you could say shes the Bon scott of Australian rock, but that would be an understatement, that lady put the boots on stuck her chin out and made her self a throm, she is an iconic Australian, and should be held as high as the rest of our rock giants!
@aaadogman I think you mean the female Bon Scott of Australian rock....
I would like to say she is the epitome of female Aussie rockers, but she isn't... she's one of the boys. She's with Angus, Bon, Angry Anderson, Jimmy Barnes, Doc Neeson, Billy Thorpe, Lobby Loydd, etc. To say she is the epitome of female Aussie rockers is to say that Aussie female rockers take it to the level she takes it. The sad truth is, they don't... she's one of a kind in Australia. Not even that Baby Animals chik
@aaadogman they used to play at my uni (James Cook)......and for many years, every time you saw a movie at the theatre, you could see in the credits where they had written songs for hollywood movies..........she was hot on stage too................
@nzoz1981 it is a shame, because Aussie's have a great culture and make terrific music, but I learned tons from our foreign exchange students as well...there are 257 countries, it's hard to highlight a bit of something from everyone of them until it's right in your face. I think it's brilliant that @craicbaby was open enough to learn new things from someone from miles away though :)
At 1.21 my son fell terminally in love with a woman older than his mother. Understandably. Mummy prefers Pleasure and Pain. Note to politicians and media commentators - dysfunctional, non-standard families can get along just fine without your help.
Divinyls had considerable amount of success (or was it attention?) in the US during the 80's and of course the masturbation song lifted their profile... the thing is, people depend too much on promoters and radio. Shame really.
@cparkes92 the bands of this era did a lot of live gigs, the songs IMO were very well crafted and musically interesting and a little formal, but the content wasn't, then came Indi pop that IMO never really embraced the song or the skill of creating a song.
@cparkes92 This way we get to enjoy and protect our home grown quality rather than have it watered down and b*stardised to appeal to a diverse international audience (with less humour about Chrissie's antics! I'm privileged to sing this song with my two bands - it rocks the audience, and me, every time :-D
I think all the boys in town close their eyes and see you before them, think they would die if you were to ignore them, a fool could see just how much they adore you, and they get down on their knees - they'd do anything for you, huh wow oh...
I was 8 when they released this and hearing her on the radio and on countdown used to scare the crap out of me. I'd never heard a woman sound so aggressive before. I heard Janis much later and there is a lot in common there.
Chrissy, you made me feel strong and that I could overcome, any thing. So grateful you are well, Women from our era where made to feel use less if we did not put out. I still feel the same as I did then, even hough a broken marriage and 2 kids later, we are of balls and my girls at 18 and 20 have got the message. Take care and bless you, keep on keeping on Denise
Awesome Chrissie my role model, even though we of a similiar age. I love the era and can't look forward, always look back. You look like Gwen Cooper from torchwood
Oh yeah, baby!!- this one and "Take A Chance" (and "Heart Telegraph", for that matter) definitely show the world that Chrissy was ridiculously talented (and sexy)back in the day. I have been the proud owner of the albums "Desparate" and "What A Life" since both of them came out, and will NEVER grow tired of listening to what is perhaps the greatest "frustration rock" ever made.

He dont know shit about music or real women it appears and probaly cant play bass either.lol. Its common knowledge the Divinyls were first to do what they did and do it well, so fuck him.
I was a kid when I saw Chrissie on Countdown and I remember feeling awed and kinda scared of her ferocity. Looking back she was a legend for attacking the status quo - back in the day it was pretty sexist. She is amazing.
What a classic !!!! This group never really was popular in the UK, except for the song "I Touch Myself" in 1991, which wasn't that great in my opinion, but this song playing "Boys in Town" is brilliant !!!!!
One of the best rock and roll bands to ever come outta the land down under,Chrissy your a class act and legend to me,i really wish you well sweetie, your the best.
@kenrick4562 some sort of code - but not fowl and no cow - one of the first and best Oz has ever served up - a rock chick that recognised and realised her talent and musically still holds her own 30 years later and will for who knows - the end of time!

But in "My Opinion" Chrissy bests them all. Her looks, her drive, her emotion and passion for the music and what she put into it. Chrissy is A1A
She's been through so much & is a gorgeous, strong, superbly talented woman. I was lucky enough to see the Divinyls live numerous times growing up in Sydney. Chrissy was definitely one of my role models as a teenage gal. I still LOVE them.
i remember the first time i saw this on MTV. i never heard of the Divinyls. so "boys in town" comes on, with warning to brace oneself - well, several minutes later i picked myself up off the floor and declared eternal love for this strange tawney-haired lady.
"too much too young" indeed, but its never enough. best wishes and prayers for Christina.
@dabble778 Thats never been in doubt has it? It'd take someone very very special to unseat her thats for sure. She has burned her name deep into the fabric of aussie rock and it's fans, she'll be the greatest for a very long time to come. :)
So much great music from down under...INXS, MIdnight Oil, Hoodoo Gurus, Men at work, Crowded House, Ice House, Flash and the Pan, The Sharp etc etc...Dunno what it is, but australian music has a special sound...I'm saying that as a Dane...can't say what it is, but there's definitely something special about aussie music.
@Madsennullo thanx for the comment... we (Aussies) had been speculating this for many years, but major international notice (cult, critical, underground, minor success doesn't seem to count) didn't seem to share the same view or appreciation for that 'sound'. Hmm... personally, I would have locked The Sharp in a wooden box and thrown it into the sea.
@Madsennullo Yeah it was very represenative of the Aussie culture back in the 70's and 80's. Hard drinking, hard fighting and hard Pub Rock music was a standard night of entertainment back then. Unfortunatley American fascist Rap Hip Hop, R&B MTV culture has infected all the world including us so the cultural chain has been broken and the younger generations have been USA politically corrected to the point they all have a female sooky bitch consciensiousness. All the young guys seem like fags.
@450hp202turbo Yeah, unfortunately its the truth. I know most of the young guys im talking about arn't Gay, but they sure are soft and weak and hang around with girls AS FRIENDS but havnt got the a skills or confidence to hit chick up! Its sad when males dont no how to BE male. Thanks a lot feminazi's! for producing the first generation of boys without balls! No wonder so many are turning Gay today. They may as well finish the job, go get the chop and buy some bolt ons and become a tranni!
I love how the video looks so timeless (apart from the grainy film of course)- well the outfits anyway. The drummer looks like a truckie from the late 70s, the rhythm guitarist's jacket and tie is from the 60s, Mark's jumper is at least 14 years ahead of its time, and the St. Trinian's schoolgirl outfit- well...what I mean is- there's nothing about this that shows it's stuck in the 1980s! well apart from the light saber mic stand! haha. nah this is awesome, this video still beats the later ones.
Love The Divinyls, Happy Australia Day.

@nzoz1981
She's been through so much & is a gorgeous, strong, superbly talented woman. I was lucky enough to see the Divinyls live numerous times growing up in Sydney. Chrissy was definitely one of my role models as a teenage gal. I still LOVE them.
Get well Chrissy!

NO doubt.. number 1 Rock Chick of Australia.. maybe even the world
sunkissedboi 1 year ago
i remember the first time i saw this on MTV. i never heard of the Divinyls. so "boys in town" comes on, with warning to brace oneself - well, several minutes later i picked myself up off the floor and declared eternal love for this strange tawney-haired lady.
"too much too young" indeed, but its never enough. best wishes and prayers for Christina.

Madsennullo 1 year ago 10
@Madsennullo thanx for the comment... we (Aussies) had been speculating this for many years, but major international notice (cult, critical, underground, minor success doesn't seem to count) didn't seem to share the same view or appreciation for that 'sound'. Hmm... personally, I would have locked The Sharp in a wooden box and thrown it into the sea.
nzoz1981 1 year ago
@nzoz1981 Yeah...The Sharp did indeed suck now that I think of it :-)

@Madsennullo Crowded House is from New Zealand. They're not Aussies.

@boltonox oh you hit the nail so on the head with that comment .
450hp202turbo 1 year ago
