  • FINALLY SOMEONE WITH COMMON SENSE!! And I thought I was the only one to realize this. Hey can any other Ubuntu users tell me how he set up the press a key snap feature? It'd be much appreciated. Good video overall though.

  • @albinocalculator: it's called "Tile" in the Compiz Settings manager. If you don't see it there you may have to install the "compiz-fusion-plugins-extra" package.

  • nice vid!!! :D Linux ROCKS!!!!!

  • I just love Linux, it is fast, secure, FREE, productive, user friendly. And no defrags, no registry cleaners, no anti-virus, no blue screen, and it is the most customizable OS out there. I have been on a computer (windows 95) since age 3 and for the longest time I have learned and tweaked and crashed with windows (95-98-2000-Xp-Vista-7) Like everyone else I hated vista. So I tried Ubuntu. When the beta of 7 came out, I tried it & it IS better, but after 3 weeks, I switched back to Linux

  • Yeah, if Microsoft's goal with Vista was to make something so bad that anything after seem better they have achieved there goal.

  • Yeah, no kiddin'

  • Don't get mad at Microsoft for being great manipulators. Everyone just needs to understand that they are not in the software or engineering business. They are in the licensing and marketing business.

Just like McDonalds isn't in the hamburger business. They are in the real estate business and they sell "happy meals" to get people around so the land values go up. They own more real estate than the Catholic church.

Or something like that. Lol I haven't quite figured it all out yet.

  • nice video. but windows users are to scare that they don't know how tu use linux. but its really easy, 2 weeks and you can do,almost whatever you want to do

  • you wanna relly get heated over microsoft? look up the microsft best buy training material and read what they are teching salsemen aginst linux and mac. all bold face lies. every bit of it. windows is fine but i think they have to lie and play dirty to get customers.

  • Trust me, I saw and I know. MS is losing there grip and there scrambling to stay afloat. Linux isn't there biggest threat though. It's Google and they Know it. Luckily Google is Linux Based from the ground up. There would be know Google if there was know Linux.

  • I am not stupid!

  • You are a stupid

  • ok, thanks.

  • Most Windows Programs won't run in Linux, but Linux should have it's own software to replace it for free. If it's Video games you want to run, you can check out WINE. Most games will run under it. I though I think WINE is a security risk.

I did a search on the two peaces of hardware you mentioned. From what I read, they both work, but take a little setup to get going. But, all the post I read on the to peaces of hardware were a few years old, so they may be easier to setup now.

  • The great thing about Linux is that you can try it with out committing. You can Boot it from a CD or Flash Drive without installing it. But, I would suggest installing it to really give it a try. You can install it next to Windows and do a duel boot.

  • But, give it time. I was a big Windows user. For years I wanted to try Linux. I would play with it for a day or two then go back to Windows. About 4 years ago, when I switch, I installed Linux and told myself that I would not use Windows for 2 weeks. After the 2 week I never looked back.

(Man I wish they gave more space to comments ) :)

  • Yes, feel free too.

  • Could not agree more with this video, 5 stars!

  • Windows 3.1 had tiling.

You should just use your os and leave others alone. I use linux for the back end (firewall, proxy server) but would never use it as a desktop because of horrible driver support and install/compile/dependency nightmares.

  • This is just ridiculous. Linux supports more Hardware then any other OS. Do your research. Dependency are installed by default with you package manager. The point of this video is to inform people. The only reason to still use Windows is because you don't know you have other options. These is not one thing proprietary software can do that FOSS can't. But, I can go on and on about what FOSS can do but proprietary can't.

  • If Windows 3.1 had tiling, what happen to it, and why are they acting like it's knew now?

  • love <3 ssh

  • faved, rated, and subbed. XD

  • Same here

  • lol, every one should do it XD

  • To creator of video

You are nitpicking in this video. Especially the whole program crash letter deal. Really stop being a dumbass. Its just a commercial and its OBVIOUS Microsofts developers don't want to make a program that crashes. Shit happens, things are flawed.

  • faved and subbed :D

  • Just to clarify a couple things. In Compiz there is:

    - Expo, which is used to show all your workspaces,

    - Scale, which can be used to show all windows in a workspace, all windows in a group, and all windows in all workspaces

    - Show Desktop, which will move all windows into corners to expose the desktop

On OS X, these features are all provided by Exposé. Also, as far as I know there is no tiling feature for OS X.

  • agree

  • haha, your so funny. I just love how you through out insults, but don't use any facts or logic to back up what you say. Thanks for the input. It's great to know that Linux users are retarded since Linux is created by it's uses I'm surprise it even boots. It's great to know that your a graphic designer. That means that so much when it come to showing you know so much about software and programing.

  • GIMP does not suck. facts are necessary when you are trying to make a point, other wise you just sound like an idiot. I'm talking technology here. a few years ago most photographers said they would never go digital, Now almost all of them are. Just because a graphic designer says GIMP sucks doesn't mean crap. I'm not saying that GIMP is Photoshop. If you want to use photoshop, use it. That isn't the point of this video. The point is to inform people of there options.

  • i too would like to know how to do that tittling into 4 spaces,

i already look in synaptic/ubuntu pakage search but there only for jaunty , and dont wonk on karmic

  • it didnt work for me because i need to update,,,,,,

    sudo aptitude compiz-fuzion-plugins-unsuported

  • yes , very informative, and nice hook on the tittle

i will also post on my social net

  • lol at anti windows rant.

I like how you titled this video so people searching for windows 7 couldn't find it.

  • Greate Video!!

I just wonder how you configured that scaling/titaling :o (I don't mean the scaling-plugin ;) ). Can you tell me which plugin you configured for that?

  • Not sure what distro you are using. But, it may be in this package "compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported" Which is not installed by default. once installed it will show up in your compiz settings window.

  • I use Ubuntu 9.04 and I have the unsupported plugins ;)

But I don't know which plugin you are using for this :/ I like this feature but i only get the way with tiles (don't know if this is the english word for the plugin - sitting in Germany here ^^)

    Thanks btw ;)

  • With the unsupported plugins installed (along with the compiz settings manager) you should find both the Scale and the Tile plugins under Window Managment.

  • Yeah, got it now - but I have always some space between the windows and that sucks a little bit ;/

  • loL thanks i cracked up

  • Yes it is!! ,, it is the same here in Sweden!! I hate it i am using Debian 5 amd64 ,, everything works as i want it flash, movies, openoffice i can use everything i need on my linux computer.

  • oh i just rated 5 and favorited it and put it on facebook :D:D outstanding video :D:D

  • Thanks, I was afraid that I was so frustrated with Microsoft that I would end up just babbling on. Which I did at moments. But, I got my point across.
