I recently read an article about John Barnes and about this story. With all due respect to the movie "Rudy", this story trumps that one by a mile. Cannot believe there hasn't been a movie made about this. Of all the "true" sports movies I've seen over the years, this real life story of John Barnes and the roadblocks he got past to get on this stage was nothing short of a miracle. C'mon Hollywood...WAKE UP!! This is a story which needs to be told!!!
I was there! (I sat high above the corner of the end zone where Stokes scored his big ones) In my life, I have been to many big games across this country, but never...NEVER have I witnessed a more magical moment. It was as if John were somehow empowered to be - if only for 60 minutes - not only one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of UCLA, but one of the greatest quarterbacks EVER! He was Cinderella, and this was the ball. Thank you, John...wherever you are today!
I was watching this game that night, if I remember correctly, USC needed to win to make the Rose Bowl. What I remember most is when the crew interviewed Barnes after the game. He said he wasn't worried if USC scored on that two-point conversion or not--because then UCLA would have just gone out there and scored again. And I have no doubt they would have. Someone was just smiling on that guy that night...
Anyone know where I can get access to the entire video for this game? Or is there anywhere on the internet to get copies of old archived college football games? Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks!
Anyone know where I can get the full version of this game? Are archived college football games available on the internet anywhere? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.
I was sitting in the student section at this game. It was my last year in school. We couldn't believe the come back that occurred in front of us. Every one was hugging each other when we got the last touch down. It didn't matter if you knew the person. It was so awesome to experience it as a student.
We beat SC 8 years in a row in the nineties. I was there in 99 when we lost to them at the coliseum. I was in the stands though. Playing days ended the season this was played. I'm in this vid.
I was watching some of the old footage...UCLA should have won in 91, and 2000 and IMO 99. It would have been an 11 game winning streak if that happened. But I loved watching UCLA football back then. I hate USC.
okay now yes rick is back but before u start to celebrate you just lost the best d cordnator and the person who should have gotten the job oh and he was ur best recuurter and last time i checked rick neuheisel didnt recurt so well
USC got robbed. At the 5:34 mark Carlton Gray is all over the back of Curtis Conway BEFORE the ball arrives. NO CALL! Listen to that UCLA homer, Mike Gottfried say, "He's all over him" and "he's over his back." All the while saying it's a great play when it's interference all the way. Didn't USC score 37 points in this game? Nice you show all of seven.
18 years ago. I was there. In stunned incomprehension.
This will give me chills for the rest of my life.

This is a reminder that the Bruins once had
a football team. Not so much 2010.

And so the glow of love we know, may
never come again - but then - it's not
for me to say. This is better than Ezra.
I was there that day, I promise. I couldn't
believe it. Still cannot. Last touchdown.
I go back to Beban. Dummit. Aikman. This
is visual poetry.
was something from a dream.

I was there. Classes of '69 and '73, with a girlfriend who didn't
get it. She stared at me, head in hands, but little by little she
joined this beautiful poem, and cried too.

The story of John Barnes is amazing.
I'm so glad to have him in my life as the best uncle ever.

What's he up to these days?

@SynysterStudios Absolutely amazing. His story needs to be a movie...it blows Rudy out of the water.

The glow of this afternoon is still glowing. I was there
with an ex. We sat and watched what always
happens happen. Then Barnes and Stokes. It was
something unreal, unexpected, unnatural. And it
has gotten in there with the odd memories of life,
and will stay there until I am an ant farm. Barnes'
last pass to Stokes is visual poetry.

Look at the towel on the UCLA RB, WTH!
deltapunk21 3 years ago
That was the fashion back then. Maybe if you tell your little "trOJan" to stop wearing a skirt, he'll be in modern fashion.
Must I remind you that Reggie Bush had a towel? "WTH!"
Next time think before you post...
