TO ANYONE WHO STILL HAS THIS ISSUE. Sony has acknowledged this as a known issue. Bring it in or call them up to get a replacement fan. I did this almost a year ago and still no issues since. Fan works great.

i absolutely love my vaio, but i hate the fan noise. ive had it replaced once already for free because it is under warranty, and im thinking about calling them again and having it replaced one more time before my warranty runs out. the noise gets so bad especially when im sitting in a classroom and it is really quiet in the room. but other than that i wouldnt trade my vaio for the world

Come to think of it, we chose to buy Sony for its style and quality and yet in return this DMAN annoying sound. Worst is, the service centers sucks!!!!

I have the same problem with my 3 months old VGN CS325J. Loud annoying sound coming from my laptop, must be the fan, am pretty sure of it. The noise is somewhat like a vaccuum and it goes for 2-5 secs. in a regular interval.

Hope anyone could give us a clear photos on how to clean the fan or open the back cover and clean the fan by ourselves.

OMG!! I have the same problem it is very disapointing being that this my first personal computer!! I have the VGN-CS32OJ in pink and the noise wasnt bad the first month and a half but it keeps getting worse! I got mine from best by with a protection plan but that only goes so far UGH!! I am very disapointed but i'm glad i'm not the only one with the problem.

Faulty fan motor..KNOWN Sony defect. You must have Sony repair. WARNING: Back up files before repair. I got my VAIO back and Sony corrupted the op system, apps Word, Excel and printing. A system restore has to be done and apps reinstalled...total nightmare!!! I want my money back..Sony defers to warranty and Sony Centre retailer to guarantee. Only after 2nd repair can I get an exchange..after 3rd, a refund. DON'T BUY SONY..tell your friends and file a complaint to consumer protection agency!!!

got CS180 and facing same issue, i m so annoyed now after reading full list of same complaint, i even talked to the technical guy available online at Vaio service center, he simply asked me to bring my pc to any nearest sony vaio service center and get it checked physically, there is no service center in pakistan:@ where should i go!! he didnt even bother to mention that it is manufacturing fault!! they suck... as well as there after sales support!

bought a cs31s/v + 9300m & fan sucks (slurp)!

1. gpu-z checking temps = 47C°/117F° 10 min. after booting, idle! gpu from 580mhz (100%) yet to 100mhz automatically with pre-installed driver. fan could start at 50C°...

2. trying GF 191.03, it does NOT help (in terms of 2d-clocking) & you will get (well, I got) into trouble with that Fn+F5/F6 brightness stuff.

3. tried rivatuner: does NOT help. it does not override default geforce driver settings (2009-09).

All right guys, after i emailed sony about my dissatisfaction on my cs16g. They finally admitted they have a manufacture defect on CS and BZ series laptops. Please check your local sony website for the announcemnt, sony offers an extra 1 year warranty for cs and bz.

Mine started to make the same noise after 3 or 4 months of usage and just yesterday it started to get even louder! And the computer started to shut down whenever it feels like it. I don't get it. I guess sending it in to get the fan replaced isn't really worth it since the noise will just come back again. Does anyone have any permanent solution for this??

I have a vaio vgn cs-190 and it makes a lot of annoying grinding sounds. I got he fan replaced for free while it was under warranty. But then the problem just came back . So maybe it has nothing to do with it breaking or being dirty, it is just a defect.

I was so annoyed that I decided I would not buy a vaio again. I am not impressed. I payed more to get the best quality, and I got this annoying sound. It is not worth the extra money. I think I will switch brands next time.

Yeah my Vaio started making the same noise at first too. It went away but then came back even bigger, and I had to send it in to get it fixed. The same thing started AGAIN recently. I think the fan's almost broken now because the laptop's heating up more than usual.

its ordinary for the fan to run to prevent overheat but not like that... same problem recently but thanks God its run smoothly again like new.... All you need is to open the laptop check the cooling fan which attached in the cpu chip. You still lucky you never experience like i did my sony vaio vgn-cs120 shut down itself coz its not normal run. Thanks for the help of my friend technician all i need is to open the laptop unscrew and cleaned the cooling fan and i put a little grease in the fan...

VGN-CS190 here - same noise on stopping the faster fan speed.. sometimes a little louder - and vibrates a bit on the left hand. It also makes a higher pitched rattle on the slower fan speed.

I wondered if it might be a result of pressure from the left hand but this happened within a day or two of getting the laptop. Of course the worrying aspect is whether it means the fan is about to die, but it does seem this is a common issue which doesn't impede laptop life. I'll just pretend it's purring!

u got to also remeber tho its like having a desktop in your lap, it will have some fan noise. I mean only reason u dont complain when we have desktops is cause its in a mini cupboard or far away from your monitor to have a quiet time. but since the processor etc and fan sis all loading under the keyboard etc gonna be hard to aviod much of. Im hoping to buy a cs215 and hopefully it will be barable? i havent seen many people complain about this model so im hoping!

oh no its not annoying at all. It gets a little louder when its on High Performance mode, but u get used to it really fast. The keyboard is amazing, has the best feel ever, and it runs pretty fast too. The camera is pretty good, the AV mode and Music Box program is really cool too. Hahaha.., I have to say I got my HP Pavilion. A DV4 model. But im a bit dessapointed. I have a old old acer Aspire 3000 Laptop. Runs on Xp, I bought it with 256Mb DDR Ram, it was runing slow. Someone advised me to instal 2Gb DDR Ram, I did. My HP DV4 has 4DDR2 ram, with a blablabla x2 duo mobile procesot, runs on Vista but my old Acer is fasterrrrrr. Someone told me, because of Vista making the system slow. But it runs Vista 64bit and cannot be downgraded to Xp. :(

I'm fed up with mine. The fan noise is back even after reoiling it solved it for about a week. How the fan is designed, it allows the oil to leak out. Reoiling it cured it 100% but only for a short period of time. I'm using it now and the buzzing is annoying every 10 seconds when the fan goes on and off. To add to it, my caps lock light is dead. I'm selling this and buying a HP mini 2140.

for anyone with this issue, i have a potential fix. i've been through 3 fans and all had the identical noise. the third time, a tech was sent to my house and after the fan still would not stop creaking, I tried disassembling the fan assembly, pulled out the fan and fan-spindle, and put a drop of 3-in-1 oil in the hole. so far, the fan buzzing is gone and the fan overall is a little quieter. my guess is that sony's batch of fans for this model didnt have enough oil.

ha mine does this too. i've sent it in twice. sony says they are aware of the problem and have issued a new fan that will solve it...hopefully that works, because other than this weird noise, this is a GREAT computer! so fast and a beautiful display, and just really great. stupid fan.

just called geek squad this morning. they said they found no obstructions in the fan and the only other option is to have it sent to sony. only risk is them saying it doesn't affect operation and send it back as is.
