  • Paul did the basic first drums, but the last solo was definitely done by Ringo. Ringo came back and recorded over Paul's take, you can actually hear on the isolated vocals paul's drumming, way more basic than the solo.

  • actually it's Paul on drums~

  • Actually Paul did the drumming on this!

    4) Helter Skelter 5) Birthday

  • @ocn14s What about "Yer Blues"?

  • @xxxthundercatsxxx - Don't like that track much - it is a bit too harsh sounding but it is all opinions isn't it - I think the White Album is their best along with Rubber Soul and Revolver

  • Not outs, hours.

  • This song was made for a girl in India while the beatles were on there meditate break. Ms. Prudence meditated ten outs a day and the Beatles thought she was crazy, so John Lennon picked up his guitar and played this without a beat and bass. :3 I LOVE THE BEATLES!!! -3

  • @TheImpromptuChef thanks for the heads up, now I know =)

  • @1nephi1117 Actually, it was Paul on the drums - on this and I believe "Back in the USSR", as well. That's why Ringo got ticked off and temporarily quit the Beatles.

  • @ssur55 thanks for the heads up

  • @1nephi1117 Paul was Drumming on this song.. but i know what you mean

  • @1nephi1117 My friend... Paul plays the drums on this song and on "Back in the USSR". Ringo was on holiday in Sardinia. Someone gave him octopus for lunch telling him that octopuses make garden on the seabed. He had a couple of joints and started writing "Octopus' s Garden". Then Georged helped him finishing it even if he' s not credited.

  • very talented guys to write so many songs, why dont any of you try writting one thing original song then you will see what I am saying.

  • @pogle30 Because they can't. These 4 men changed the world "literally" with their music and everything else. They had such an impact that we, or at least in my life I will never see anything like this EVER happen again.

  • gotta love it

  • this is better than anything else in rock music, if not in everything

  • Brilliant ...

    The Beatles Forever !!

  • picture this song playing at your funeral all of your loved ones are there, and their tears fall on your cold pale corpse. What will they say about you? What will they remember about your life? Now go out and play today because life is too short and you won't get a tomorrow when you are dead

  • R.I.P. Prudence Hockley

  • dear prudence, y u no come out to play?!

  • @guaitolinigabriel No she's grounded, she wasn't very prudent.

  • @wiisalute, sure you can, a girlfriend of mine got killed 25-1/2 years ago, I was 24..I am 50, married divorced and 3 kids..sure you can, squished isn't crushed..you can do it if you want it, it is out there for you, you just got to get out and look for it and you will find it, 4 things..except no, don't hit them, think of putting a smile on their face and not yours, and have faith...there is someone or three for everyone.

  • @mrbiga55 that's right. look around.that's what this whole song is about- everything else.

  • @wiisalute if it helps any im in the same boat as you

  • @DKat263 you too?

  • @DKat263 im only 18 why the fuck is it so hard to find a girlfriend

  • sooooooooooooo stnoneddd

  • This sounds amazing with a subwoofer.

  • the sun is up, the sky is blue, it's beautiful and so are you. -3

  • Beautiful. I can listen to it over and over. This song makes me happy, how he's reaching out to prudence. Jerry Garcia Band covered this song AMAZINGLY. Jerry will sing it with every ounce of soul. check it out. Caught a couple of Furthur shows this year and Bobby is still doing it. teared me up.

  • Exellent.....

    The Beatles

    Best Band In History .

  • To the person who said "Lennon was an admitted capitalist, and believed giving away all his money, or having The Beatles performing benefit concerts would accomplish nothing in the "big picture" — this is completely untrue. Look up 'I Am the Walrus' on wiki. Lennon hated capitalism. He died hating capitalism.

  • from what i researched about this song, prudence was unsociable. like me

  • They would always reserve an entire track for the bass line (which was a lot when you only had eight to work with), which Paul would work out last over the backing track, by himself, in a chair w/a pair of headphones on. As you can hear, he always came up with an "appropriate" bass line for John's songs.

  • Who wouldn't come out to play with this song?

  • Mantra for me.Great song!

  • John Lennon Forever 1940 - 1980

  • OMG... 23rd July 2008.. My memories are back again! <3 <3 Love my life, Love my Memories and Love The Beatles!!!

  • One of the most stunning Beatle's songs

  • @RJLKMRD It's one of my favorites on the White Album (1968)!

  • Dang it Prudence! When John Lennon asks you to come out to play, you do it no questions asked!

  • awesome ....

  • Probably my favorite song from this album. A gorgeous symphony of guitars and great vocal harmonizing--as a band, they sound very tight and on top of their game here. Paul's bass line is particularly strong--one of his very best.

Sad it never gets played live, but I guess Paul respects it too much as a "John" song to add it to his set. Plus he's got dozens of his own classics to choose from, of course...

  • My favorite album

  • @3chrds what are you talking about? now you made me feel bad cuz you had to say "love of your life"

  • aw man im getting depressed just listening to this

  • @wiisalute how the hell can you get depressed??? this songs is all about joy? do you even know the back story?. Prudence farrow, sister of Mia farrow locked herself in her hut on the meditation retreat in india on the maharashi retreat with the beatles. John wrote and sang this song to her so she would come out and play with them. He did it out of kindness. He was a beautiful human being.

  • I hate how everyone in my class says that the Beatles' songs were horrible and they couldn't sing...

  • @IanEduardoMeneses you must've went to a school for the deaf?

  • @IanEduardoMeneses They aren't worthy.

  • @IanEduardoMeneses i know, they just mad that we dont like crap like justin.B

  • this is the only beatles song that makes me cry. because of the lyrics "won't you come out to play". im always unsociable, could never fit in with other people. this is why i don't have a girlfriend. well i used to. but even now i still can't find one. because of my lack of social skills

  • @wiisalute keep at it mate, everything comes with practice

  • @wiisalute Get a Life

  • @wiisalute life opens up when you do my friend

  • @wiisalute you're just like me.

  • @99paulmccartney this song shows how i can't find a real kiss

  • @wiisalute ...when you least expect it, when you're not looking...love will find a way...

  • @aineiss "love will find a way?" what is this jurassic park?

  • @wiisalute OK....now I understand your utter lack of social skills. Someone feels your pain and offers some solace....and you...well, good luck with that and have a nice life...

  • @wiisalute You're making fun of someone saying love will find a way, and you're talking about crying because you don't have a girlfriend? Women usually find men with testicles a little more attractive, but you've obviously replaced them with your pissy little attitude. You get what you give, it's not nice to piss on someone when they were trying to be nice.

  • @jakebarnes230 sorry.

  • @wiisalute Head up man, shes just around the corner :)

  • @phil23hero no she isn't i don't see her

  • @wiisalute Hey ,take a sad song and make it better.... Don´t carry the world upon your shoulders ....go ahead boy ,believe in yourself.

  • @wiisalute Boo hoo, cry some more.

  • @wiisalute i'm sure you'll find someone :)

  • @wiisalute If you're willing to share that to a bunch of strangers, think you're wrong about your social skills... just saying.

  • @tab3ra If he/she doesn't address the problem to anyone, how will he/she ever find an answer? Just saying :P

  • @wiisalute I feel your pain bro :(

  • @wiisalute I think you need one of these *hug*

  • waow!according to me the remasterd version of all songs help much more to hear bass and back vocal!!!!!!!!it's a new band!!!

  • Travis picked..good stuff

  • <3

  • Got to say I love this album!

  • You cannot listen to this song and not twist one up, or at least go to the oregano jar and toilet paper and roll one up which is what I am doing now...

  • @PlanTonto i dont need drugs to enjoy the beatles

  • @fender7682 What? For real? Ok, is this Ted Nugent?

  • @PlanTonto i just tend to focus more on the music than the getting high part

  • @PlanTonto Yeah, this song isn't really druggy at all.

  • I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF YOU 'BEATLES' FANS KNOW THIS.

BUT THIS SONG IS TOTALLY BUDDY HOLLY.

LISTNE TO ''IT'S RAINING IN MY HEART''

  • @niggaT4200 I can definitely hear a resemblence, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "rip off".

  • I sometimes shed a tear listening to Beatles songs. Not because the song is sad, simply because it is perfect. Just... perfect.

  • You should hear this in headphones, if you haven't already.

  • @trevors71 Absolutely, I am totally digging it. When at home, that's all I use. Im broke as a joke, but I plopped down 300 bananas on a set of Beats by Dre just for music like this...

  • "The sun is up the sky is blue. Its Beautiful and so are you" If it wasn't for that line I wouldn't be engaged to the most beautiful person on the face of the earth :)

  • ...why was i born in 1986?seriously.i get a "natural" high everytime i hear this masterpiece

  • Perfect....

  • Comment removed

  • The bass line is just PERFECT.

  • @ViiRGiiNiiA1990 The ALL OF IT is just perfect.

  • @ViiRGiiNiiA1990 yes it is !

  • @ViiRGiiNiiA1990 Better than Something? I can't choose

  • @3234718 Well I didn't say this one was better than Something... it's just a matter of taste really, but I tend to think that this bass line along with the one in "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and "Hey Bulldog" are the best thing Paul ever did on bass. Oh and don't forget "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "Rain". Dammit McCartney, you're not making things easy for me, are you? xD

  • @ViiRGiiNiiA1990 Junk has a great bassline too. And She Came In Through the Bathroom Window, especially the anthology version

  • I really think that Mr. Lennon would be so proud of the people of the world for the Occupy everything. I know it inspires me to write music about it. It's good to see that people havn't forgotten all you need is Love after all!

  • @danielskids99

He might sing them "Give Work a Chance" or "All you need is Soap" .....

  • @danielskids99 I'd have to agree with you, although John mellowed quite a bit politically in his later years. He was more for peace, love, and against war, more than what OWS is "trying"to do. Lennon was an admitted capitalist, and believed giving away all his money, or having The Beatles performing benefit concerts would accomplish nothing in the "big picture". I also think he'd be very much against the violence that the Anarchists have turned OWS into, thus discrediting the movement as a whole.

  • One of my favorite Beatles (Lennon) songs of ALL time. Unfortunately, as lovely as the song is, it was written under very dire circumstances. "Prudence" was actress Mia Farrow's sister, whom they met on their trip to meet the Maharishi Yogi in India. Prudence got so heavy into the process, she locked herself in her room for days on end, in a catatonic state, and they almost "committed" her. John had wrote the song to cheer her up, and the story goes, that it did.

  • theres 4 deaf people on youtube!!!!

  • this song doesn't really go many places besides that alteration between those two notes.... but when it does, it's so freaking tasteful..... i LOVE it

  • I F*CKING LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!

  • upon hearing this, i think i will come out and play

  • Trying to pick your favorite Beatles song is like trying to pick your favorite leg....

  • @wahuk that is a bad analogy i choose my right leg over my left

  • i love the enunciation, so cool

  • Sounds like 5 Mr. Lennons sing together I hate double track vocals.

  • @jasperwoods what

  • the remastered version sucks, seriously

  • @mekore how?

  • if you want to sound right on a guitar you need to use drop d tuning to play this

    its simple but bloody great

  • THUMBS UP IF....!!!!

Nahhh just enjoy this beautiful song, never mind

  • my favorite song ♥

  • Lennon's kiss off to the 60's.

  • Back in nam"69

  • Favorite Beatles track ever

  • They are the greatest for all time need I say more? ; )

  • @seuin6 nope.. you summed it up in 11 words

  • @busterhymen Thanks for the input. It was Paul who announced the Beatles split publically. According to Peter Brown's (Beatles staff) book: "Paul announced to the newspapers what John had wanted to announce all along. He was leaving the Beatles." And as far as I know, it's Paul playing drums here. I even find a similitude with the drumming of the studio version of "Maybe I'm Amazed". You're right, by the time Paul did this they had already split.

  • i really really love this song .one really true ol'timey classic that i love as one of the best songs ever ...."

  • @bastersave96 Thanks for the comment, I know what you mean. Regarding Ringo, it's funny to hear how, the one everybody considered the lesser Beatle, was actually the first one to walk out on them, even before Paul; just because he was not willing to put up with the other guys' antics anymore, during the recording of this master piece. They say that when he came back there were flowers all over his drum set. I love Beatles history.

  • @18busterhymen Agreed.I don't play guitar proffesionally though.Just for my own enjoyment.

  • To all those commenting on the bass in this song.Paul is a great bass player and I'm not taking anything away from him however I have to agree with lob287. If you were to listen to this song being played only on acoustic without any other accompanying instruments you would hear that the song because of the way the guitar is tuned almost sounds as if a bass was being played along with it. This is what drop D tuning does.Neil Young plays many songs in drop D tuning also.

  • @18busterhymen Trust me I agree with you .I think the guitar is the best aspect of this song. I now understand your point. As good as the bass may be it's job on this song only really accentuates what is already being played by on the guitar.the drop D tuning of the guitar is what really gives this song its bassy sound. As I had stated previuosly I play the song on acoustic and when its played it almost has the sound of a bass in it.

  • @lob287 That is a good point.

  • @18busterhymen Everybody is talking about the bass because they have an appreciation for good instrumental performances. What is wrong that?

  • I love playing this song on my acoustic guitar. This is one of the first fingerpicking songs that I learned. There is really only one fingerpicking pattern for every chord throughout the song. This song is played in drop D tuning which means the low E string is tuned down 1 full step to D. This gives the low strings deep bassy sound which greatly compliments the plucking of the higher notes.

  • According to Mark Lewisohn it was Paul on bass, and he also plays the drums. The White Album is the soundtrack of the -second part of- the sixties: pollitacally, ideologically, and even spiritually; because it captures, pretty comprehensively, the atmosphere of distrust and desillusion characteristic of the times.

  • @Imsteppenwolf That is correct.I like it when someone actually has something informative or interesting to say.I find such statements to be rare on Youtube. Apparently this was recorded during a time when Ringo had actually quit the band or at least walked out on them.

  • Comment removed

  • @musicfan1952 It's actually John playing the bass on this track.
