There is no comparing the 2 Failure was a one of the most under rated bands of the 90s producing music that still holds up today. Paramore is a run of the road pop rockband, they do what they do well but they are in no way close to the brilliance of Failure
I had a dream last night that Failure got back together and I went to two of their shows... to my great disappointment my alarm clock rudely awakened me from this amazing dream.
i still love this song and album! i saw and met ken andrews in long beach at a record store..he did some songs, afterwards i talked to him and told him that magnified blows my mind and how much i loved his work....he was a mellow/nice guy.
Paramore covered them because they liked them .....anyone who likes Failure or ken Andrews is OK in my book . My only regret is that I have never seen Failure live.........and BTW they have the best Depche Mode cover ever.
This song is the essence of the 90's. It was a different time for sure with Failure and Ken Andrews leading the way in creative art and music. My life wouldn't be the same without Failure.
@kilpatk Very much so! Many fans of Hum are also fan of Ken Andrews (and his bands), and vice-versa. If you like Failure (and Hum, for that matter) check out Year of the Rabbit, another of Andrews' bands. It has that distinctive "signature sound".

@HumanJarv If you listen to the demos for Comfort, or any of their pre-label songs, it is indeed fretless. Actually, on the DVD Greg specifically mentions Mick Karn as an influence for that sound!

I've always loved Failure and didn't know Paramore covered them until today. As for Paramore, I found their debut album to be an interesting if uninspired listen, but did grow tired of them quick - no knock on them, just not something I grew to like personally. Cool that they'd pick a Failure song to cover though.
I first got into Failure when I heard their "Enjoy the Silence" cover after buying the Depeche Mode tribute album (for the Rammstein song at the time lol)

Yeah, they totally bring a lot to the table. Technical music, original melodies, memorable songs (by memorable I mean forgotten in 2 or 3 years and their former fans left to say "Who?" when their music is mentioned in the future).
They are one of the more durable buzz bands and will fade away into non-existance as nothing more than a blemish on the progressive history of music.

The difference with Failure is that they never achieved the level of success they deserved in the first place. Paramore's got nowhere to go but down. If you're gonna cover a song, at least add a different element or feel to it rather than recycling the exact same thing. A Perfect Circle did it the right way.

Haha! I've been thinking the same thing. I hate that band (Paramore), but I gotta say they have a penchant for covering ridiculously good songs. I just don't understand how a band with so many great influences can sound so flimsy at the end of the day (again, Paramore...not Failure).
Maybe it's just me, but I wish they would have included the drum intro at the beginning of the track instead of tacked to the back of Wonder Life. That drum intro just sets up the song for me. Love it!

Also I never said I didn't like them and I never said they weren't credible. Stop making assumptions. Also, no, their "melodies" aren't original. Nothing about them is. That's why they don't contribute to the progression of music whatsoever. Try and become more learned about music before just looking like a knuckle dragger.

'progression of music', since when was that what we were talking about? I said Paramore are a good band, they make music I like.. to be honest it's not technical & some of it isn't the most imaginitive but they've written some damn good songs that are original.. & in terms of 'memorability'.. that doesn't count for much... especially if you asked most people who Failure are... pretty redundant point there...

@HumanJarv I said Paramore didn't bring anything to the table of music. You argued otherwise, therefore decided to uptake my arguement on whether or not they added anything to music or not. Dumbass.
Paramore have been doused with media exposure and whatnot; Failure wasn't. Paramore are a generic buzz band who rely on the shallowness and simpleness of their fans to sell music. People haven't heard of Failure in the first place so how can they remember them? You're so unbelievably short-sighted.

Couldnt have said it better myself, you hit the nail on the head my friend. There are tons of unoriginal bands like Paramore around, they'll soon fall into the trash heap of forgotten music.
The difference with Failure is that they never achieved the level of success they deserved in the first place. Paramore's got nowhere to go but down. If you're gonna cover a song, at least add a different element or feel to it rather than recycling the exact same thing. A Perfect Circle did it the right way.

@Backlit91 I'm going to have to disagree. I mean Paramore obviously had good inspiration i.e failure.
I'm a Paramore fan so maybe i'm a bit more biased. but now i've been introduced to more music and i really appreciate it. You act ike it's their own fault for being big. theyve only done what every band does now that we're in the 00s.
It's not the same anymore. there are different ways to success.
The industry is obviously not the same anymore, we just have to deal with it?

@HumanJarv Are you one of those people who is thick enough to think that music is purely subjective? There is a reason that some bands are hated by most and vice versa. There are formulas to it, techniques to making it. The fact that you think technicality isn't needed to advance something just tells me that you blatantly haven't got any sort of analytical skills whatsoever.

And I don't get why you have so many thumps down .... I have to admit that I got to know Failure because of a cover (not Paramore though) and now I really love them. As long as these bands don't claim it to be their songs they can cover whatever they want. Failure rocks!!

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic... Oh well, it's their loss, I appreciate the cover & got into Failure... I don't care if some arsehole on the internet doesn't think Paramore are this or that.. I'm the one who comes off better, I get to like a new band ;)

@rhythm013 In case you haven't heard it, Emotron's cover of "Undone" is actually far, far worse than Paramore's "Stuck on You." It sounds like it's parodying overuse of autotune.
Be sure to check it out if you want to hear even more sacrilege against this band.

@rhythm013 A cover is a sign of respect, it also helps the younger generations learn about this and many other bands... plenty of times have i discovered great bands via TV Commercials, Videogames and Covers : )
If you don't like the covers just listen to the originals

Haha! I've been thinking the same thing. I hate that band (Paramore), but I gotta say they have a penchant for covering ridiculously good songs. I just don't understand how a band with so many great influences can sound so flimsy at the end of the day (again, Paramore...not Failure).

Maybe it's just me, but I wish they would have included the drum intro at the beginning of the track instead of tacked to the back of Wonder Life. That drum intro just sets up the song for me. Love it!
