Om man, this song floods my 73 year old brain with so many great memories. This was one of two song they would play at this teen club where we would go dancing.I can still, after all these years, close my eyes and feel the magic.
i am so happy to hear thedonpiccolo 3 months ago reunited after all those years you to go i belive you have many children and grandchildren together saw a man i went to high school with and i had not seen him in 20 plus years and i have been married to him fo4 13 years and been with him for 16 he is the love of my life
I'm finally saying this to my teenage love of 55 years ago. We just reunited after not being with each other all this time, and are at last together, with more love than we ever new existed.
Oh, yes, this is one of the best love songs. This song will be played for many, many years to come. It is so well-done and the lyrics are perfect that this song will speak to lovers everywhere forever. This will endure the passage of time because it speaks to the universal, never-ending desire for love. I cannot thank you enough for this one. It is just sooooo perfect.
NYC in the 50's. Alan Freed's 1010 WINS rock & roll show. This song became his signature good night song each evening. Another time and another era that sometimes seems like yesterday.
This Is my grandmoms and grandpas favorite song but he passed away but we still keep him in our prayers and thoughts and this is a song when he was in the army he wrote letters and he signe it good night my love well I love this song to I LOVE IT!!!
What a commanding voice to compliment such beautiful lyrics. This is an all-time favorite song of mine. It is just sooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooooooooooood. Thak you so much for this post.
God I missed this song and had a hard time finding this version i heard on the radio growing up! I sang this to all six of my children, along with others, this was the one I started with cause I didn't like Rock a bye baby....Lol
Man, this gives me great memories - Summer of 1981, Saturday night oldies all request, Chicago 101.9 FM - they would play this song just before 12am Sunday which I would listen to from 10pm to about 2am. Oh by the way, I am 47 years old. Thanks for the music!!!!!
God, I remember this song-they use to play it at the end of the night at the Boys Club in Edgartown on MV, while dancing with Michael!! Bitter sweet memories!
This is the ultimate closing song: whether it be for a dance, party, live show or to end every decent radio DJ's show. Nothing can beat the late, great Jesse Belvin.
I grew up in Pennsylvania...it was also the last song, at our dances...just a BEAUTIFUL song...this is my favorite version...very romantic...it beats Rap, anyday...
Its a shame the so called"oldies stations" are now playing 70s and 80s music and we dont get to hear great stuff like this anymore not unless you go on the web or niche shows.Thank God we have the technology to keep this sound alive.
Many covers of this song and none better than the original, I am not sure if he and his wife, a noted lyricist put the entire package together including the arrangement. It does not matter try as so many have no one can sing Jessie’s song better than Jessie himself, yes I remember the radio stations of the 60,s playing this tune that already been out for a number of years and you can still hear it today, it won’t go away, it’s a classic
@jor99912 - I or someone as yourself would have to devote some research time but as far as I know this was an original composition of Jessie and his wife, and as noted his wife had gained some acclaim on her own as a lyricist so without the research as far as I know BTW U mention top talent in "Sassy Sarah "and "Dinah" I do think Jessie recorded a number of "standards" but this was not of those cuts - Thanks
A classic, beautiful ballad from a singer that was taken way before his time. What a voice, and this song will stand the test of time and be played long after even our days are over.
My Dearest, I know you just went home after spending a wonderful weekend with me in LA, but I miss you so much already and are counting the days until we see each other again!!! Last night I had an unforgettable time at your 45th high school reunion; it brought me so many great memories of the times we spent @ Manual Arts & especially our walks to the Coliseum afterwards. I'm forever grateful for finding you after all these years, and are looking forward to our becoming Mr. & Mrs. Armando Torres
Apparently lots of stations ended their broadcast with this song....I remember this from when I was a little girl...it reminds me of my parents, may they rest in peace. It's a warm memory that I'll always cherish.....people just don't make music like this anymore.
I love this song! My local oldies show used to play this as the last song of the night. Jesse had a great voice. I had originally thought it was recorded in 1959, but later found out it was '56. Thanks for posting!
Not only is this a great record from a good singer but it was used as the last dance of the evening at most record Hops. This slow dance ended the dance but maybe it started many romances after. You had to live it to appreciate it! Ron
@essexlph: I hope that those days were as good for you as they were for me. We were young and most of life was ahead of us. How things have changed and not necessarily for the better. Thanks my friend. Ron
Goodnight My Love is a classic as kids my brothers and I was reminded my our Dad that Jessie Belvin was kin on our Dad side of the family. Jessie was a very talented young man and had lost his life at a young age, his legacy still lives on...
As a young teen every Friday night was a dance on Revere Beach called The Seaside, and this was always the last song of the night. This has to be the best version of this song. He has a voice that just melts your heart
Jessie Bevin DOES sound a bit like Nat King Cole. Had he lived, he would have been the next NKC. Beautiful smooth voice, talented songwriter, like so many others before and after him, he left us way too soon. Totally love this song, always have since 7 years of age. How I miss my 78 that shattered in the 1994 Northridge earthquake!
This was the last song they played at our high school 'record hops' on Friday nights. A lot of good memories. Good music, good friends, $.05 Cokes ! God how I miss it all now. That's for posting.

Such a smoooooooooothe voice and song. It is too beautiful for words. There was in older woman in a hoagie shop and while we were waiting for our food, this song came on. You can tell that it took her somehwhere. She swyed and snag the eintire song, and shared with me about the era when this was released. I have loved it ever since, and each time I hear it, I am reminded of a stranger who made me smile for a moment in time.

"Earth Angel" was recorded by The Penguins, and became one of the first R&B singles to cross over onto the pop charts selling millions in 1954.
In 1956, he signed a contract with Modern Records, but also continued to sing for other labels under different names. His biggest hit was "Goodnight My Love", reached #7 on the R&B chart. The piano on the session was reportedly played by the 11 year old Barry White.
So was I; (55) BUT you should make the best of it. Your appreciation for this music says you are a romantic, and for that my friend, there is not time line. Be well and enjoy it!!!
Barry White was 11 years old and played Piano on this track before this man and his wife/manager was tragically killed in auto crash in a possible hate crime after performing at 1st interacial audience in Little Rock Ak with Jackie Wilson Sam Cooke & Marv Johnson very tragic story his album Mr Easy came out after their death after just being signed by RCA
One of a kind Jesse Belvin is a Los Angeles product and was the godfather of doop era in Los Angeles in the 50's. He wrote or co wrote Earth Angel by the Penguines.
Smooth as silk. what a voice. somewhere in subconcious or past life growing up in southern cal i remember hearing this song again and again. or was it just wolfman jack playing this record on the mighty 690, at 3 am putting me to sleep when i was 4 years old. either way classic classic song
@dnliten1 awww, The Wolfman! I remember trying to tune in to his show late at night. I grew up in a small mountain town in Northern Calli, and reception was not that good! LOL What wonderful memories! This version is the one that is most popular I think. So Pretty!
wow what a fantastic voice , i can,t stop listening to this song , bring back the 50,s 60,s and 70,s im a shame to say i have never heard this artist until now , but i love it , thanks to who posted it
This song will always remind me of DaBoogieman signing off every night at KOOL105. This was a few years ago before they turned their back on the oldies format and sadly, eventually pushed him out the door, too.
In the Pittsburgh metro area, I always wrapped up dances up with this one. Nice message. Beautiful song. Shortly after Jesse died he was already being referred to as "the late great Jesse Belvin".
One of the greatest songs ever recorded by one of the greatest singers that has ever lived. This song only gets better with age. It is absolutely beautiful.
my parents used to dance to this in the livingroom, we(THE KIDS) would dance around with them. Wonderful memories. Thank you Knight for sharing this great song!!!!!
Ladies and Gents: I grew up on this music and at CYO dances or other types, this song would always be the last song of the night. Those were the most wonderful days ever for music, lovers, and just great memories!....Elaine Harrington....where are you tonight !!!!
He and his wife Jo Ann passed away in a car accident after a performance, it is widely believed the car was tampered with, however, there is no evidence of the claim.
i grew up on this great song. there was a radio station that signed off with this song evernight at midnight and i would go to sleep on this song. Beautiful.
Om man, this song floods my 73 year old brain with so many great memories. This was one of two song they would play at this teen club where we would go dancing.I can still, after all these years, close my eyes and feel the magic.

"I" have just recently reunited with "the love of my life", Janice, from 40 years ago.
We 'went together' for 3+ years from 1968 to 1971, during high school, and due to very unusual circumstances, we were separated with no closure.
NOW, thanks to Facebook and my never-ending love for her, I 'found' her just this last year.
We plan on spending the rest of our lives together, in TRUE love !!!!!!!

Great song. There were three artists that defined southern Calif. R&B, Jesse Belvin, Richard Berry & Johnny Otis. Rock on.

This song will always remind me of DaBoogieman signing off every night at KOOL105. This was a few years ago before they turned their back on the oldies format and sadly, eventually pushed him out the door, too.
Denver's radio scene has not been the same since.
Are you out there Boogie? We miss you! E

He and his wife Jo Ann passed away in a car accident after a performance, it is widely believed the car was tampered with, however, there is no evidence of the claim.
