I remember this interview. The phrase that stuck out for me was (sorry I have to paraphrase) was that we have short-term problems and long-term problems. Short term problems were things like the economy. Long term problems were the fact the Sun's going to run out of hydrogen. It was one of the most persuasive arguments for pure scientific research I've ever heard. I wish I could quote it verbatim. I also remember a woman in the audience saying she believed in the Bible, specifically King James'.
