Am I the only one who find the the Bugatti ugly? Yes, everything about it just screams "excess", the engine's horsepower, the interior, the price, but then the body looks like a rounded off 2002 Mercury Cougar.
One observation I have to make about the Veyron is that it may be faster in a straight line, but they haven't tested the McLaren through corners as far as I can tell.
Also I think the Bugatti doesn't look nearly as pretty as the McLaren.

Despite the fact that if I won the Powerball tomorrow one of the first things I would do is buy a Mac F1 and fulfill a boyhood dream (I would also pick up a Porsche 959), there is simply no denying technology has come a long way in 20 years (wow, the Mac really is 20 years old) and that the Bugatti is the pinnacle of how far that technology has come.

You can buy a beat up F1, send it to McLaren, and they will strip the whole car down to bare chassis and rebuild it from the ground up with either a rebuilt engine or a brand new engine and updated electronics and suspension.

They compared the racing version of it , like u said.By the way that is called a McLaren F1 LM.It has around 680 hp compared to the normal one who has "only" 627 and it's also lighter. They should of compared the F1 LM with the Ferrari FXX to be a fair comparison.

there was a limited edition version of the mclaren f1 that had more power that would beat the bugatti in a drag race i think there was only 5 made so i dont think we will be seeing that battle anytime soon
@shredmaster100 i think thats the LM you are thinking of it had like 48bhp more than the standard f1 but was a little slower in a stright line, but owned the corners. i think some people seem to overlook the f1's ablity to be an everyday roadcar but also what the racing versions accomplished in Le Mans.
Well, the Mclaren f1 was such an advancement for it's time, Nothing compared. These days the veyron has competition such as the Ultimate Aero (and soon to be Tuatara), The Hennessey Venom Gt etc. It just proves how much ahead of the times the Mclaren was compared to what the Veyron is now.

Plus the suspension isn't exactly superb on track corners, although the ride is smoother on public roads. Also never tell me i don't know shit about cars.
F1 still wins IMO. The Bugatti needs 4 turbochargers, ~1200 bhp just to have set the record, and the car is 4WD and it weighs as much as an small SUV. The F1 has around half that bhp, and it is normally aspirated, and it comes close to the record. PS, I ca't wait until the Agera R will shit all over the Veryon when it gets it's speed tested properly.

This test is purely for entertainment purposes. In a real race the Veyron will never see the F1s taillights.

Though the Veyron did have a fairly pedestrian start, I think the only thing this video proves is that in terms of pure performance, the McLaren is just as good as the Veyron at real world speeds, and definitely way ahead of it's time. It does more with less, and is probably more fun to drive.
Why people treat the Bugatti like it is a God? Its ugly for one and it doesn't win in every race it goes in. When I look at Nurburgring times all I see is Porsche's and Ferrari's. The Bugatti has a time of 7:25. A Porsche has a time of 7:03 and it is a V6! Porsche>Bugatti.

But those were racing cars tuned and built especially for the track, and while both are street legal, neither of them is good for a nice drive. The Bugatti has comfort, and could beat either of them in a flat out drag race. Personally, i don't like the veyron, i think it's ugly, but I do respect its engineering perfection.

Also, I repeat, the Veyron used there was a standart, untuned veyron, while the Porsche was one made especially for racing. Also, the bugatti is VERY luxurious. I don't think it can beat anything. The Aventador, Atom, McLaren MP4-12C and Pagani huayra can all blitz it round a track. But it is still a marvel of engineering.

liking something doesn't change reality, hammond didn't launch the car properly and probably eased up a bit to make it a fun race to watch, because by all rights the veyron has it beat from 0-400km/h+ unless something was slightly wrong with the car, or something was tweaked with the F1.
I think i'd still want the mclaren. Just for the nostalgia. Someting about the veyron makes me think of asshole oil princess who live in spastic luxury while the rest of their country starves.

I'd take a Mclaren F1 over a Bugatti Veyron ANY DAY for all time.
F1 is So much more sexy and beautiful looking, the Veyron is frankly ugly as hell.
Who cares if the Veyron can beat it by a couple of MPH at top speed, no one would EVER be able to drive any of these cars at top speed.
You have to do it on special test tracks and you'd almost run out of fuel before reaching that top speed.

Yeah, I'm sure Hammond is a good driver by the standards of the average motorist but given the fact The Stig is tasked with the most difficult driving on the show is it unfair to assume he may be a somewhat superior driver to Hammond?
It isn't just about the car it's about how the car is driven.

Bugatti Veyron - 0-60mph = 2.5 seconds ... 0-200km/h = 7.3 seconds ... 1/4 mile = 9.9 seconds
Mclaren F1 - 0-60mph = 3.2 seconds ... 0-200km/h = 9.4 seconds ... 1/4 mile = 10.8 seconds
liking something doesn't change reality, hammond didn't launch the car properly and probably eased up a bit to make it a fun race to watch, because by all rights the veyron has it beat from 0-400km/h+ unless something was slightly wrong with the car, or something was tweaked with the F1.

I myself used to think that mclaren was the best but the veyron well It lost here coz of richard, accept it
veyron not only has a higher top speed but accelerates much faster as well + it has got loads of comfort and tech as well, it is the most comfortable car to be in, in the mclaren one has to use headphones to communicate not in the veyron, n it can do 253mph even after a couple of decades, it is designed to live for decades n still max..

the mclaren is stil the fastest porduction car. The bmw v12 on it is naturally asporated...the bugatti is the fastest production car with forced induction...4 turbochargers

@juancho939 I thought I had read somewhere that the McLaren F1 had a supercharger. I was wrong, though. But I do know something about cars. Enough to tell you that the McLaren is the fastest naturally aspirated car, but it doesn't have the best naturally aspirated engine. You see, Ferrari's F355 had 107,3bhp per litre, against McLaren's 103,4bhp per litre. Just for you to take it easier when posting a comment. ;)
