My guess is the one that is laying eggs and won't eat is about to die. That's what happened to mine and the one my brother had did the same thing. They only live 12-14 months. :( At least she's leaving a legacy behind. Try to google how to take care of those eggs. :)

I have no idea what they eat besides other bugs. I've heard of them eating small rodents and even hummingbirds and other small critters but you don't want to feed it live food so that's no help. I think you're just going to have to suffer and let mother nature do her thing. Or call your pet store and see if they have Kibbles for Mantises. :D

how active are praying mantises though? i like pets that i can interact with when i want to, not wake up me up in the middle of the night for a walk(dogs). i've heard people going for walks with mantids and stuff. so how active are they?

They're pretty inactive. They sit and wait for something to eat. I've never heard of somebody walking a mantis like a dog but I know people do some pretty wild shit. I've seen people take their mantises out and play with them. They are supposed to pretty docile if you can keep from making sudden movements.

I believe it! My brother has had a bunch of Mantises and warned me not to put too many crickets in there at once or they would do just what you said. I never put in more than four or five at a time and even then I was always nervous. :)

i love this video, but i think you should put some grass in there and some dirt. praying mantis's dont tend to last long if theyre in an unusual envirement. but the size of the cage is good. he might just get bored or something, btw, how'd you get one?

thanks. I had a stick in there with some grass for some time but my brother pointed out to me that that might be too much clutter and make it hard to see the crickets. SO, I just left the stick which I removed to make this video. I placed the white backgrounds in there so the camera would have an easier time of focusing. She died in October 2010. I had my brother mount it with pins in an attack position. She looks great.

aww.. did your feeling get hurt? FYI, SHE (she laid a batch of eggs) had a stick in there. The stick was taken out and some paper was put in the background for ease of viewing the demise of the crickets. I'm surprised you're not crying about the cruelty that the mantis had towards them.
