all albums signed by the band, except P. /Gifford didn't sign 1st 2 coz didn't play on them!! After sound check at the 'Venue" . Played "Echo Beach" Awsome!!!
Great editing on the video - and it is so good to find some tracks from Place without a postcard (I moved overseas, took only 20 of my 300 CDs - Place without a post card, Head Injuries and 10,9.8... are among the 20!
Seeing the oils live back then was as great as pub rock ever got. They were the best experience the thriving Sydney scene had going IMHO. Price of admission; about $4.00.
FUckkkkk . The OILS were the BOMB in the 80s , Peerless for originanlity , energy, rhythm and memorable anthems .. alas such qaulities are so rare today . Garret has chiselled out an Hitsoric Musical legacy but more poignantly iconic status in OZ! Maybe the most enduring rock band from oz of all time..Well u aslo have ACDC , INXS , Angels, Skyhooks hmmmmm ...
Peter Gifford bass player....Got that bit.....so who is the other bass player that keeps popping up in this clip on the red rickenbacker 4001???? (2.26)
You're right about the bass. I've looked and have no idea. I recognize the bass. Yes, it's a 4001 ( I have one, a 4003 and a 4001C64S). I stopped and started the clip a few times just to be sure. I don't recognize the player. Possibly a ring in? He had a hell of a mullet though!
it's funny i just tried to get into "power and the passion" (on the right) and it said because it's "owned by sony" that it isn't available in your country. WTF.
I thought their politics were asinine and juvenile, but god almighty could this band rock. I saw them back in the early 80s when they could tear a theatre apart with their energy and this song...well, anyone who isn't excited by this song needs their pulse checked. Still jumps out of the speakers today. All great musicians but Rob Hirst - all hail Rob!!
Hey guys. Stop obssesing about Peter, it was the band that made them great. Rob Hirst is one of the best drummers ever! Moginie and Rotsey on guitar, Please! They were always political and there,s not many bands around that can say that. at least they tried to make a difference.
Place without a Postcard. Magnificent album. look at how young Hirstey is WOw!! Although i was 18 & i sure aint that now!! OILS saw them at the MCG They Rocked!
@demonsbutterfly I was very surprised to read negative reviews of Place Without A Postcard. I think it's the quintessential early Oils record, and full of terrific songs. I like it more than Diesel And Dust and Blue Sky Mining. My favourite oils records are the least pop and the most impressive in terms of songwriting. Those records being Head Injuries, Place Without A Postcard, Earth And Sun And Moon, and Breathe. Sails In The Sunset and 10-1 get honorable mention for their live performances.
@demonsbutterfly I was 18 in 1981 too....many happy memories in my first year at uni listening to Places Without A Postcard whiel puffing the Magic Dragon lol
Sold out? the dudes always fuckin tried 2 make a difference! He was a member of the greens u dick! Greens dont make policy, labor do, so who will u try 2 influence?? Understand
great rock band greatest as good as any live show ive seen but pete sold out when he joined the labour party and you know it he will toe the party line now
How good would it having Pete performing at your house. Once the epileptic dancing starts through him in with the washing. Now thats thinking green!!!

Pete Garrett, the lead singer. Now a politician, holding the seat of Kensington in Sydney smoked weed with Daniel Johns, lead singer of Silver Chair.
Johns said this during an interview.
Garrett then released a media release saying to the effect that Johns was just making a joke for the benefit of the interview, to make it interesting.
Ha, Pete you're a politician. Politician is a synonym for liar.
