They had a similar scene when Chibi-Usa saw a vision of Hotaru on a cross pleading for help as a bunch of hands reach up to drag her into the shadows, and yet they showed that... I don't mind the imagery one bit considering the villains can't exactly tie the Senshi up or lock them in a cell somewhere. And speaking of faith, in the Sailor Moon S series, the Outer Senshi are looking for someone called the Messiah, and refer to the Chalice as the means of saving the world from the Silence...

I just hate the English dub period since they take out so much stuff like they even took out some episodes in the first season and come on changing Japanese names to english names (isn't kinda racist). And I just don't get how that clip is offesive like come on I see athiests wearing cross necklaces all the time.

that's why anime is getting a bad rap...there's always someone who takes things like this at face value. Being half-Christian, I should know the difference of what's real and what's fake...this scene obviously hits home for our heroes, being reduced to mere prisoners, and yet there are people out there assuming that this is offensive...yet still, they instantly cling to doomsday superstitions and old Mayan texts that claim to know the end of the world.

@Yunoha2 boy, I usually don't reply to 4 month old posts, but I don't know what makes you think Japanese people are mostly christian, that is the opposite of the truth. Theres a very very very small percent of Japanese people who are christian, the dominant religions are Shintoism and Buddhism and over over 70% of Japanese people don't consider themselves religious at all.

You know, the only people that would be offended by the cross airing in anime are people that think the cross is a religious symbol. It is the symbol of Christianity, but it is also the symbol of much more deeper meaning. Kids shouldn't be "sheltered" by symbolism just because some adults don't like what it may or may not convey...have more faith in children and their parents to not be so easily influenced, you know? And just enjoy the show and relax.

Yeah, AustraRyo. I'm a Christian, and I don't find this offensive. I'm actually glad they used it, because it brings a deeper meaning and feeling into the anime/this episode. They may think they were making this more appropriate, but they're depriving children of these feelings. Whatever, I think it was dumb to edit this out.

You need to look past the reference to Christianity and se the real purpose of the symbolism here.

The Sailor Scouts are shown here as heros who have fallen to mere prisoners for only evil. Martyrs if you will. The Cross/Crusifixion is NOT only a Christian symbol, innocence and righteousness being pinned down by evil. It represents so much more and if you can't get your mind around it, that's pretty sad. The English dub makes me cringe in general, but not showing this clip was a letdown.

Okay, I understand where much of the criticism is coming from but I am certainly not the only "hard-headed" person making comment here. I would like to clarify my point. I wrote that there were MANY references to Jesus incorporated throughout Sailor Moon.

I think the show having some reference to the crucification of Jesus is inappropiate. If they had made this clip a little different, like NOT PINNING THEM TO CROSSES, then I would have been okay, but not everybody believes in God.

Yet, to go as far as pinning up all the Sailor Scouts in such an obvious manner is utterly and completely ridiculous. I think this scene is really offensive. I'm rather tired of the idea that the writers of this show are trying to portray; that Sailor Moon is the equivalent of Jesus or something. I'm actually happy this was cut from the dub but I would have preferred the Japanese writers to have had the judgment to omit this unnecessary depiction themselves. Go away and take your hard headed, self righteous, religious fanaticism with you. The concept of crucifixion isn't Jesus's symbol, just the one he was nailed to. Crucifixion is a Roman concept and was done years before....and after Jesus was crucified. Just cause he made a splash when they pinned him to one, doesn't hide the fact that thousands of other people were given the same death. Get over it.
