  • D'aw I wish I saw Liam perform when he was little! He's so adorable!

  • ANN EMERY is fantastic! Nobody plays grandma likes her. it brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this act, and I have seem many other ones.

So hurry up and get to see her on stage again as ANN EMERY is back to The West End playing Billy's grandma.

  • @tozinim We saw here last week for the seccond time!! She is wonderful!!!

  • Is that Liam Mower playing Billy

  • LOL :D

  • Who sensored the video? What a beautiful song - why blank (not even bleep) out the lyrics?

  • love it

  • oh Liam what a star!

  • i wached a show some frieds were in at teh regent theater in hanly stoke, and they had thsi scene beautifull! they had grnadma as a young girl liek you were in her mind wilst the ol done was there too then she dnaced with her husband old :') was so sad and beautifuly done

  • This is fucking amazing. Watched an amateur version of the musical last night and it was brilliant. First time i'd ever seen it. Brilliant.

  • I saw this in London when it first came out - but forgot about this scene until now. It is stunning - it really is. Thanks for sharing - you made my day.

  • Seeing the pure happiness in them at the end makes me happy, Liam is so cute<3

  • FAVOURITE BROADWAY ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!!

  • FAVOURITE MUSICAL

  • The Brilliant Ann Emery.........

  • I do have to agree with what many people have said, the way the Broadway production is staged (especially as far as grandma's song goes) is far superior.

  • Look of pure JOY at the end: priceless!!!!!

  • I find it interesting the different actor's different portrayals of this story. I really like the different styles of acting and even the slightly different lines and actions. I love that new actors can come in to a story already told so well and make it their own and make a new experience for new audiences.

  • 6 people all got the finger

  • u six people who dislike this vid have something wrong with them

  • idk where this is, but in my opinion, the Broadway production was so much better! The lights and setting made everything seem dream-like- you felt like you were actually there. The way the lights are here makes it more difficult to believe the shift from "real life" to reminiscing.

  • @SoccerLoverJay this was on a TV show called The Sound Of Musicals. They were guest performers and in the stage show it is made much more dream-like, they were obviously limited with the set. Still the performance is stunning

  • Ann Emery is truly brilliant. She adds real character and humour to the role, which she has made her own, and the show will just not be the same now she has left.

An amazing lady and a true star!

  • oooh, I think this is Ann Emery! wait, "sod" is a curse word? everything after "I'd had give them all the finger" is my fave, go grammy!!

  • i would recomend everyone to see this it is so good =D

  • This song is both happy and sad at the same time...

  • I <3 Liam Mower!

  • that boy is gorgeous! he is adorable!

  • he was a complete.....bastard! lmfao!

  • lol the grandma was my fav character

  • when she said he was a bastard I almost fell out of my seat laughing it was so funny

  • if i was her grandchild, i'd be very proud to have her as my granny.

  • This is awesome. This is not really me.

  • this crowd is really bad...when she sang "and i'd give him the finger" the whole audience bursted out laughing...this crowd? nothing

  • were duin this play at our skewl now! :-D x x x

  • Ah, I love this song! I guess because of the way that Grandma tells Billy about life with Granddad. ^.^ "And I never...would be sober." = <3 I love the sweet way that Billy kisses her hand at the end, too! ^.^

  • Who's Billy in this clip?

  • It's Liam Mower

  • YAY! Thank god it's on youtube... thank you! this is very helpful, since I need to play grandma at school... I have to act like 5 times my age, but this part is awesome!

  • Ann Emery has been in show business a long time. She was/is a tap dancer and dance coach, as well as an actor, which would explain her wonderful physical movement, unlike Carole Shelly in the NYC production. This number was a wonderful high point in the show for me, too. It's thirlling!

  • Where was this performed?

  • i love this song its soo funny thnx for postin xX

  • Hhaa!. love this song!! AMAZING MUSICAL!.. best one i`ve seen expecialy in broadway!

  • now seen this show 3 times - different billy everytime but always same gran - legend!

  • one of the musicals you have to see before you die :)

    x

  • And go dancing !! And not give a sh*t !!! Spin around and reel ! And love every bit ... Just love this part. Such energy and talent that one wouldn't suspect in an old lady. Impressive

  • i think this is the best bit in the whole musical...

i love how she transforms for that song, made a very big impression on me i must admit

  • @maxschmeling666 I loved this part as well saw it last year great performance.

  • @maxschmeling666 on the broadway show that i saw, the grandma stuck her middle finger at the audience whe she sang, "and i always given him the FINGER!" IT was very funny!

  • @doipark yeah I also saw the show in broadway and she did the same thing, The whole musical is just a masterpiece. Cheers

  • OMG! This is just wonderful. Great perfomance, great older Lady. Just WOW!

  • He sounds like the sheperd in Heidi when he talks! Hehe this is funny AND I AM AN American!!!

  • Where was this? Why is the stage like this?

  • it was in london and the stage is like this because its a musical.

  • I know it's a musical! Haha, and I know it was in London.

The London West End stage set was supposed to be the same as the one in New York on Broadway . . but this set is totally different. I think this is a performance of the songs from the song but not the actual show itself somewhere other than the West End stage, since they bow at the end of the song and the don't do that in the actual show.

Does anyone know what this performance was for?

  • looks like it's a tv-show or sth. like that - it's not in the musical-theatre!

  • Someone may correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe this was a performance in the TV programme called "the shound of musicals", it was a show which celebrated the best musical hits, and i think it starred some of the london casts. I may be wrong but this is what i think it right.

  • I dunno

  • It is in London with the real cast, but it was not on the victoria theater stage... it was just on a television show that showcases different acts.

  • no i think they just changed it in america

like so its diffrent to the original british version.

  • No, this was on a tv program I found out.

I know that the british set is identical to the american one I've seen it on both.

  • they preformed somewhere else for a short while over in london can't remember where though

  • It was West End musicals all performing together. So they used one stage! x

  • thats the fantastic Ann Emery, the sister of the comedian Dick Emery. Ann's a ledgend and fantastic person ! x

  • this actress is the perfect Grandma! i love this song

  • I saw the show in early May on Broadway with Trent Kowolick. What a show! I just have to make sure that I don't buy tickets after drinking too much. In this song, "my heart was aglow" was changed to "I was his Marilyn Monroe."

  • is there any more clips?

  • whats this from?.. haa i know its billy elliot!.. haha. duhh.. but what show did they perform on ?..x

  • It's a show called the sound of musicals with John Barrowman, Ruthie Hanshaw, Carrie and David Grant, John Lee and Mica Paris,

They had a few guest stars like Leon Cooke, Jill Halfpenny, Aled Jones and Les Dennis

  • Sound of Musicals a show that was on BBC i think

  • "I got you a pasty from the co-op." haha

  • What does that mean???

  • Uhmm.. well the co-op is like a small supermarket and a pasty is like a baked, savoury thing.. you should google it :)

  • OMG thats little Liam Mower from the West End Billy's!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i saw Billy Elliot on Broadway last month and it was UNBELIEVABLE!!! and this song was phenomenal and made me cry.

  • when i went to go see this in london

this song nearly made me cry

    it was soo upsetting

  • "He was a complete..." Hopefull, lovely key..."Bastard" LOOOL

  • One of Elton's best songs!

  • She's amazing !

  • Who is it? Does anyone know the actress?

  • i went to see this last week, tanner played billy it was brilliant!!!!!!!!!i'd reccomend any1 whose lukin 4 a show 2 go 2 this is it!!! bit more expensive than the other shows but it was worth it,

  • I had tanner too when i went and he was amazing

  • I saw Tanner aswell... He should get more credit for how talented he is!

  • i went to see it in October.. he was amazing!!!

  • I love this song and the choreography, but it looks better on stage, with lights and set. But still, awesome performance!!!

  • is Bastard that bad to blant it? :P yhh

  • Ann Emery is one of the most extraordinary people I've ever seen performing. Especially in the theatre - she's magnetic!

    "Where's me pasty!" *much sniggering*

  • wow can you get the show on DVD?

  • I dont think you can. I saw it in London last week and I can't get the songs out of my head. You should really go see it if you havn't. I have heard the London show on the west end is better than the broadway show. Its probably just because the people in the USA don't understand the british humor.

  • i don't understand how the americans will be able to understand the british humour either. no discrimination to the americans, i find their humour funny. but in their version do they have 'merry christmas maggie thatcher' because they can't exactly relate to it because it didn't really effect them and they probably won't understand it and probably won't understand the geordie accents.

  • The show was changed a bit for Broadway in New York. The Geordie accent is toned down, and some of the words Americans wouldn't be familar with are changed. Also, There's a thing in the program that explains About Margaret Thatcher and The Miners Strike, so the audience is decently informed, hoping that they read the program before the show started, haha.

  • He was a complete... bastard!

    Classic!

  • she's so wonderful!!

  • this is my fav song. she is amzing singing this.

  • I saw Liam Mower twice in the lead role and its the best musical I've ever seen!!

  • Watched this in London last year. It was excellent!

  • i <3 billy elliot and everything to do with elton john eg the lion king billy elliot the musical i wish i could go see it soooooo much

  • Saw Billy in New York with the incredible Carole Shelley's showstopping performance.

  • Yay! Liam Mower! I love how sweet and doddery the grandma is and then she starts blasting out the curses! So inappropriate... but so funny!

  • i prefer the grandma fro the melbourne show

  • Australian cast*

    Lola Nixon...

The one in this version is the original

  • I haven't read the previous comments but I want to say thank you for posting this. The actress (who's name I don't know) playing grandma is truly perfect. Her talent fills th stage . wow.......

and why aren't we adult enough to hear the word shit???

  • Only In Musical Theatre Could There Be A Situation Like This But I Love It. I Think Grandma (Apart From Billy) Has To Be The Best Character In The Show With Her Pasties From Co Op!

  • I know that this is Billy Elliot the Musical, but does anyone know where this recording is from? It's obviously TV or something because of the camera work. If there's more to it, I'd like to see it. There aren't many videos with Liam Mower other than Electricity.

  • It was a BBC programme called 'The Sound of Musicals,' broadcast in the UK in 2006. It featured highlights of various musicals. There was also a performance of the song 'Electricity' on the programme, with Liam again as Billy, and Tim Healy (the original Dad). If you search youtube you can find this also.
