  • DID HE REALLY JUST DO THIS. OH MY FUCKING GOD.

  • What i don't understand is why didn't it catch on more over the years?...i mean they only made a few sequels...this thing has almost every level with a new way to play with the toads...i have to face palm myself to ask why isn't this on the 3D consoles of today?...it would be amazing...

  • I don't know how the hell you beat this. Hardest game ever made. I couldn't even beat it with an emulator with instant saving.

  • Don tknow if you guys realized, but Dark Queen was the hottest Girl in Videogames until Lara Croft lol

  • Always wondered why it was called 'Battletoads' and not 'PuzzleReflexesToads'. Seriously, need more beat-em-up in it.

  • Chuck Norris would have beaten that game the eyes closed.

  • Definitely a pretty hard game to beat, good job. My brother used to beat this game a long time ago.

  • wow...very good videos..since i was kid this game has beeing my life meaning..no i can really try to beat this..yo cant beat this game with good reflexes, you had to just remember every part's.sorry for my really bad english

  • BDSM Dark Queen :).

  • Slut beatdown.....

  • the queen is some kind of lulu from ffx look alike XD

  • 7:42 LOOK! it's a chaos emerald! oh no... it's just that fucking queen

  • I feel sorry for the Dark Queen having to climb this thing after she leaves it. You know, I bet that there is a secret elevator on the back of it, and the Toads missed it.

  • I would have fucked the Drak Queen instead haha

  • Pinchi Rahs, en lugar de golpear a Dark Queen, mejor se la hubiera cogido. I think it could be bether fucking Dark Queen instead punchig her.

  • DAMN! This game doesnt give a fuck. It will kick you in the throat with a steel toed boot that has a dog shit on the bottom of it....So now you cant breathe and you have a dog shit all over your neck....That's how hard this game really is...But thanks for posting those walkthroughs. Its been a great help.

  • Did you know that this game is catalogued as one of the top ten most diffcult games in history???? it´s awesome!!!! all the respect for this hardcore player!!! greeting from Mexico!!

  • you R like my hero ! I've never be able to get further than snake pit :( !!!

but now I feel like try again :) thanks for upload this awesome video

  • You'd think there'd be a better ending, you know?

  • this game was so difficult. but i think it has the most advanced graphics on nes

  • I bet even Chuck Norris would be scared of this game. Wait, WHAT AM I SAYING?!?!? Of course he can beat this! He's f**kin' Chuck Norris!

  • @Bittergamer1886 No dude, Chuck Norris IS the game!

  • well i think is good idea to play it again ,

  • Dude, you make 2d games more interesting again

  • wow, this must have taken years of practice - this game always boggles me, they obviously spent a lot of time and talent on great-looking and interesting levels, then made the game so hard that only 1 in 500 people would ever see them - seems like a waste of effort

  • I dont think the Dark Queen got the creaming they was lookin for

  • I loved this game!

  • dark queen retreting into the shadowy margins ofthe galaxy until the next time ...

    LETS HOPE NOT

Bravo , thx for ravenging me

  • Very well done. Now let's see it with two players ^_^

  • pop and junk FOOD, thats not partying thats like elementary school

  • @shocktreatment95 Hahahaha that's so true! Sounds super boring lol Bring out the chronic and booze! xD

  • Wow... its crazy because when I was like 7 I thought I was such an idiot because I couldn't beat this game. It was one of the hardest games ever. Amazing. Thanks, I needed this.

  • I'm actually impressed by the smooth, pseudo 3-D effect of the rotating tower that Rare was able to produce, considering that this game was on the NES.

I can only imagine how annoyingly difficult this stage (or rather, this whole game) must be to a first-time player. This guy reached the top in about 7 minutes, didn't screw up once ascending the tower, and only got hit once!

  • I congratulate you for making it past level 3.

  • Ahh Nintendo nostalgia. Wow, I never made it past level 7. Im glad I didnt, I wouldve wasted so many more hours for a lame ending. Thanks for posting this, I always wanted to see the other levels. Xbox live this game!

  • Hardest game ever, maybe

    Coolest game ever, HELL YEAH!

  • wow i remember this dang...we spent so much time with my friend beating this game. but we did it lol on 2 player mode lol!

  • It's impossible to beat on two player mode.

  • I know other 2 people from my street in Russia where i grew up, they also beat it on 2 player. We spent days and days for like a year playing it with my friend.

  • @slivovich I thought it was impossible to beat in 2 player because of the glitch on level 11 where the 2nd player's wheeler won't move?

  • That's because he's from Russia. It was the American version that bugged up on the Clinger Winger level. They fixed that on the other foreign releases.

  • ive heard that you can bypass level 11 for the second player if you just lose a continue or something like that and join in again at level 12

  • not exactly it just is insane because of falling off the screen if who your playing with isn't the same as you

  • This game is the reason of my anti-social life today. Its nostalgic and fun to watch, but it scare me when i remember how much time I spend on this game. While all my other friends were playing sports I was stuck on that worm or ic or swiming levels. Thinking well, it was not a good time...such a waste of life, i regret this. I wish I could go back in time and not to buy this game. Anyway, nice post, i enjoyed a lot watching this all over again. Thanks.

  • one of my favorite games. i wish some one made a game as challenging as this one nowadays.

  • pro work here!

    Absolutely!

  • Man, what a lousy payoff for such a difficult game. Didn't even bother to switch out of boss music. XD

Doesn't take anything away from what you've accomplished though. Awesome run. b^-^d

  • Hey nice job and thank you for posting these. I much prefer real life playthroughs over TAS speedruns.

  • you are awesome.

did you did that in one run?

there was some levels I have never seen before (haha the farthest place ive seen was the RoboManus boss and Ive never beaten him. Still, I never saw the ice and fire world :O )

good job you are a pro

  • Excellent!

You didn´t even die once on the revolution, and you gave the dark queen some bad asskicking.

  • that was the end!!! Goood Lord, such a difficuilt game deserved a much, much, much better ending... it's kinda frustrating

  • holy s**** youre the man with this game bro

  • lol now this game earns a platinum seal of aproval + a kiss on their shoes from nintendo

  • man this game was amazing for the nes. how did they get such genesis quality graphics out of the nes? any special chips built in the cartridge?

  • None that I am aware of, but considering that the game was made later on in the life of NES, Rare must have had a good understanding of the hardware.

  • DTysonator is so awesome for not using warps in this game. 5/5 for all videos.

I personally could make it to the tower but then I'd lose all my lives, usually by those guys that blow you off the side. I was always impressed by the spinning effect in the last level for an NES game.

  • It's a little bit a shame, that after all that final boss is kinda a let down, but oh well, maybe they were just tired after coding all that other awesome stuff.

  • With some more pratice, you would beat this game, jemismyfav, I have no doubts about that! Terra Tubes is pretty far into the game, you were more than half way there!

  • I really wonder how many times did you play this game. Battletoads is one of the most difficult game I've ever played.

  • Yeah, it required a lot of memorization, hotshotkiller13, but I didn't practice like I should have.

I only concentrated on the hardest levels, instead of the entire game, hence why a lot of silly/careless deaths took place in level 8.

I'm a pretty persistent gamer, so dying in any game doesn't sit all that well with me, but in Battletoads it's expected, so I allowed it to slide :).

Have you ever played Ikari Warriors for the NES by any chance? That game makes this look easy, no joke!

  • the company that made this also made BK and BT, right? what's up with the top of the tower? rare must have towertops on their minds when they make final bosses...

  • Not to sound like a dumb ass, but what does BK and BT stand for, GameMasterGuy?

Yeah, the tower is so damn big too! I often remember asking myself, "am I there yet?", it's like the song that never ends, well, not that bad, but you get the point!

  • hey man, big respect 4 ya... I remember playing that game and my adventure finished with snakes in your part 3 of walking throuugh... I broke lot of joypads

  • too many games copied that snake concept

  • Which ones, GameMasterGuy? Mega Man 3 had a snake like level from what I remember and was released before this game, so Battletoads was probably inspired by that level.

  • the only megamen i've played are the original, 2, 6, and the new one. the only time i played 6 was at my friend's house

  • Okay, I see. Check out part 3 though, I am sure that there are plenty of videos of it on here.

  • Thank you, siemasz3, but sorry to hear about the broken joypads though! :(

  • so much trouble for a ending like that...

but congratulacions you re the best guy i have seen palying this game.

i never ever past the 3º level but the game was borrowd so i did not have time to really put myself focus on it.

  • Wow thank you for the kind words, Luiscota1986! I'm not the best at this game by any means, but I'm glad that people like you appreciate the effort that I had put into this game, so thanks again :).

  • Wow, great job. I finally got to see how it ends.

  • Thank you, glad that you liked this, RedTale9!

  • i loved this game as a kid!!! u fuckin rule at this one. it took me forever just to get past the 3rd stage wit the go-carts lol. musics cool in it, graphics r cool, the animations entertaining just an all around really good game for its time- i remember this one the most out of all the games i had for nes- just hearin the music n stuff heheh, thx for postin these man, the ending SUCKED though! whats with the old games and shitty endings, spent hours getting there for 'oh no u won :('

  • Thank you, lejink, I don't know about being a ruler of this game though lol!

This game was designed to own us all until the end of time, but at least there are people out there willing to prove otherwise!

Despite the overall difficulty, I also enjoy playing Battletoads for some reason, I must love pain! :)

The ending isn't the worst thing that I've seen actually. Check out the ending to Renegade for the NES and then tell me what you think, it's pretty sad!

  • MY God, this game is harder than performing brian surgery unassisted with a blindfold on.

  • Well, I don't know about that, essej :)

  • My god, how many years. I played this game when my grandfather was still alive. He was like 90 years old, blind, and he couldn´t even move. Its funny, now I remember he memorized the music of the wind tunnel level, and always asked me, Paul?, are you playing nintengo?, tututu, tututu, tututu......

  • Man, thanks for reminding how amazing this game was and is. Like, from all standpoints, audio, level design, challenge, graphics... it should be used as a primer for all video game developers today. Include the fact that they only had the NES limitations to work with and wow, one of the best games ever made.

  • good job man i try and never got to beat this game.

  • me and my older brother played this game the moment we bought it and never came to school. we had "other" things to memorize :P

but actually he was the first one to beat it and never played it again. i on the other hand always end up at the last level but that's it, i never had the chance to tap the queen's ass :P

  • For a 8-bit game, the grapics are really good.

  • If they want an Olympic event. we've got one hear. play through battletoads.

Anyone who can beat this game without cheating and not getting a single game over should get a gold metal no questions asked. Plus there would be no performance enhancing DQ because the only way to do that would be very noticeable.

  • YES! I couldn't have beaten this game without the help of these videos. Especially that elevator part where the fans suck you in...I would have never thought to jump high to see a lot more above you..

Anyway, I have to thank you for posting your run :)

Onto Mega man 2 and Kid Icarus!

  • The best of luck to you!

  • omfg look at ur points!!!1

  • it looks cool ill buy it on ebay.

  • Freaking awesome, you should get a medal or something for beating this game. I've had this game for over 10 years now and never beat it, damn rat race always gets me. Hopefully I'll beat this soon.

  • this game is serious

  • i bought this when it first came out from k-mart. my brother and i played this game so much and even though he got close to beating it i never did UNTIL - one day i was messing with game genie or something, and got frustrated and hit the nintendo and when i restarted it I was at the final fight here ! but i still didnt beat it i dont think... ANYWAYS - this was awesome to watch

  • He actually beat Battletoads...

They need to make a seccond one!

  • they did super nintendo

  • Very good! :) The part videos continues at the beginning fight and at the beginning The Dark Queen Tower. Just like in films. There are title too at the continuing the game. Very good! :)

But how can you play without the cheats? If I play Battle Toads and I try to cross hard places then the player is going to upper. Or you can controll buttons very good? :)

  • this is a pretty impressive-looking level for an NES game

  • The "looping around tower" effect was also done in Kirby's Adventure.

  • great

  • great

  • Wow, so that's it? I can't help but feel that was so anti-climactic. For a ruthlessly difficult game like this, I was expecting the final boss to be uber cheap with devastating, screen-filling, OHKO attacks that make you repeat the entire level if you die.

Plus for beating the game, the ending should feature a half-nekked DQ on her knees begging for mercy ala Dr Wily before running away and then the producers give you a new car for the hell they put you through trying to beat their insane game.

  • Yeah, the ending is pretty lame, DarkSyde24. At least the Ninja Gaiden series offered endings that were well worth the effort :).

  • it took me damn near 13 years to beet this game... amd its the only 1 i beet my sis could not :D... think i still got it ill have to look it up and see how my skills have droped in the past few years

  • *sigh* if you hadn't made it to 999999. I would have been very, very dissapointed.

    *yay for perfectionism*

    *hasn't played the game*

  • I apppreciate your sarcasm, JonnoGradian :). Most can reach 999999 rather easily by killing the same enemies over and over again like most games, as you are probably aware of.

  • Yes, Sarcasm, I'm sure...

*whistles loudly to hides his own stupidity, then scratches his head sheepishly*

    ehehehehe

  • If he hadn't made it to 999,999, I would've been puzzled. Sheesh, never mind the difficulty and frustration, 12 levels is insanely *long* for this kind of game. You can make it through without continuing, this...nice achievement really is no big deal.

  • I can get to 999,999 before level 4 ends in the Genesis version >.>

well, 999,990 actually. They won't give you the last 9 points in that one. around 800k of that is from level 2 anyway.

  • Haha, alright you lot, you've made your point =P

  • DTysonator, how much time did you spend on this to beat this hard game?! :O i tried for years and couldn't pass the bike lvl :( hahah great job!! :D

  • Hi superdios, I played this game very little as a kid when I received it for my birthday, since I found it to be way too hard by level 3 and felt cheated.

I gave the game away in 1992 and took on the challenge of beating it twelve years later when a friend gave me a copy of the game in a trade.

I practiced many levels with the use of an emulator, memorizing where to go, so that I wouldn't have to play the game for years, since it's all basically trial and error.

  • It took me over a week to memorize the game and another week to beat the game without using a continue. I played for another week or so and recorded this play through.

My best ever run at this game was eight deaths, but this video was the only play through that I ended up recording and there are ten deaths in total.

I was about to trade Battletoads to a game shop, but wanted to have a lasting memory of it before I did so. This video turned out quite well, so I have no complaints :).

  • Thanks for the insight. It shows that even we can achieve Battletoad greatness.

  • You're welcome, mastercolling, you most certainly can achieve greatest in this challenging game!

  • I appreciate your feedback, coldasiice :). This game is pretty evil, but is still somehow fun at times, because of the cool animations and overall variety of gameplay.

Even though I didn't end up breaking any controllers while playing through this game, I did have some rather questionable things to say about it :).

Actually, my reflexes did slow down at times. This was especially apparent in Level 8 where many mistakes were made. I also got very lucky during the third rat race.

  • Yeah, Level 7 is indeed intimidating, newname42, but I am sure that you could get past this level now. Thanks, I'm glad that you enjoyed this video :).

  • I'd like to share something with you all here. The first time I actually got to the top of the dark tower I made it with 4 lives left. I managed to kill her on my last life and as she raised up to the platform to do her defeat speach I happened to be standing in the middle. She combo kiced my from full hp to nothing and it was game over. Oh that was my last continue too. Hands down my most frustrating gaming expraince ever. I'm sure the screams could be heard two towns over.

  • Wow, that sucks, Thomasuwoo! You technically still beat the game though, so you have absolutely nothing to feel bad about. The ending is nothing special as you can see.

  • Oh yes, frustration was something you had to learn to live with when playing NES games. In Poland 15 years ago even illegal cartridges were expensive as hell, so I had to play one game in a half a year and exchange with my buddies... Prices lowered with time, but only ten-maybe legal Codemasters games were released.

Three months - it took me this long to figure out how to easy-kill Butler in Flinstones... Lay these explosive eggs... ;D

  • Nice work for both of you ShinCyriades & DTysonator. Damn this game was hard!

  • Thank you, Kreep7Smoke, I'm glad that you enjoyed this :). Battletoads is definitely a hard game, but with practice it can be beaten!

shincyriades and I will continue to do our best to bring cool gaming videos to you the viewer. There are many more games in store :).

  • I was feeling the tension from knowing how frustratingly difficult this stage is! I would always get stuck near the end with that white ghost thing...how close I came to finishing this game!!!

  • Yeah, the final level is definitely frustrating, c1h9o8b0i. Even though I was fortunate enough to make it look easy, it was anything but easy. That being said, it is clearly beatable.

I actually used a poor strategy to get past that final blowing cloud and was lucky that Rash did not get blown away. We all need to have luck at times. :)

  • isn't it disappointing when the final boss is easier than everything you've already done before?

  • No, not all, TheCheezWizz :). Most players probably realized that the Dark Queen was all talk. Most villains are, especially when they do a lot of trash talking between levels.

Fat Gordon from The Adventures of Bayou Billy also comes to mind, but then again, at least he had two cyborg Double Dragon clones to back him up in case he failed.

The Dark Queen was confident that the game would protect her, but when the traps failed to kill off the toads, she had nothing left.

  • Occasionally, perhaps. Then again, given how long it is to get to this point (and with limited continues, don't forget), I think for most players it'd be more a relief than anything.

  • I'm glad that you enjoyed this video, Fegisje and that you feel as though the game looks easy with practice! It's definitely beatable, although very unforgiving and unrewarding (short ending as you mentioned).

It just takes one little mistake to die in most of the levels and so luck is often involved. However, as shincyriades pointed out, persistence is a key factor in being able to finish Battletoads. So if you really want to do this, I am sure that you will :).

  • Thank you very much! After much practice, I would hope that I myself should be able to accomplish this. Daniel T is superb for his persistence! I hope to live up to it with my own Neo Geo vids :). Perhaps after getting a hang of Battletoads, you may be able to do the same, Fegisje!

  • I hope you enjoy our other productions, as well as the ones coming soon! We promise to bring even more cool / inspirational ideas ;)

  • my head hurts after all that damn climbing, is not fair, why sooo long? but anyway good job on beating it

  • Thanks, mortalBLAST. Yeah they don't call it the Dark Tower for nothing, it's purely evil lol! I was extremely fortunate to get Rash through this level without dying, it was a fluke.

  • is dis another acoount? are you shincyriades?

  • Is this question being addressed to me, mortalBLAST? If so, yes shincyriades and I are two different people with separate accounts, working together to bring fellow gamers cool/inspirational gaming videos.

  • i see now

  • Yep, very fun, AND very hard, with cool characters. What more can you ask for in a game ^_^

  • Ahh....I played this a long time ago. This was a really good game, despite being near IMPOSSIBLE to beat. I swear, I still have nightmares from the snake level.DX

  • Yeah, I don't know exactly how I was able to tolerate this game, wespolly.

It does have a certain charm about it, with the cool characters and all, as shincyriades pointed out. However, the extreme difficulty does ruin the experience at first.

It's only once the player becomes a pro that Battletoads actually becomes a fun game. Getting to that point isn't as fun though.

  • Dude, bravo to Daniel T. Bravo. This is like...impossible looking. Hahaha bravo.

  • Thanks, xXAvatarofGuitarXx! The game definitely seems impossible, but it isn't, trust me ;).

Ikari Warriors, also for the NES, is much worse if you can believe that!

I am sure that if you played Battletoads enough that you would finish it as well. Most of it comes down to memorization and quick reflexes.

  • Yeah, I got past the first bike part like ONE time and I got demolished on the next ice level haha! Yeah NES games are mostly all rediculous, I actually just beat Karate Kid a few days ago, it's short but harrrd, haha I felt so acomplished!

  • Many NES games are over the top in terms of challenge, because a lot of the NES library consists of Arcade ports.

Yes I remember that short and painful game! The Karate Kid has some very frustrating sections. The storm area and final level are probably the most annoying sections lol, the rest is fairly simple. Nice job on finishing it, xXAvatarofGuitarXx!

  • haha thanks! Yeah, I actually beat the last level on my first try, but the Typhoon level is crazy! I also got to the last level on Double Dragon II, but died! It was terrible. haha, yeah I know what you mean about arcade games, there's a game that came out for the 64, but now on the ps2, called Winback: Covert operations. It's really like an arcade game, and it is real hard.

  • Wow great job on finishing the last level of The Karate Kid on your first try, xXAvatarofGuitarXx! The first time I got there, Daniel san got trapped between two enemies on a cliff and died a horrible death. I also remember dying because of some woman falling off the final platform when the enemies were being hit a certain way lol.

  • Heh, the game sure is tough, I'd probably have to use save states for quite a while at first, myself ;^_^

  • Well done. I don't think I ever got past that damn snake level when I played the game as a kid. It would probably be easier now with an emulator and the save state function but back in the day all I could hope for was that decent with all the life giving birds. Ending sure is a let down.

  • Thanks, Nutsaur! Battletoads does require a ton of memorization and if not for emulation I would have never been able to explore and to memorize the majority of the levels. Once I was comfortable enough with all of the levels, I believed that I would be able to finish Battletoads legitimately on the actual console without any cheating. Fortunately, everything went according to plan, despite the unspectacular ending and all lol.
