been listening, liking since early '70's! Exquisite! He inspired me to play more piano, instead of just 'blues' harp & guitar! Got the album Zeitgeist, and that was it!
he is the best jazz pianist after bill evans has gone.this is also very very great performanse.i deadly want record canpanies to make many albums of his performance..he is deserve to make many chance to make his albums.
Or is it Keith a reincarnation of him? Zeitlin played like this way before Jarrett (1963!); Bill Evans himself recognized and hommagend his skills... an overlooked master
Good point, Alino. I love his playing too. All I am saying is that Keith transcends this guy in many ways. Zeitlin's playing is raw and warm. He might have paved the way to Evans and Jarrett in some ways. But Keith took it to a higher ground. But, again, this whole discussion can be irrelevant. Just an intellectual exercise Listen to Jarrett' playng standards alone during the 80's. and 90's.
I love -best, maybe- early Jarrett. HIs Impulses and underrated solo ECM Facing You. I think Jarrett carries more the influences of Evans and Paul Bley, though Zeitlin is a performer kinda out-of-any-class (but jazz history) so to speak.
Competely agree with you, Alino. especially life between the exit signs and expectations, those albums are very dear to my heart. at moments like 1:26 in this video, also, it becomes obvious that jarrett was not the only one learning from bley!
im dead serious too, its not just cuz of the last name.... theres like a book of all the zeitlins around the globe. hes in it, and my grandpa explained it all to me how he has met Denny and how we are related to him....
Maybe thats where I got MY musical talent..... lol just joking im nowhere close to being as good musician as him.
I love this tune...I played many times from the real book but believe it or not I never heard a recoding before: amazing composer. The changes are concentrate of modern harmonies. The melody is evocative and spacious
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Such a haunting melody. I just discovered I have a lead sheet in one of my fake books and have already played this to death. I love it!!!
Amazing. He puts so much of himself into this performance. It's like listening to a story. It's great to be able to see both this and 7notemode's interpretation. The sound is quite dense and layered but there's still incredible lightness of touch. A real pleasure.
I came in touch with this song from Bill Evans recordings (which influenced my version a lot :-)).This performance from the composer itself is wonderful and inspiring.Beautiful ! Thanks.
Extraordinary! Denny had the same magic in 1966. I was a medical intern at San Francisco General Hospital. Denny was a senior psychiatry resident at UCSF. While on call in the middle of the night, those same notes arose from the lobby of that old Hospital in San Francisco.
This is so wonderful. I still keep a copy of Keyboard Magazine featuring all about piano improvisation. There is an article (actually an interview) of Denny, where he explains both musically and neurologically what improvising in jazz is for the player and the listener.
This is a remarkable performance and a great composition. Zeitlin is an inspired musician still at the top of his game. Thank you for sharing this treasure.
thanks, very beautiful.

A great and dreamy interpretation! So modern also if it was played 26 years ago. Thanks for this gem of sheer beauty.

Now!
Denny's original.
Brilliantly adopted by Bill for his, ours night cap.
There's no plagiarism, just team work close hauled.
Enjoy it downwind.
