Russia stopped the war not because USA or EU put a pressure on Russia, but because Russia didn't want to look like an invader. You will see late that Russia hasn't finished with Georgia. Russia will sort out Georgia in a diplomatic way. And the reason why USA & EU can't put a pressure on Russia is because they need Russia in solving the problem with Iran.

umm, we did take Iraq, now we're just propping up the government so we can leave. Russia had enough problems in Chechnya, supposedly part of their own country, suffering over 10,000 casualties to get back their own land! The US has toppled two sovereign nations Iraq and Afghanistan and put in a new government and have suffered less than 5,000 casualties. Georgia has shot down Russian jets for Christ's sake, I don't think the US has lost 1 jet in combat.

Russia stopped the war not because USA or EU put a pressure on Russia, but because Russia didn't want to look like an invader. You will see late that Russia hasn't finished with Georgia. Russia will sort out Georgia in a diplomatic way. And the reason why USA & EU can't put a pressure on Russia is because they need Russia in solving the problem with Iran.

I don't think it's fair to blame the USA for this. I think it is highly likely that the Georgian president became a bit big headed and thought Georgia was a match for Russia now that they had some ties to the USA.
This entire thing could have been avoided without any bloodshed or death if Georgia had just given the southern region that wanted seperation what they wanted.
In Canada we have a French province who wish to seperate. If a majority of them vote yes, they are free to go. That is fair.

I'm Russian. My parents and grand parents (all Russians) had a lot of Georgian friends. I even remember them when I was small. Georgians were very friendly and nice to Russians. We were FRIENDS. My father enjoyed coming to Tbilisi. The situation changed and became worse as Saakashvili became a president. I know and i believe that it's not Georgian people who want to fight. You are right about staying out of the conflicts of other countries, and yes, I agree that the U.S has not stuck to that golden rule very well in some cases. But we do have to take notice when the Russians start meddling in a Georgian internal affair, especially given Russia's actions with their natural gas, and the fact that Georgia also has that precious pipeline.
