My only fairly trivial quibble with this argument is that you seem to separate superstition and religion when religion is simply superstition, mass franchised for the benefit of a few and the subjugation and exploitation of the many. Religion aka superstition should be treated with derision not respect and accorded the same status as cannibalism, wife beating and slavery. Of course, it may be true that religion is necessary to control the stupid but that is a separate issue.

The only thing I've seen before this that is as well written is ironically a Christian book rebuking religion as a whole. I'm Christian myself, but wouldn't consider myself religious. I find it odd that Christianity has become a religion, considering it's roots were so anti-religious, oh well.

no it shouldnt, be careful saying things like that. if you open up public education to this, you invite the oposing view. the fact is short of a philosophy class, things like this have as much place as religion. School should teach information, as well as the ability to absorb, interpret and assess it's credibilty. you can't cross that line to outright instilling ideas, even if they are the obviosly superior ideas. It's up to people to use the skills gained in school to find out for themselves

Wow, superb and profound viewing! I think people believe because it provides them with comfort. Its hard to admit that you're going to die and rot in the ground. Having to live out one's life, knowing that thou has an expiry date is very scary. The same applies with the our society's fascination with ghosts. The irony is that while attemting to connect to the sacred realm- and its life-affirming properties- we've massacred millions in its name.

You're right. I did some more research and found that I misread the info. The Yellowstone Caldera has erupted explosively on a cycle of about 600,000 years. The last eruption, however, was 70,000 years ago, but was mainly lava-flow related, not explosive.

My grandfather was a minister, my father still goes to the same church (and play the pipe organ), I went to a Christian school and had religious education every week (along with church services), my wife goes to church every Sunday. The thing is, even as I type this, people are dying because of religion. Is either religion supported by science? No. Has God himself distroyed either side himself rather than relying on humans to do his killing? No. Has he done anything to stop the war? No.

You telling me to abstain from being harsh is ironic when you've just called me a slave reality and materialism, and proof of totalitarian control. I can't blindly obey. It's wrong; it goes against everything that humanity has done in the way of progress. Humankind's progress comes out of inquisitiveness, free thought, wondering "what if...?", not submitting to an unseen higher power who may or may not exist.

I agree with almost everything said in this series of videos. I think, however, that they would most likely make a relieous person angry instead of making them seriously challenge their beliefs. It seems to almost say "we're right and you're dumb"... That's what they do, we shouldn't also. However you explain many points I've been trying to make for years very well.
