@0rijinaru Yeah, I know this is the original XD And yeah, I like the Vocaloid one better too XD (Not a spanish speaker, so I went to google translate and got this, sorry if it's not correct: This is the original ... like shit compare to vocaloid with this work of art)
juste extraordinaire , se film + cette OST qui n ait que admiration je respecte toute les personnes qui ont le privilégie de travailler pour cette œuvre nous vous sommes reconnaissant !! Quel Travaille !!!
Honestly, I was annoyed with japanese animes, music and all, but after watching this movie and listening to this music, I realized that the japanese are genuinely, absolutely, BRILLIANT.
At first glance I thought this movie was just boring, but when I really watched it, my jaw dropped. To create something so incredible, especially because of the perfect soundtrack, is mind boggling. Honestly one of the most magical things I have ever experienced, just the atmosphere and trippy, originality. LOVE THIS MOVIE!
As a rule I despise Anime and most japanese "pop" shit. But Paprika is nothing short of outright magical. One of the best animated works I've ever had to privilege to watch.
Just watched Paprika for the first time after having it recommended by all my anime-watching friends...the only other anime films I'd seen prior to this were Spirited Away and Ghost in the Shell.
It's like Satoshi Kon took the paranoid, uneasy amphetamine/psychedelic jitter of every Philip K. Dick book I've read (particularly The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch), but infused a hefty dose of ecstasy along with it.
You know, it's crazy. I didn't really react all that much to the news that Satoshi Kon had died. I mean, it WAS really sad, but I couldn't really get worked up over the death of a person that I'd never met. Then just now I listened to this song while reading over his (heartbreaking) last message, and it hit me that we'll never see anything like this again. Ever. And I couldn't stop crying for a good half hour after. His death has got to be one of the great tragedies in anime history.
@sirpwnsalot420 Actually, Paprika was released in 2006...Inception was released 2010...The maker of inception admitted that he used the idea from paprika! Though I can definitely see the confusion! ^^
I just saw the movie...it was art! It was like abstract, moving art with a plot.... I loved the movie and I plan to watch Satoshi Kon's other movies as well!! Great movie!
best anime i've ever seen, hands down. saw "perfect blue" after that because it was supposed to be similar in style but couldn't even sit through it. "paprika" has ruined me for other anime i'm afraid -_-
just bought millennium actress and paprika on blue ray.. much love and respect to Satoshi Kon. He will be an inspiration for many years to come. I love this song, brings tears to the eyes.
A great song, best in the film. And I really liked Satoshi's films. He was one of the few that still did serious film like anime. The type of stuff that japan used to do during the economic boom, except he did regardless of climate. I'm not saying that whatever anime people consider adult isn't, but his professionalism, really set the standard and only studio ghibli has really kept doing serious anime films(aside from satoshi)
@bobbertq Sometimes it's not about what a movie says, but what a movie does that makes it important. ;p Maybe it's better to be emersed than to be spoken to.................. or perhaps made to feel something. :3
It was such a blow when I found out what happened to him. I'm studying film-making, and his films were such an influence on my writing style, how he blends reality and distorts the viewer's understanding of what is real and not, as well as his referencing of film-making in general. There's so much going on in Paprika is just staggering. He'll always remain as one of my favourite film-makers. (btw, not looking for thumbs up, just wanted to say that).

@jhkgyg098 i doubt it has gakupo because of when it was made OAO gakupo didnt come out till 2008 and this movie was made...2006 so i do believe it is Meiko and Kaito with a real person singing the lead vocals. Of course the lead vocals may have been edited a bit to make the sound match better, but that's just my speculation.

beautiful animation (and song of course), but I STILL say Paprika is Kon's weakest work to date. It felt too much like an awkward mix of psychological thriller and retro throwback to various eras of american and japanese film styles without ever obtaining any real artistic cohesiveness. Even though it made for some great aesthetics, I felt like the Kon's execution was off, especially in the 3rd act.
@hymnofashes hey, I really liked tokyo Godfathers, but I could see where you're coming from. @sheepoxunicorn3333 This is Susumu Hirasawa. He is inspired by many cultures, and that fact is very evident in his work -- from the Thai on his album "Sim City" to the Vietnamese you hear here.
@MarteauDeJustice Oh? I hadn't realized. However, it is a fact that Susumu Hirasawa doesn't always stick to one language within a song. So, if someone (namely, sheepoxunicorn3333 who I was speaking to) claims to hear Vietnamese in a predominantly Japanese song, I'm not one to argue. I can never get tired of this song. One of my favorites of all time! It incorporates the traditional Japanese way of singing with modern music to accompany it. Amazing!
Satoshi Kon and Susumu Hirasawa duo are like the japanese counter part to Tim Burton and Danny Elfman when it comes to fitting unique music to a unique movie.

Watch it, seriously.
I had to watch it twice before it made and sense to me, but then I realised: they are dreams, they dont have to make sense! xD

Satoshi Kon and Susumu Hirasawa duo are like the japanese counter part to Tim Burton and Danny Elfman when it comes to fitting unique music to a unique movie.

@SuperShanko except tim burton has only one type of unique movie " dark and wierd" i love his movies but he's not one for changing a winning formula
xlawsjustice 2 years ago
@SuperShanko you can definitely draw parallels between Elfman and Sususmu's respective career paths, particularly the early years.

@SuperShanko Theres no point of comparison this is way better than the Tim Burton rapped child traumatic stories.

@SuperShanko It is a shame Satoshi Kon passed away.
