But what has BMW done in the motor racing world lately? They got beat up by Mercedes in Formula 1 so they pulled out then they get their nuts crushed by SEAT in the WTCC so they pulled out yet again and they always have their ass handed to them by Corvette at Le Mans so they'll probably pull out in the near future. At least they thought of re-joining the DTM so at least losing to Mercedes or Audi is less embarassing than to Chevys or SEATS don't you agree?

I agree that BMW isn't involved in the top racing series at the moment but I believe they will return to F1 in the near future. As for the WTCC, yes Seat are the champions now but BMW held the crowns before Seat entered the fray. Its not like BMW was never the champions in the WTCC. They won it. Nevertheless, BMW can compete with Audi in terms of racing glory but you are right that it has a long way to go vs. Mercedes-Benz.

Yes 2nd rate. WTCC/ETCC are second rate series. The DTM is universally considered the top touring car series in the world. The DTM use V8 engines while the WTCC use 2.0 liter 4 bangers. Big difference. First rate series are for open wheel racing -- Formula One (F1) , for rallying -- WRC , for endurance sportscars (24 Hours Le Mans) and the FIA-GT.

BMW participates in the GT2/GT3 category. Not the top rate class as you can see.

@wawiebeastman I agree that BMW doesn't participate in some top series (F1...) but DTM is not touring car racing, its basically prototype racing, when has the 4 liter v8 in the merc dtm car ever reached production level (c63 uses a 6.2 liter), I believe the reason why BMW participates in none "top rate" series is so that they can better develop their road cars (ALMS and soon LMS aswell= M3, WTCC and S2000 touring series = e90 3 series), which are class leaders for handling

So are you saying that F1,WRC or DTM racing data does not in any way contribute to the advancement of the road car? If that truly is BMW's belief, why did they participate in the first place? YES THEY DID. They used to be in the DTM but were thrashed by Audi and Mercedes. They were in FIA-GT with McLaren but again were mangled by Mercedes. Then recently they just pulled out of F1 after being lapped by Mercedes and Ferrari. If they were a winning outfit, would they have pulled out? Excuses.

@NorbPwn the problem with you is that you don't know too much about history........back in 2001/2002ish, they kept winning the 24 hour le mans race stupid, until porsche complained that they had a naturally aspired V8 in their le mans cars but they had a V6 in their road going M3's. yea, look into how porsche complained about how bmw was winning because of a V8, even though they were using a V8, so the committee decide to take them out................know your history stupid

Also, motor racing isn't just a type of engineering test for manufacturers. Its a form of advertising as well. F1 has a very large audience compared to the WTCC. In fact, the DTM is waayy more popular than the WTCC. Mercedes is in the top series because of that. Its both data-gathering and marketing in one mold.

IMSA,Euro Touring Car,American Le Mans series -- these are 2nd rate racing series that BMW is supposed to dominate. During the Turbo era of F1, BMW only one title and was even in F1 earlier than Porsche who won with McLaren from 1984-1986 before shifting to Honda in 1988. Don't brag too much about BMW racing success coz its nowhere near Audi and especially Mercedes-Benz racing success.

What a load of crap!! BMW can't even beat SEAT in the WTCC 4 banger series and you claim its the definition of sportscars??? Research first before you post. When Mercedes and BMW race each other in any platform (F1,FIA-GT,DTM,etc.) you lose. Compare the racing success of both companies and you'll discover how lowly BMW is. as much as i love porsche, bmw can beat it, didnt you hear in 2001 or 2002 when the m3 gtr dominated the 24 race, then porsche bitched and complained, so the council kicked them out. 2001 and 2002, it dominated to a point (every race) where porsche and others complained.
