one hardly ever gets to see Scotland like this due to the awful weather up there. It's worse than in Ireland. And you'd think that wasn't possible!

  • Troles Foleman basically remixed it for Tomb Raider Legend!!!

  • @tunante80 Neist Point, Glendale, Isle of Skye. If I remember correct the owner rents out part of it in the tourist season, but that was a while ago now. It's also a long walk from where you have to leave your car, up and down a very steep stairway.

  • @aodh78 Thank you for the information! I can see you´re from UK, but are you from Scotland? Here in the North of Spain we have similar places but Scotland has something I can´t explain....I love it. Happy new year.

  • This song and the story behind it makes me cry every single time I hear it.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

Who plays the uilleann pipe, Davy Spillane?

  • Honestly this has to be the most beautiful song I have ever heard.

  • einfach fantastisch

  • i love this kind of music, this sounds almost like what was used for the Tomb Raider Legend main theme

  • @lunavixen015 it was used for the tomb raider legend main theme it was remixed with tibbeten throat singing such a cool theme

  • @captainlolz2007 but the song itself is much older than that, this is one of those songs that has been rewritten many times by many people, this is an Irish version of the song, but i have heard celtic versions as well

  • @lunavixen015 are you sure its irish gaelic cause capercallie are a scottish folk band is not scottish gaelic? cause i'm pretty sure this version is different to the version which was sung by Meav who is irish

  • @captainlolz2007 there are many versions, my grandmother said this was an Irish version, but it may not be, i'm not 100% sure, if it's not i'll admit my error

  • @lunavixen015 This is Scottish Gaelic. Wikipedia mentions an Irish origin, but I don't find it elsewhere and have read so many different stories that I don't know what to believe. I got to see the singer, Karen Matheson, perform this a cappella at the Festival Interceltique in France, and she was truly amazing. (BTW - great festival with Scottish, Irish, Breton & other Celtic groups there each year.) Check out the "Rob Roy" version on YouTube. That's her as well.

  • @UISTMAN59 I learned the term "a cappella" in my elementary school in a blue collar US city. Term used for barbershop quartets and other unaccompanied performances regardless of musical style. It's not a "posh" term here.

  • @lunavixen015 It is 100% Scots Gaelic check my reply to captainlolz2007.

  • @captainlolz2007 It is most certainly Scots Gaelic and not Irish. The translation of the title is "Dark haired Alan". Written about Ailein Moireasdan "Alan Morrison" It is a love song.

  • @lunavixen015 This song is in scots Gaelic, but if it was in Irish Gaelic it would be pretty much the same. When you say you have heard Celtic versions, what do you mean?

  • @eamonmmac like other songs, this one has probably been done in more than one manner

  • I'm using this song to learn Gaelic as no1 will actually take the time to teach it to me and I cant understand it over net cos I cant read it. I get the gist of the song andd am starting to learn the lyrics its a real shame that this great language is now nearly lost!

  • Amazingly beautiful! I also Like Maev's version as well. Why is it so difficult to find this kind of music in the stores? It sure is a lot better than the crap that the music industry is trying to sell us!

  • @aleut77

probably because bands like this love what they do so much that they don't sell out for a wheelbarrow of money by letting a director with "connections" ruin their art while sending it out mainstream in a red bikini with a crew of half naked ladies shakin' it in the background.

Not that I have an issue with half naked ladies mind you:))

It's just that art can't stand tall while grabbing for cash.

What this guys are doing towers over anything mainstream. True honest music.

  • @aleut77 maybe you are going to the wrong stores

  • @aleut77

    True music for the sole

  • @aleut77 +1

  • @aleut77 I tottally agree

  • @aleut77 i've asked myself and music store managers that very question for the past 20 years.

  • @aleut77 One suspects that its because its beyond the... well, a better way of saying it is that it is well below the bell curve of most people that would be buying the, as you so eloquently put it, crap that the music industry is trying sell to us.

  • @ookibaka When you find a store that will import it for you, patronise them! We can change their ordering and special orders can be ridiculously cheaper than stock they have to buy on spec.

  • @aleut77 it indeed is! these days i only listen celtic music, because compared to this the general popmusic sucks.

  • @aleut77 I totally agree, I`m sick ot the rubbish they promote these days, its crap!

  • thats beautiful

  • This song was a favorite at millings here, but it was sung 3 times as fast! To go with the work, right?

  • Me encanta. Estuvieron en Córdoba, España, y tuvieron un éxito arrollador.

  • Capercaillie' een o ma favorite Scottish groups' cheers fur posten!

    Gordon

  • I´ve had the good luck of watching Capercaillie performing twice and I must say that Karen Matheson has one of the most elegant voice that I´ve heard.

The musicians were great and it was amazing.

I just love the way she sings in that beautiful and moving language. I think is Gaelic, but if it´s not I apologize for my lack of knowledge about it.

Anyway the song is very beautiful and Scotland more even. Maybe someday I can go there but meanwhile thank you for the share !!

  • well said

  • she does sing gealic and is amazing the best singer i have heard in a long time.

  • being born in Inverness and brought in up Wick I have to agree, i now live in edinburgh and its weird how the gealic language has faded, its actually upetting :'(

  • @brumbylover6568 i too am from inverness, and yes it is upsetting how this language was ripped from us at the hands of the english and scottish traitors. ive been learning or trying to learn our native language for ten years now, im ok at it, but im also teaching my 4 year old. i feel gaelic is back on the rise again in scotland and not just in the highlands. alba gu brath my friend Mar sin leibh an dràsda

  • @gaelscot I too have been looking for the better sources of Scottish Gàidhlig that has proven to be all too elusive over the past twenty years. My own favourite tutorial is authored my Roderick MacKinnon ("Teach Yourself Gaelic") and is out of print at this time. The newer version is offered by his son, Angus MacKinnon. Can you possibly suggest sources that would be available which would be superior to what I have mentioned? Thank you kindly in advance.

  • Beautiful.

  • divna pesma, jednostavno ostavi coveka bez daha

  • Tomb Raider Legend :o

  • @mslaracroftt except this sounds better :)

  • @calumknight1984

    nah, legend theme is better

  • Soul Captivating

  • Absolutely beautiful haunting song, and lovely slideshow to go with it. thank you

  • See Scotland and die ,you wil be forever happy and in peace in the aftermath.

  • the background music of this song, is the theme for original tomb raider.

  • But yet again, this is actually the song sung in the movie Rob Roy (right when Achibald is about to steal the 1000 pounds from Rob McGregor's merchant.) It is used in Tomb Raider Legend, but Rob Roy is the origin of this piece of music. Have always loved this song! Also have the OST.

  • It actually dates from the 1700's, I think. It was written by a woman after her husband died at sea.

  • i never been there but i guess that scotland it's just beautiful....

    pacefull and greenfull

  • I'm Spanish, I love Scotland like my own country. I feel that in another life I was a scotish.I wish to live there ...

  • Love the music, this is a haunting song which was sung in Rob Roy. The sottish pictures are great too. Brings back memories of my time there.

  • They are an inspiration to all celtic musicians. No other group can capture that hauntingly romatic image of Scotish music and culture. That is how it is, and how it should stay for ever.

  • I'm under spell of Celtic music 2...I just live with it...it's like pure water...Beautiful...

  • I must say , Celtic music has cast a spell over me

  • Thank you very much pixiekiz for sending the lyrics!

  • Kristin969 you can actually look up the lyrics and the translation on wikipedia, if you wish. The song is an expression of deep sorrow of a young woman over her lover who drowned before they wed each other.

  • I love this song. although I don't understand a word she says!

  • it's Scottish Gaelic i believe

  • Thank you very much, but can you tell the meaning or the translation on english. I would love to have the original words in Scottish Gaelic too!

If the seals are your watchmen,

Ò hì I would walk with you

    Hì ri bhò.... o hò,

Brown-haired Alan, Ò hì, I would walk with you

I would take a drink, though everyone would be scandalised,

Of your heart's blood after you were drowned.

Ò hì I would walk with you

    Hì ri bhò.... o hò,

Brown-haired Alan, Ò hì, I would walk with you
