  • what is the road that is taped on your newest videos like this one?

  • @alysnwndrlnd I'm not sure I understand the question.

  • Wow I've lived in Augusta almost 2 years and I have never drove past Exit 7 on Bobby Jones. I had no idea it went around like that. This video is very cool. But I will say I disagree with people around here respecting the speed limit. I drive 65 and still almost get run over on Bobby Jones.

  • You need to use that song in another video.

  • I never understand how people are able to keep dogs in the back of trucks. Any dog I have ever had probably would have jumped out. However I see it all the time and only once have I seen one jump out and that was when they were stopped at a traffic light. The dog was not hurt and the owners got it.

  • @19crash84 He's Georgia dog and he's smart enough not to jump out!

  • First, let me say what a surperb piece of work you have complied. The fly overs are now completed and the system is one of the best in the nation. They completed it ahead of schedule and under budget. Damn, go figure that. But they did. Everyone in Augusta while it was happening was going, " what the hell they doing". What a mess. Completed, GENIUS. Great job to all of the men and women that were involved.

  • @starr522 Thanks, I thought GDOT did a great job on that interchange too.

  • I first saw the I-520 exit at exit 5 last December. Finally they got it completed to circle around the Augusta area! The new section of 520 leading to I-20 is clean and superb. And I also saw the revamped Exit 196 interchange at I-520 with the spectacular high flyover bridges and how they expanded the road the first 5miles into Georgia. Is it me, or does that Moody Blues song sound like a Lionel Richie song from the same year of 1983? It was like hearing Hello a little bit, but I liked it.

  • Hmmm, I had no clue the I-520 beltway on the South Carolina side was completed all the way around North Augusta to I-20, although I had seen newer maps of the South Carolina side for several years showing several miles had been constructed. The grassy median that has a jersey barrier on the Georgia part of I-520 is definitely interesting like you said, since it's very rare for grassy medians to have that barrier.

Great video, and especially interesting to see the dog in that pickup!

  • @tmarshall23 -Thanks, I actually saw the grass/barrier thing a few places in Texas last month, it's an odd sight indeed.

  • What a coquinsidence. I was listening to this song tonight as I was driving through Warwick, RI.

  • I-520 is just clinched!

  • Got to hand it to you, Freeway Jim. You really know how to make the most boring roads so exciting!

  • @lakebay972 Thank you, I really appreciate that because that's kind of what I was thinking when I started working on this video. I might have a couple more like that coming up in Columbia SC.

  • @lakebay972 i agree!

  • "Exit 1C: To Strip Malls" <-- You have a subtle sense of humor, Freewayjim! Another good video!

  • Shouldn't this Interstate be I-420 or I-620 since it connects to the parent route on both ends? I-820 is in Fort Worth, TX and I-220 is in Jackson, MS so I-420 or 620 would be logical. I understand why it would originally be signed as an odd prefix but it should technically be resigned.

  • @riolindasucks It should be an even number x20 but who knows if it will happen or now. It might cost a lot of $ to change all those signs.

  • @Freewayjim As it was built in stages, the original 7 miles of freeway were a spur, hence the I-520 designation I assume.

  • @CVSoprano -That is correct, not sure if they ever envisioned it being a complete loop when they started with the first 7 miles back in the early 80's.

  • @riolindasucks you said 420, lol.

  • @Fanik8 Can you imagine the rate of sign theft, if they DID change it to I-420 to conform to numbering conventions?

  • @CVSoprano -I thought of that too, LOL but 220, 620 or 820 would be OK.

  • I'd like to know why Georgia is being inconsistent in their new signage standards. I notice that the new signs at the I-20 interchange in the beginning is a newer style with squared-off corners but basically the same. Yet, 85 as soon as you enter Fulton County from DeKalb has those ugly (IMO) new ones with bold font and exit tabs. Gerogia did such a great job before with their signage before modifying the standards.

Great video! Loved the music and thanks for showing off the new section in SC!

  • @CosmoPhotography -Thank you! I hear ya on the signs, I was kind of surprised to see the font on the newer signs, not sure what that's about.

  • neat ride .. good production

  • Hah, I was beginning to wonder when you were gonna do another video. Love the opening with good old MD I-95 @ I-395.

As for the subject matter, I'm amazed at how... sylvan? I-520 is. o_O Nice road, but for a part-beltway loop, just wow.

Then again, US 13's Salisbury Bypass is like that too.

  • It's as if they prepped this road for future expansion from two to three lanes in each direction. It is indeed a strange sight. The only other time I saw a strange Jersey barrier is I-264 in VA between First Colonial Blvd and Birdneck Rd in Virginia Beach, when the expressway goes from 4 lanes to 3 lanes each direction. The difference there is that the Barrier starts and stops suddenly.

  • We usually just number our ditches back in Minnesota...

  • thanks for the vid nice

too ride along with you agin

  • Jim, I liked that blue fade out. Great video and soundtrack. Very Approiate. UB

  • @uptownbronze Thank you!

  • Nice video, Jim.

  • @Bryant5493 Thanks Bryant.

  • @Freewayjim

    Welcome thou art.

  • This videos always make me happy

  • Dad here:

saw the Moody's in concert last week.....great even today even though the're in their 60's.....brought back many an old memeory....Just don't get songs like their's anymore

  • @FreewayAndrew Hey Tom, yes their music is timeless, I saw them once in the early 90's.

  • good work as usual Jim

  • @rthor34 Thank you!

  • Great video and choice of music! I got some Columbus videos from last weekend that would be interesting. Also, how long does it take to have your videos from last weekend all saved to you computer? 5 of the 7 videos from my Columbus trip has been saved onto my computer.

  • @FreewayAndrew I've only got 4 of the 9 tapes (62 Min) I shot converted to the external hard drive, I have to do it in "Real Time".

  • @Freewayjim My camera, the HDR-CX350, has internal memory of about 7 1/2 hours of footage, and after I have all my videos converted onto the computer, I format the memory. Also, where did you get the speed limit signs from?

  • @FreewayAndrew The Speed Limit signs are on Wikipedia.

  • @Freewayjim Where on Wikipedia can you find the 60 and 65 MPH speed limit signs?

  • @FreewayAndrew

I use the speed limit signs for Wikipedia as well. What I do is type "60 mph wiki" in the Google search engine. When the images come up, look for "wiki.commons," or something to that effect.

  • @FreewayAndrew I just search google images, but i stopped adding them in my videos because it became too much of a hassle. No one really cares what the speed limit is anyway.

  • @bokkey45 Jim told me to search for them on Wikipedia Commons. Also, people DO really care about the speed limits because if someone doesn't know the speed limit for that area, it could cause trouble.

  • @FreewayAndrew well...my idea is that people watch the vids for entertainment, not for specifics. I am not a nut about roads, i dont know about anyone else but i am not really interested in knowing the speed. I mainly make my videos for the cities that i am driving in or near. Also in Delaware, the speed limit changes all the time and i need to download like 15 speed signs!!!!!

  • @bokkey45 And also, Jim, Brent, and I put those signs up, so that we wouldn't have to list the speed limit on the notes, like we used to do.

  • @FreewayAndrew didnt you see my videos with the speed signs? i feel like i started it...

  • @FreewayAndrew Yeah between Jim, Brent, You, and me, I am the first one who added the speed signs. My first vid with the signs was on April 10th 2010, I think this is Jim's first vid with the speed signs (June 29th 2010), Brent's first vid w/ the signs was July 5th 2010, and you joined in June 2010.

  • @bokkey45 Yes, this is Jim's first video with the speed limit signs, and my first video with them was my US-33 East - Columbus to Lancaster video. That was my last video from my Columbus trip.

  • Excellent video Jim!

  • @VaFreeways Thank you!

  • Putting barriers in the grass and naming ditches? Strange town I guess.

  • @eluko79 LOL, Indeed!

  • Wow, I didn't even know I-520 was completed in SC...

  • @aswchris - Same here...

  • This was pretty interesting to watch, especially since I've never seen even a single video of the freeway. The first section looked like a very nice and modern, urban freeway. The western half of I-520 is actually busier than I would've ever thought, considering Augusta's relatively small size, and the fact that it loops around the very outer edges of Augusta, rather than thru or adjacent to the city center. Catchy tune, too.

  • @FreewayBrent: A single video or picture* of the freeway. It's getting late, lol.

  • @FreewayBrent Thanks! I've been driving this road on and off since the late 1980's, IMO they should widen it to 6 lanes up to the Airport Exit. GDOT just finished reconstructing the interchange at I-20, it used to be a cloverleaf, now they have two flyovers, a HUGE improvement.

  • You're flying along there at a pretty good clip--excellent musical choice--gives ya a sense you're just floating along, not even touching the ground. Great fun!

  • @MoodyJill hey MJ - FWJ speeds up his footage when he edits, and of course, never speeds when driving (right?)

  • @0marigolds Of course right!

  • @MoodyJill Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the ride! I speed up the footage, about 4x in this case.

  • @Freewayjim It's a fantastic effect! Feels like you're just sailing along without touching the ground! Love the video!

  • @MoodyJill Thank you and I love your analogy! The first video I did was in real-time speed and while the subject was interesting the video was flat, the speed really helps, especially if you synch it up properly with a good song :)

  • Is there any particular reason why the speed limit is so low?

  • Wow all that freeway milage and hardly any cars and residents... I am guessing that the Augusta Area is expected growth soon...

  • great timing in this - OMG - the dog (mammoth) @ 3:09, is that legal????

Excellent musical choice - love the "blue" ending - 5* great drive FWJ - peace ;.)

  • @0marigolds no I'm pretty sure that's not legal. That burns me up when I see people do that. I mean maybe they figure it's alright and if the dog is trained enough he'll stay put but I would never put a dog in a truckbed and drive down the interstate like that.

  • @VaFreeways thanks, the dog does look like he is having an amazing time - I'm old enough to remember my siblings and I riding in the back of a truck like the dog, not on a major interstates, but the feeling of the wind....ahhh, country living!

  • @0marigolds Thanks and peace to you :)

I don't think it's legal to have a dog in back like that but I'm not 100% sure. One slam of the brakes and that dog is in serious trouble. I would never put a dog in harms way like that.

  • @Freewayjim probably illegal, the mammoth dog is obviously in total bliss...btw, like the 18-wheeler exhaust timing, before my comments incite commentary on political correctness I'll shut up now. Great vid - can't wait for the next ones!

  • @0marigolds Ha! I got lucky with the timing on the 18-Wheeler :) I'm with ya on the dog, if it's not illegal it darn well should be. The next video should be quite interesting :)

  • Everytime i drove I-520 on the GA side, almost half of the drivers did not respect the 55mph limit. Many drove 65-70.

  • at 1:48, i had that happen

  • @jerseyman4 -I found it hard to get through traffic, I had a "first run" for about 5 miles, the traffic was horrible, lots of room but nobody going over 55, it was so bad I aborted it and started over again.
