i found this video by typing in axel, loop, double mapes. what i got was axel, loop, double loop, double loop, double loop, euler, double flip... haha!
She's NOT nine years old for God's sake. This was Elementary girls in the late 80's. Elementary was 11 and 12 [give or take a few depending on when you were born]. Back then the divisions were broken down as follows; Primary [up to 8 y.o.], Juvenile [9-10], Elementary [11-12], Freshman [13-14], Sophomore [15-18], Intermediate [19+], Junior [placements out of Fresh., Soph,, and Int. ] and World Class [placements out of Junior (or) 1st placements in any division as long as the skater was over 13].
The "save" at 1:30 and again at 2:15 are why this girl won aside from the fact that content wise she was in a level all her own. She should post her WORLD competition just a few years later!!! World records show her getting 3rd??
Stephanie did not win this year. She actually got 3rd place. Jennifer Kern won this year. Jennifer came from the famous Allentown Skating Club on the east coast. Jennifer moved to world class the next year and got 3rd place at Worlds with a clean double axel.
it is unlikely you will ever see a girl from the usa with this talent ever again. usa roller is dead and the talent is weak. besides its speed and confidence and this girl had it!!!
Also, he'd do it with his eyes closed. XD I'd pay to see him falling on his ass, LOL.
Skating in roller skates is not as easy as it looks, smart guy. And I love ice skating too. ^^ Mostly because the skates are not half as heavy and because I find it easier and way more magical. ^^
this was 20 years ago stop with the bad talk my god enjoy this she is now 20 years older wow times flies and 4 u ice skaters stop already rollerskating is and always will be much more difficult I dont think I need to say Y
@icesk8erforlife YEAH im a figure skater too and ARS is very hard. I kno people who do it and they say its really hard. and if figure skating is in the olympics then so should ARS.
I disagree I find both sports equalally as good. I am an ice skater but i enjoy roller skating just as much, I would like to see you do all of that on four wheels!
ok i know that the grl was only nine years old but seriously the spins ans crossovers were a mess and again with the horrible dress!!! and i wont even go into the wrapped leg and intresting jump combos.
Yeah, that first combo doesn't get old. I think Autumn Kuwahara (sp?) did something similar in her early/mid 90s program (maybe 94); mind you that was in world class, but still amazing.
i skated from the age of 4-11. i skated at that rink many times before moving to illinois and becoming their elementary and juvenile state champion for 4 years.
this clip floods my memories! i quit before the advent of the video cam (i am a seventies child.)
Ok so we know she can jump but where's the rest of the program? Not much in the artistry dept. just a lot of going from one end of the rink to the other and jumping. I'd like to see a more complete program.
I used to be able to do stuff like this. I started taking lessons when I was like, 5. and by the time I was 8, my coach wanted me to go competitive. I said no. Biggest mistake of my childhood. I should've said yes! Ughh!
Roller skating looks down on that to. But back in the '80 the attitude was more about heavier content then technec. If you notice she has 5 double loops, the hardest double in roller skating, 4 of which or in combos. The high wrapped free leg can be controled easily in a double its not 'till you start into triples is it a real problem. But even today you see world class skaters doing it that way. You see it on ice to but again the deductions you get on ice for it are heavier than in roller.
The 80's. We had minimal footwork and artistic form. Guys barreled from end to end jumping. SPEED, HEIGHT and CLEAN TAKEOFFS and landings. Judges liked power. I had a double-wally/double mapes combo at lightning speed with good height and no connecting loop. People would clap during warmups. Freeleg wrap WAS bad back then, BUT remember a pair of Snyder plates/Reidell boots weighed a TON. The new light plates came out in mid 80's. Before we had to really fight our freelegs, especially on triples.
dude this kid is 9year old how exciting do you expect her to be. Yeah i can see that art will be boring to a speed skater and vis/versa but geese leave a little girl alone.
Also when everyone was "still good" coaches didnt put jumps in a routine that the skater couldnt do, or cheated. Now everyone from sophomore singles and up has tripple flips in their programs-whats up with that?
The last time i saw her compete was in 1996. She skated world class at nationals in lincoln, nebraska but fell a couple times in her long progam and didnt place. She was an amazing skater to watch though.
I can tell you that she had been skating since she was 4 years old and she was I believe 12 or 13 when she skated this regionals. She was skating I believe 5 days a week and training about 5 to 6 hours a day. Depending. But she was a skater that was highly dedicated to the sport.
Can adult skaters in their thirties become good roller skaters? Are they less talented than younger skaters? In what area can they do best at,figures or dance or figure skating? Anyone knows?
Skaters can become good skaters at any age. My father started skating when I was 5 years old and he was national champion. You will find that most adult skaters who start skating at an older age go into dance or figures. I would not suggest freestyle unless you want to fall a lot.
I use to skate freestyle 20 years ago and just bought a new pair of skates. I am 38 and want to start again. I will stick with dance and figures because I'm too old to be falling again. I'm really excited to get out there again. Any one else out there that use to skate in the 80's and want to start up again?
OMG...ok this made me just had an extreme flash back. I actually skated against her and at one point we had the same coach. Her and Jennifer Goodgame were coached by Omar Dunn and Natalie Dunn. They were out of Skateland Bakersfield. Her and I were rivals I believe this year was the year that she actually beat our Rechelle Hanson. WOW what great memories those held.
Those were great memories! But Rechelle was in World Class that year. Remember she was like 12 skating against Tami Jeru and those girls. Its to bad that the skaters these days have not kept up in the US. But they dont have the training time that we got back in the days. I practiced 6 to 7 days a week 4 hours a day during school. And 8 hours a day during summer.
I love how she recovers from the 2lutz combo, the one that looks like it should have been 2lutz, euler, 2salchow. She basically does a 2salchow out of nowhere while she's still pretty much reovering from her mess up. Nice 2salchow with the hand over the head too.
I saw many times this video brought by a friend when I started skating and helped me a lot throught the years, skating or coaching. That time all brazilian skaters was happy on doing a double loop!!!!! Now we have another standart.
I love that first combination, its fast clean and solid. She does one of the most solid double loops that I've seen. Too bad her spins aren't that great.
i found this video by typing in axel, loop, double mapes. what i got was axel, loop, double loop, double loop, double loop, euler, double flip... haha!
