  • esa guitarra.....esa voz.....son armonia perfecta¡¡¡¡¡

  • The first time I heard The Smiths was around 1987. A friend gave me his audio cassette and I drove all over Austin for months listening to nothing but that cassette in my car.

  • This song is brilliant! First listened to it in 1985. And now, after 27 years, it still brings tears to my eyes.....

Morrisey, my Salford lad, Love, Love Always...

  • I should actually say that, this wasn't the first single I bought in my life, but the fist Smiths single I bought! The first RECORD my dad bought me was Lola by the KINKS! I was 9.

  • This was the first single I bought! When it first came out, 83? 12 inch! And it's still wonderful!

  • marry me

  • THAT BASS, MY FUCK...

  • how can you stay with a fat girl who says OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WOULD YOU LIKE TO MARRY ME

  • i was born in the 90s but this sounds fresh

  • soo good

  • 0:18 to 0:23 is the best five seconds of music of all time. Haunting.

Please check out my music video to this song, filmed in brighton. it's in the video responses

  • The song started as went outside in the rain to walk home from school. It was really something.

  • I love this song so much.

  • i dont dream about anyone - except myself !

  • 29 people don't know nothing

  • I like the description

  • My name is William -.-

  • @williamsantosj Don't worry, it was really nothing. ;p

  • @williamsantosj Don't worry, it was really nothing. ;p

  • this makes me want to be called William..

  • @InMoyesWeTrust08 I called my son William after this song.I hope he wants it as much as you do.

  • when he grows up i meant ,clearly.

  • So was this about Billy MacKenzie of The Associates ?

  • a pox upon the dislkees,,may you choke on ur cup noodles,,,,while i gently stroke my

rare tofu al a drollo pupu...

  • Can anyone tell me the name on Johnny Marr's guitar neck?

  • @PoutinePete elvis costello

  • Probably my favorite Smiths song. Although I never want to go back to the 80s- I really miss those times.

  • Morrissey is such a cunt but his lyrics are beyond perfect!

  • @j3s0n so fucking true.

  • @j3s0n why is he a cunt?

  • @j3s0n He's a cunt.. because?

  • @j3s0n like many of the big monsters who have made us happy, big cunts

  • @j3s0n 'i dont dream about anyone except myself'

  • @j3s0n why was he a cunt? im not familiar with him other than the smiths music

  • God knows I love this, but Morrissey is a ridiculous man. xx

  • timeless musical bliss.

  • Its good audio cuz its synched up to the album version lol

  • I'm fourteen and I fucking love The Smiths. I wish they were now and not before I was born./:

  • @Chelsloo1223 morrissey is still around! i know its not the same but close enough

  • Steven=awesome

  • This song is gay and the UK is filled with fat girls.

But I do love The Smiths.

  • @CrackThoseClaws Alot of places are filled with fat girls and I don't see how this song is gay.

  • @Pezreh

He talks about his ex-boyfriend William. If he had wrote it today, I'd say it's about the royal wedding.

Well, you probably have a fat girlfriend, fucking British witches 'n' shit.

  • @CrackThoseClaws Lol, your ignorance level is outstandingly high.

I don't think I can argue with a troll, because there is just no point.. but I can say one thing.. I tend to stay away from fatties.

  • @Pezreh

Your definition of "fatties" is different. Since all of your, fat as an orc and pale as a vampire, British witches are fucking fat, you've lowered your standards. To you, the average slim girl weighs about 175 pounds.

I bet you've sang "I Love You, Fatty" to lots of girls.

  • the smiths were too advance for their time.... wish it were now!!!

  • really good audio, tks for posting

  • A progressive piece of music, the Smiths's best if you ask me, the song structure and the arrangement are so original, the harmony, the melody, the vocal and guitar phrasing and rhythm, haven't heard anything like this ever before or after

  • @bashoi1992 and all of te reverbe on those aucustic guitars, sound like swoshing air!

  • @TheReverendRaver dont bring this argument back up.

  • just a phenomenal song, mozart wouldve been proud to write this

  • Greatest song of all time?

  • For you Will. XXXX

  • Well ... I wouldnt kick him out of my bed anyways...

  • The Smiths greatest hits was the first cd I ever stole from my brother's room and played on my own when I was like... 9? And I still love this band as much today as I did that day. The Smiths is timeless. Morrissey transcends all barriers.

  • Dear Morrissey, you don't know me and you never will. You probably wouldn't like me and you certainly wouldn't marry me, but I just can't stop saying "yes" at 01:15 over and over.

  • Is it me or Johnny's got an Elvis Costello guitar signature (on the neck, 0:42 - 0:48)?

  • music hasnt got genitals.

  • Which town is he on about? It must be Aberdeen, full of fat lard arses and wife beaters.

  • WILLY EEEH HEEE HEEE HEEEEM !!!

  • this dude has the funniest dance moves ever

  • i wish this song was longer

  • I first listened to The Smiths since I was in high school back in the late 80s and listening to them has never made me want to be gay.

  • #LOL asexual is not gay!

  • @theradioramires its pathetic

  • @wuzreeelytho pathetic ???that I'm actually defending him

    !!

  • Sexuality has no relenvance in Music. Music is good or bad, regardless. The Smiths ARE EXCEPTIONAL!!!!!

  • morrissey makes me want to be gay :S

  • Kate Middleton is learning the lyrics to this in case the marriage doesn't work out.

  • @PastafarienismRulz

only reason i just looked up this song to see a comment like this...

  • @PastafarienismRulz doubt it

  • he never admitted his orientation jaja he claims he is of the 4th sex

  • This kicks Enimen arse

  • hey i hope that you like of my record!!!... thanks for upload this wonderful music!!!

  • 26 people with peculiar tastes clicked dislike....it's a wonderful wonderful world...

  • I sing this to all my friends who talk about getting married, Is that wrong?

  • @browns262 ...that is so sweet of you. your friends are so lucky to have you wake them from their stupor.

  • @browns262

sing and sing it to them!!! not wrong !!!

  • england has become such a piece of garbage, worse even than my country of the USA

  • @wuzreeelythoBoth our governments are riddled with the immovable, priveledged and sackless heirs who'll push us around until the wheels fall off. It's the only thing we have in common my new world cousin! Shame really. sad face.

  • @Moistmuscle Just like hundreds of years ago...times never really change much

  • @wuzreeelytho Agreed! (And I live in England!)

  • One of those bands that deserved to be famous.

  • @M3GreatRiffs

really hope you are not talking about the smiths here...

  • what album is this off of

  • It was released as a stand alone single in August 1984, between their albums "The Smiths" and "Meat Is Murder".

The song is featured on the compilation albums "Hatful Of Hollow" and "Louder Than Bombs" as well as other best of and singles collections.

Behind Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Smiths remain one of my favourite bands. My favourite part of this song is 0:25 - 0:36.

    The Smiths are amazing!

  • @SiameseDream4321 It's on two compilation albums. One is "Hatful of Hollow" and the other, "Louder Than Bombs"

I prefer hatful of hollow, personally.

  • i think the smiths alone make me proud to be from manchester =D

  • @PumpkinKyuubi

Make me proud to even be english !

  • thats the sound of the 80 ´s!!!

  • absolutely delightful =]

  • Best dancer ever.

  • el es buena persona, tambien el, tambien ella... la nina

  • @kenmasters831 yo poleo con gente mala...

  • @gegegerza mire la camara me pueda apagar.

    usted tiene poderes?

    si

  • Morrissey, you're a genius (alone or with The Smiths). This song is just GREAT! :D

  • Gorgeous song. This is like a jazz song, filled with 7ths, ninths, sixths. These guys were like a grooving fusion band with a ruminating crooner. Beautiful sound.

  • SMACK THE BITCH OUT, you might JUST be saving a life... The dying Swan...that's all...

  • "Strageways" is a PRISON, literally.

Kate's parents, Kate was really nothing.

Neither were the Smiths and William.

So, moving on.... do impressions of him. "eeee oooo aaahhhh". I know him from childhood, that's all I'm going to say. British Ministry of Defense..where they also "Show you" your paycheque, but "forget": to give it to you, unless.. ETC.

SAME, identical, STUPID OLD COW from the 70s.

It's unfortunate that ABC and Eden's crew didn't have to power.I had it instantly "undone" in London.

  • ha....damn...johnny marr!! johnny marr!! 'nuff said!

  • its never 2 late or 2 young my 8 year old luvs the smiths :)

  • all brits are sexually confused. Its probably due to the lack of sunlight...and lack of decent food...and constant surveillance...and the horrible dental programs...did i mention that england sucks my dick?

  • @wuzreeelytho rofl wth?!

  • @wuzreeelytho no, you didn't.

    you should have.

btw, when america comes up with its own band thats anywhere near as good as the smiths, come and tell me these things then. but i still won't listen.

  • @TheSkifflebunch I'm all about trashing America's lack of culture, but music is one thing that it can claim some significance. Without the blues, there would be no precious rock n' roll as we know it, and without the blues, your Bristish invasion wouldn't have been able to perfect pop rock, and without pop rock, there would have been no NY punk movement, velvets, or Ramnes...and without Ramones, well, I'm sure you get the point...

  • i dont give a shit johnny marr was just as good as steven thats why they brokeup ,,jelousy

  • Morrissey has said in the past that he's gay, he' s straight and he's confused.

  • Awesome lyrics. At 27, I need to get out of my hum-drum town asap.

  • morrisey looks like tin tin lost in his own world, singing in the shower

  • Man, I was born too late :'(

  • @1800555fear Man, I was born :'(, my very own existence destroys the environment that sustains all the life on the planet, that is much more significant than my own, or anybody's, by the way. And there is nothing that I can do, because the very own lifestyle that I follow and propel is cemented on thousand's of years of societal living and learning. It is practically encrypted in our DNA. To know that just by living, you are dooming the life of billions of organisms is very saddening, right?

  • is this song about kurt vonnegut's "slaughterhouse five"?

  • Aww... it's dedicated to all my ex boyfriends. Every one of them is William and ... yeah... it was really nothing!

  • Hey fellow Smiths fan, if you have 15 minutes please take a look at my MORRISSEY portrait, thanks

  • in staten island we sing this song alll the time. the other songs for some reason never catch on

  • @ThatsaCryinShame Staten Island? Lol. Hispanic much?

  • gay, schgay, a fucking brilliant lyricist is a fucking brilliant lyricist all the same.

  • 1:14 Morrissey, I thought you'd never ask. ♥

  • I remember the day I bought this album.... those were some great times...

  • i recall, at the time, this was written for billy mckenzie of the associates fame, sadly billy commited suicide a few years ago.

  • watch?v=46CNp89_52Y

  • my friend Ben loves this song and cant help sing my name like Morrisey does whenever he sees me....i dont mind hahaha

  • Johnny Marr stated in 84 than " he's had a lot of girlfriends in the past and quite a few men friends"

But Morrissey frequently say that he's asexual and that the questions about his sexuality is irrelevant to his music

  • @NationunderCMpunk It is though - someone's sexuality shouldn't stop you from listening to their amazing song

  • @codeworddope66 Honestly i don't give a fuck about Morrissey's sexuality his music and lyrics always mean the world to me since so many years....

i love him and always will

  • I first heard this in about 82 or 83 at a youth disco when i was about 14. Its still fantastic, The Smiths have given me so much joy a song for every thing. Now im an git I still love The Smiths.

  • creepy boy . . .

  • @feetforeveryone ever read what carl gustav jung wrote about the anima? I admire morrissey

  • I just watch this over and over and over again, it's bliss. The "Would you like to marry me" part is so explosive and wonderful. the whole song is so short and succeeds so much, every millisecond is essential and classic.

  • This might be the most perfect song ever written. I love the "nnooo, noooooo" part at 0:19, so beautiful.

  • please stop with this celibate/gay/asexual thing, really, and people who say they don't care if etc etc.. it is so "childish and silly". who are you to say that he is celibate, or doesn't care about sex? it is a very pesonal subjet and He is an artist and should be respected.

  • @ace342006 well said !

  • rather be gay than a thick person

  • my name's william

  • he's not gay is he? pplease tell me he's not?

  • @Jo0osh1 No he is not gay.

  • @Jo0osh1 It really doesn't fucking matter, does it? But no one really knows. He claims that he has no sexuality and a lot of the things he's said seem to hint that he wouldn't care if it was a woman or a man.

  • @Jo0osh1 I don't think so. His lyrics mention women more than men. He's celibate, no sex at all. So there you have it. I really believe he is as well. I mean especially when I think about Handsome Devil. Or then there's parts of Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.

  • witch town???

  • ...he really didnt like fat girls, did he???

  • Morrissey is Celibate and Asexual isn't he?

  • why would anyones sexuality really matter about good music. Look at Queen or Judas Priest and so on and so on. Just enjoy the what the bands produce. C'mon man. Michael Jackson played with little boys and he self proclaimed himself the " the king of pop ". He played with little kids... and for some reason no one cared about that when he passed. If you are going to have a opinion have it for someone who takes advantage of kids and not some person who enjoys another adults company.

  • This song needs to be way, way longer.

  • gay or not gay? Who cares? Great singer, great band. Enough!

  • @kishanna09 He never said he was gay. In fact, when he heard the rumours, it was news to him.

  • @AKAjocey

Morrissey is Morrissey ! how much more do you relly need to know???

  • @zansarra Uhmm what?

  • @AKAjocey well, I read that he's gay in some biographies, but let me be honest, I do not care. I think everyone has the right to live their sexuality as a better choice, and this should not affect the proceedings on the work of an artist. Do you?

    Tnx 4 your answer.

  • @kishanna09 I totally agree. Their sexual orientation does not matter. If it's good music, it's good music. :D And you're very welcome :)

  • A morrisey le gusta mostrarse xD

  • When I first heard this song, it was the only song I played for the whole of that week.

  • @reivenlocke I drive myself crazy listening to The Smiths as well, hah.

  • short and sweet like every smiths song , thats why there one of the greatest bands ever
