OOOOO god....this album was and still a first class in that kind ! Love this voice and musical arrangments...one of the best thing in the 80'...Porcaro on drums...guitars rock mix with some funky bass ....subtiles vocals WELL Unique sound ! 10/10

I have been trying to figure out who sang this song for YEARS! I was beginning to think it was a figment of my imagination! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
Absolutely! I always loved the Blue Eyed Soul/Jazz/Pop that came out of the UK during the 80s -- i.e. Yuppie Pop! Love & Money will always be a fav, along with Curiosity Killed The Cat, Go West, Living In A Box, Waterfront, Pride + Politix, Millions Like Us, Level 42, etc., etc. . . .
To whoever posted this-THANK YOU! I saw this video approximately twice back when it was first, and I've spent the last 20+ years trying to find it again (turns out I had the name of the band slightly wrong).
In any event, just as great as I remember it being. Nice to know I didn't hallucinate it's existence. And now I can watch it as often as I want!
Brilliant band and James Grant's a brilliant songwriter and guitarist. I've got all their stuff including the 12 inch and CD singles with extended mixes and non-album tracks plus a couple of acetates including I think an unreleased mix of "Candybar Express". Saw them at Newcastle Upon Tyne Polytechnic in the 80s and have some nice colour slides of Grant from just in front of the stage at the gig, though it was hard to get there to take em.
Wow I had no idea? I never knew that Bobby Paterson had past away, I met him at a Boston night club after the show, what a nice guy we must have talked for a good 20 mins, I'm Glasgow born living in Boston so i was excited to talk to a home slice! So sorry to hear of his death. does anyone know ho he died?
I don't think that James Grant, good though his solo material is, ever bettered his best Love & Money material, such as this, "River of People", Jocelyn Square", Love & Money" etc. Saw them live at Newcastle Upon Tyne Polytechnic 1977/78 where they were truly awesome. I have a few nice colour slides and photographs from that night - I was so keen I took two cameras. I wish I've taken a tape recorder as well like I did for Jonatahn Kelly in 1975.
Absolutely TIMELESS! POP PERFECTION with loads of chops and soul! I have this CD from way back when. I need to wipe off the cobwebs and give it a spin again. I LOVED this band then, and I still love them now!
Oh. My. God. I worked in a record store in the 80s and loved this record. Saw them lve in a small club and they sounded fantastic. It had been years and years...you don't suppose YouTube would have it? Nah. Wow.
Well, smack my ass and call me Judy!!! Another reminder of how current pop music sucks... bass line, drums, guitars, singing, everything works and creates that special feeling of 80s. 20 years old song and all I cany say is pure quality.
Does any one know where I can buy a copy of this song? I have searched all over for a download of Halleluiah Man. Any help would be greatly thankful for.
I worked in a shop in Cockburn Street Edinburgh selling jeans when someone from the record company or associated walked in. They wanted the shop to play the next album from a band called ...Love and Money, being a fan of the Candybar Express and their 1st album I agreed but it would cost a tape for each of the staff which was duly agreed, a week later he returned and asked for my thoughts and with passes for the gig in Edinburgh that night.
I well remember that there were min five vids on heavy rotation on sky channel in 1989. Pls post one of those beside halleluiah man, jocelyn square, cos strange kind of love is really one of my fav recored ever. Tkx for posting.
I too had the Album "Strange Kind of Love" Every song a Gem!Hadn't a favourite cos I loved them All!!!Oh, the Eighties were so brilliant Music wise, anyway!!!
After so many years they are still one of my absolute favourite Band! I'm listening to the albums "strange kind of love" and "dogs in the traffic" almost every 2 weeks!
Guau! great, enormous, best, amazing, mesmering song! one of the best bands ever. It was 1989 when i went to Europe, in Madrid i bought this beautyful record. Since then im a big fan of L&M
Great song, takes me back a few years! I too would love to see the Strange Kind of Love video, one of my favourite songs ever. I used to have the Strange Kind of Love album on cassette (that's showing my age) but never got round to getting it on CD. Managed to find a compilation album, Cheap Pearls and Whisky Dreams, that's got most of their good stuff on it. Good luck on finding it though, just seen a copy on Amazon going for £60!!!
Do yourself a favor and track down a copy of this entire album. Features Jeff Porcaro on drums, and I believe it was produced by Gary Katz of Steely Dan fame.
Great video and song. First saw the video in the late 80's on VH1 and I was hooked. Great CD, and my question is the same as the last post - Where's a video of "Strange Kind of Love?"
Thanks so much for posting this, been a fan since their first relase and Nick Taylor of Duran Duran signing them.
This has to be the finest British band never to get the recognition they so rightly deserve. Please, anyone, post any more tracks by these guys! Their album 'Strange Kind Of Love' is an essential part of anyone's collection!
strange kind of love was a superb album, especially the track the shape of things to come. their debut was good too, but was let down by some pretty tinny production. Same as War by U2...great album, crap production
One of the best saw them years ago with Hipsway, Strangers and Brothers and latterly with 1/2 of Hipsway who called themselves Witness .Another top band.
agree with gillianseed wholeheartedly. J G is brill guitarist and lyricist
Daymn! I thought this song was LOST. I clearly definitely remember the chorus and the video in Japan. I forgot about the band. 19 years later it's found WOOHOO!!! So freakin' cool!!! I was wondering where the hell this song was all these years. Thank you fery1 !!!
And you should read who appears on their album, Strange Kind of Love. You would be very surprised.
"The 1988 follow-up album Strange Kind of Love (which featured Toto's Jeff Porcaro on drums following the departure of Kerr) was overseen by Steely Dan producer Gary Katz." I read an interview that states that Donald Fagen plays a small role in the album as well.
thank you who ever posted this brilliant song in. the frist time i seen them it was in the glasgow school of art. i fainted for the first time in my life and it was jim that brought me round i can not beleive i am listening to this thank you very very much.xx
One of the most underrated bands/albums of the late 80's. Even though the 2nd Summer of Love/Madchester kicked off the year this came out,it was still essential listening for me. Follow up "Dogs in the Traffic" also brilliant. RIP Bobby Paterson.....
Elegand production by Gary Katz(classy Steely Dan!)on drums exact Jeff Porcaro from Toto and patron of band Andy Taylor(once again ex-Duran Duran?).Title singel was Nr.45 UK Chart before 18 years-unbelievably..
It's so good to see that there are still people who appreciate the talent of this band.Holygasoline is perhaps right about the best music being for the minority to enjoy. My first dance on my wedding day with my beautiful wife was walk the last mile. it's certainly more original that Whitney Huston.......
The B side of this was a song called Wanderlust II problably the most under rated recording in the history of popular music. Its on their greatest hits album "cheap pearls and whisky dreams" awesome!
totally agree, saw them at newcastle poly in '86 they were superb, i got record signed, band really nice, james grant true gent but the bass player would not give time of day to me and was up his own rectum, very unpleasant and he made loads of screw ups and was worste player in band. Andy pawlak supported them, alas another talent that fame eluded... They appeared on a great show called melt down, be great if anyone has that to upload
Hi Derek in responce to your comment reply to my ranting re Bass player Bobby Paterson.Maybe he was having an off night(we all have them ),just at the time they were my idols and i felt deflated i guess.. Sadly in researching the guy dicovered he died last year after a short illness aged 49.Apologies if my comments offended anyone im sure he will be sadly missed by close friends and family. His playing was cracking on Strange kind of Love with drummer Jeff Porcaro sadly too, no longer with us.
I saw Love and Money a few times and I used to own a few of their records, thought they were the best, couldn't understand why they didn't make it big time. I new Bobby, we played golf at the same club in Glasgow. I used to see him a Lloyd Cole on the golf course many times. I left for the states in 92' couldn't believe it when he died. Very sad.
Yes its sad when people pass on, especially so young.
Love and Money were such a great band, I still play Strange Kind of Love in the car and 19 years on it still sounds as fresh as ever, i cant understand why they didnt make it big either, but sometimes it leaves the best music for the minority to enjoy and the not so good for everyone else...

It's so good to see that there are still people who appreciate the talent of this band.Holygasoline is perhaps right about the best music being for the minority to enjoy. My first dance on my wedding day with my beautiful wife was walk the last mile. it's certainly more original that Whitney Huston.......

I love that old revisited "Steely Dan" sound that
artists like China Crisis and this with that
Walter Brecker/Gary Katz production value.

The B side of this was a song called Wanderlust II problably the most under rated recording in the history of popular music. Its on their greatest hits album "cheap pearls and whisky dreams" awesome!

One of the most under-rated bands EVER - if you like this, then check out the albums.

totally agree, saw them at newcastle poly in '86 they were superb, i got record signed, band really nice, james grant true gent but the bass player would not give time of day to me and was up his own rectum, very unpleasant and he made loads of screw ups and was worste player in band. Andy pawlak supported them, alas another talent that fame eluded... They appeared on a great show called melt down, be great if anyone has that to upload

The bass player is on of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. His name is Bobby Patterson. Maybe it was someone else on bass that night.
