Part of the freedom of speech is the freedom to potentially offend others. I find the cartoon in bad taste, but I think the freedom of the press & the freedom of speech are much more important in the long run. People are free to boycott, protest, etc. The people are exercising their rights to disagree with the content of the NY Post & the Post may pay a financial price for exercising their freedom to print whatever they wish. But regardless, it's a 1st Amendment issue.

Just search George Bush monkey on youtube for starters. There were many more cartoon images on tv depicting W as a monkey, because he looks like one, has the brain of one, and is one. The NYPost cartoon, however, does not depict Obama as a monkey. As for Howard Cosell, it's sad that he was fired because he had said the same thing about small quick running backs of all colors. Part of the freedom of speech is the freedom to potentially offend others. I find the cartoon in bad taste, but I think the freedom of the press & the freedom of speech are much more important in the long run. People are free to boycott, protest, etc. The people are exercising their rights to disagree with the content of the NY Post & the Post may pay a financial price for exercising their freedom to print whatever they wish. But regardless, it's a 1st Amendment issue.
