With Action Replay DSi, I loved messing around with temporary HG files. I'd making every move a OHKO, so whenever people would try and show me how to catch Pokémon, they would knock it out. Still acted like they caught it, though. Another favourite is messing with the Wild Pokémon Modifier, so that somehow they'd find themselves trying to show me how to catch a GIRATINA. No Pokémon except for the glitch _ _ _ _? OHKO Sruggle? Infinite health so it can survive Struggle and beat Lance? Hell yes.

If I remember correctly, the reason this happened is because the game needs to display "Old Man" instead of your name, for that one battle, so it stores your name in the spot where normally there is a "pokemon identifier" (the numbers of all the pokemon you can meet in a certain area). And when you had it fight lance, something with that pokemon identifier spot (where your name was stored) got overridden.

The reason that it wont change your name back is because your name is now OLD MAN. So when you go back to him, it simply stores your name ( OLD MAN ), replaces it with his name ( OLD MAN ) temporarily, and then gives you back your name ( OLD MAN ). The other name was lost.

When the game shows "OLD MAN"'s name, it puts your name into the pokemon data slot, so the hex codes in your name show up wherever there is grass, but no pokemon data, which is why the Missingno. glitch works. If Lance was brought in instead of the Weedle, maybe it stuck Lance's name into the pokemon data slot and overwrote your name, then the pokemon data was reset (not sure about that, might after a trainer battle) and the game took the nearest name, OLD MAN

idk wut happened with the bike... but the reason the name stays the same is probably because it overwrites your old name (like its supposed to and it saves your name somewhere else) then he doesn't catch a weedle so it doesn't revert

then your new name is old man.... and when the old man tries to catch the weedle your name OLD MAN name becomes OLD MAN (and the prev. name OLD MAN gets saved somewhere else) then the weedle is caught and the OLD MAN (that guy) name becomes OLD MAN

what happens, this is also why missingno. works, is because early on they made the prgramming change so that cubone->marowak->kangaskahn, but they changed their minds, and to avoid the painstaking process of changing this, saved the old programing to a new slot. one without a number. your name is also saved elsewhere except when you encounter the old man, because the game must save your name in that same numberless slot in order to change it to the old man. the result: brick shatting

The old man has 50 Pokéballs in his first slot, but the OLD MAN battle system isn't defined for when a Pokéball fails, so it takes away all of his Pokéballs as if he had one and gives the P.A message.

You probably had one Bicycle in the first slot, but since the OLD MAN lost all his Pokéballs (which were in the first slot) you also lost one Bicycle.
