A game that never loses its appeal. But I have to say that the funniest and craziest part of it is Battle Mode. Things may get VERY complicated when you're attempting to drop bombs and kill your friends.
i have the dos and the amiga version (emulated) on of this game and i play both but i do love the sound quailty of the amiga compared to the dos version even tho when playing the dos version growing up it was very good even tho it used to make me jump everytime i died. (i had me a soundblaster card)
I (Romeo Knight) made that soundtrack for the Amiga version back in the days, but it doesn't play well in that video, some note commands aren't interpreted right
Sir, I salute you! I listened to that end soundtrack so many times when I was younger - I loved it so much I can still remember the last level code UAHFTHEP. It must be like more than 10 years since I last heard it and it's still great.
Eike, I hold you in such high regard you can't even imagine ;) Taught myself the first baby steps in tracking by "remixing" cream of the earth and can't even count the hours of listening to the end tune of dynablaster.. Too amazing for words in nineteen ninety bloody one =) Res+++
@Sprachlaboraudio Were they rushed? Although the instruments sound like an improvement over the PC-Engine, the tunes aren't as well done. The Amiga has an amazing soundchip. What stopped you making music of the quality of Turrican2 or Stardust?
@Sprachlaboraudio Awww thats a shame, though to say that the Amiga's amazing soundchip is a myth is stretching it a bit far. The thing is, you shouldn't have been limited to three channels. Its just that YOU were limited to three channels, and it sounds like a technical decision. Its not the soundchip at fault. Factor 5 musix system managed 8 simultaneous channels + effects that made their lower quality samples sound higher quality than the ones that you had to use. Ooh and don't forget low pass
@nicholasthetaylor : No, I don't think it's stretching far, the PAULA had no synthesis capabilities like the SID for example. It wasn't even stereo how it was said all the time. It got 4 channels hardwired to 2 outputs- that actually makes a 2 channel stereo system. However, the 8 channel stuff was just clever programming, 2 channels were rendered two one hardware channel in realtime thus the sample rate was halfed in the end. It lost very much high end, IMO the pure sound quality was worse.
@Sprachlaboraudio Fair enough, although sound sythesis is possible outside of the soundchip. It would have certainly impacted the performance of the game depending on the complexity of the effects. But, bomberman - as good a game as it is - is not a CPU intensive title if programmed intelligently. The music of the PC Engine and (especially) the later SNES versions were sublime. I don't think it was too much to expect something special from the music considering these circumstances
@nicholasthetaylor Except that the music has never been a major selling point of Bomberman. It was just there. I mean, those things are decided from an economical point of view; I think it was much more important to deliver the 5 player adapter with the game instead of "the most sophisticated sound system on Amiga at that time."
@Sprachlaboraudio Sure, five players is important, but so is the music. The music might just be there in the Amiga version, but in the PC Engine and SNES versions, the music contributes significantly to the overall experience. The SNES version managed to support five players and boast exceptional music. When budget begins to dictate the quality of a game, then you know that you're gonna end up with an inferior product.
@nicholasthetaylor I don't know your background or why you're on a mission to prove that the Amiga version of Bomberman failed to be the best Bomberman at that time (what it actually was) cos of music flaws or whatever. I'd suggest you just jump to 1:34:34 and be happy. (Don't forget to "mono" the signal at your amp) Apart from that you're addressing the wrong person here, sorry. Maybe you wanna contact Michael Kleps and complain here: refx dot com
@Sprachlaboraudio Don't get me wrong, because I love the Amiga. The game could have been a lot better though. My beef is that if only the developers had gone the extra mile like the developers of the SNES version had done, then the Amiga would have been able to hold its ground when the SNES came along. There's the streetfighter 2 port too. Its not as if the Amiga didn't have the chance, it just didn't make the best of the opportunities that it had
@nicholasthetaylor By the way. I think its important to mention that I think that your music was still really good and is fun to listen to. I'm not slamming the Amiga version. I just like to discuss how it could have been improved. I think its a real shame that there wasn't an update to Dynablaster - I actually quite like the name Dynablaster too. I'm surprised that Hudson didn't keep it for future releases
My cousin once did what we call "The Inferno" he was invincible (he picked up the invincibility jacket) and he placed a bomb and let it explode. Being in the midst of the flames he placed a new one which then also exploded.
From then on he ran through the whole level as an exploding "flaming inferno".
I've completed the entire game in just 1:09:11--but I have to admit that this player is great...I am nevewr arrived with 9 lifes at that point of the game (I think it is 7-4).... W Dyna Blaster..
Its amazing how these sounds and images are forever etched into my memory, even though I haven't seen them in years. If I was 80, they would probably still seem as familiar
Hey, Kuro didn't yell "GO!" when the final battle started.... and he didn't fly up into the air all burnt when you defeated him, either.... Must've been lost in the port somehow....
For some reason, the computer versions (PC, Amiga and Atari ST) were renamed Dyna Blaster but it was never clear why. In fact, when a couple of Amiga magazines here in the UK reviewed it shortly before release, they reviewed it as "Bomberman/Dyna Blaster" because it seemed that the publisher hadn't decided on which name to go with, and the screenshot of the title screen in one magazine displayed "Bomberman".
They had to change the name after the police department of an english city (Glasgow, perhaps) raised some concerns over the name "Bomberman", mostly because of the IRA attacks.
I remember this. I spent countless hours playing it. Beat it a few times. It got really easy once you got that powerup that lets you detonate the bombs whenever you want.

@nicholasthetaylor
1. As already stated that the emulated routine does not play well.
2. I had to stick with 3 channels only (one was reserved for SFX)
3. Due to memory restrictions I had to use a very limited sample set.
4. AMIGAs "amazing soundchip" is a myth. It plays samples. Period.
5. Ever listened to the end credits tune? Voila.

Try to bomb the exit or power up.:-) Lot of points if you survive.xD
And the level bonus (cca 100 000 points) : if you are very lucky and bomb the whole "walls" in the level and the last one is exit.
